Trying to Print Scaled Job on Half-Sized Paper on HP2605dtn

I'm trying to print a document to fit into a half sized binder (think Franklin Planner size, but not really a Franklin Planner).  I took 8.5 x 11 paper to a print shop and they chopped it in half and three-hold drilled it.
My problem is that I can't get the 2605 to print properly on that paper.  I created a custom size paper (5.5 x 8.5) and I've tried both Scale-to-Fit and Scale 50%. but I only get a portion of the page printed (it's in the original size, but only showing part of the page--as if I trimmed the original 8.5 x 11 paper after it printed).
Does anyone know the settings to use to accomplish what I need (oh, and I'm printing duplex as well)?
Many thanks.

  • How to print pdf on a legal sized paper

I can't seem to print pdf files on legal sized paper properly. They always shrink it down. I have tried going to "paper handling" and clicking "scale to fit paper size" to US Legal.
On Copies and Pages I have to click "Fit to Printable Area" otherwise the document gets cut because the printable area is only 8 x 11.
I guess what I'm trying to say is how do I increase the printable area?

    Hi amanyeah,
Is it Legal size to start with?
If it is not, then you'll need to Save as..., like a tiff or jpeg & resize it to 8.5"*14" in say GraphicConverter...

Did you go to Page Setup and switch the Paper size to Legal?

  • PIXMA MG2120 trying to print EVERY job in color

So after a BUNCH of testing and realigning, I've found that the printer is trying to print using color. When I keep greyscale selected and even changed cartridge use to "Black Only" in the driver settings. That's when I try to print and it says "Printer will use color cartridge for this specific job." Even when the picture itself is black and white. Even when I try to print normally, nothing shows up...which LEAD me to believe it keeps trying to print in color...which is empty by the way. Not wasting an extra 30 bucks on color I'm never even going to use. Can anyone help?

    Hi technofreak,
Although you have the printer set to print in grayscale mode, and the black only ink cartridge setting selected, if you use the duplex (double-sided) printing option, or select a paper type other than PLAIN PAPER (such as a photo paper, envelopes or labels) in the printer driver, the color ink cartridge will be used to produce the black text on the page, even if the black ink cartridge is selected.  In addition, some web pages and PDF files have coding embedded in them that will constitute the use of the color ink to produce the text on the printout, even if the black only option is selected.  In these cases, we cannot force the printer to print using only the black ink cartrdige in the unit.

  • F2480 printing on half of paper only.

I print labels from Ebay, which pop up upon selecting the option on Paypals site. With my older F335, I just hit print and it would print the label on half the paper, and the receipt on the other half. Now with the F2480, it prints it all in small print and only on half of the 8 1/2" x 11" paper. What do I do to enlarge the print area so the labels are not so small.

Try this create a group and select the group option - repeat group header on each page. Place all your info in the group header. then use a formatting formula to suppress the group header on odd number pages in the section expert. You will also have to check new page after and have a formula that will do that on even number pages.
    The formatting formulas would be
    Odd page numbers
    remainder(pagenumber,2) = 1 //used in suppress
    Even page numbers
    remainder(pagenumber,2) = 0//used in new page after
    give it a try

  • Reader 10.1.2 prints half-sized

I am trying to print .pdf documents from Reader 10.1.2 on a Windows 7 machine.
The documents are 8.5" x 11", and I am printing to 8.5" x 11" paper. I have tried setting the Size option to both Fit and Actual Size. The Page Setup and printer Properties both are set correctly. The preview shows the proper size & dimensions. But the printed page is reduced to half-size and shifted to one side of the page, as if set to booklet print. Printing multi-page documents, odd-numbered pages print on the top half of the page, while even-numbered pages print on the bottom half. Multiple Landscape-oriented pages print 2-up on a single page.
Other applications (MS Office, web pages, etc.) print normally: letter-sized docs print letter-sized. Why is Reader not printing properly?

    Dear user,
If your print option is coming as disabled/gray, it implies your file is either secured/password protected or you don't have print rights over it.
Check with other pdfs, I am sure that they will print fine.
Hope you get my point and this will solve your problem.
    Thanks

  • Print problem. trying to print a document in Preview, the start of the text prints half way down the page not at the top of the page?

Print problems.  Printing out an email the text starts half way down the page.  I tried taking a picture of the text I wanted to print, tried to print from Preview and have the same problem.  If anyone has any ideas I would really apreciate it. Thanks Penny

One more thing to check:  System Preferences/Print & Scan.  Make sure your printer is set as Default.
I'm using OS X 10.8 and I don't see Page Setup anymore. If you have access to Page Setup, check to see if there are any adjustments to make there.

  • With Half-Sized Frame and SP/LP error, am I getting lower quality?

Seven years ago, I recorded some videos with my Canon ZR miniDV camcorder.  I want to preserve the quality of these videos by archiving them on my Mac.  The read head on this camcorder is broken. So, I'm borrowing my brother's Sony Digital Handycam DCR-PC110 NTSC to play these miniDV video tapes.
When I use iMovie 6 to import, I get this message:
"The camera is sending half-sized frames, which iMovie can’t accept. Check your camera’s record mode (this is the setting that affects recording quality, which determines the total recording time on a tape). The mode must be set to “SP” or “LP.” If that doesn't help, try removing all the cables and batteries from the camera, wait a minute, replace them, and then reset the date, time, and record mode."
The recording mode is already set to "SP". However, I still cannot import. Every time I try to play the video, it shows a fraction of a second of the video and then it stops. If I disconnect the camera from the Mac, I can play the video without a problem. It seems that iMovie 6 will not allow me to play this video.
Does anybody know what the problem is?
With my brother's miniDV tapes, I don't get this problem on his Sony Digital Handycam.
From some research, I read that it might have something to do with playing a PAL recording instead of NTSC.  However, my cameras are NTSC.  I've never (consciously or remember to) use PAL.  iMovie 6 is set to 29.97 bps frame rate, which is supposedly NTSC.
I tried the suggestion from this posting:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/1808010#1808010
    Which is:
    -  I disconnected the camera from the Mac.
    -  Started up iMovie 6.
    -  Started playing my miniDV tape.
    -  Connected the firewire from the camera to the Mac
Now, I can play and import the miniDV video on iMovie 6.  However, I'm curious as to whether iMovie is inputting NTSC and saving into PAL, or vice versa.  Therefore, I'm concerned about the possibility of losing quality.  Would anybody know if I will be losing quality?

"..the last 43 minutes of clips, cannot play well on my Canon camcorder.."
Run through the tapes to see how many total minutes of material you have on these tapes. A miniDV tape records a maximum of 63 mins at Standard Play rate, and up to about 90 mins at LP (Long Play) rate.
If you have more than 63 mins of material on these tapes, then the recording was made at LP rate.
At LP rate, the tape moves at 2/3 the speed of SP, which means that the video tracks recorded on the tape are very narrow. This means that when those tapes are played in a different camcorder the heads may read the tape properly, because there's no margin for error on these very narrow tracks. When replaying an LP tape, the camcorder's heads may not properly align with the recorded track, giving the 'half frame' error you mentioned.
No camera manufacturer guarantees that any LP material will play correctly on any camcorder other than the one on which it was recorded (because of these narrow LP tracks). [Sony created the professional 'DVCAM' speed - one-and-a-half-times normal SP speed, so two-thirds the recording time - to provide -w-i-d-e-r- tracks than normal, and thus ensure that professional DV recordings can be played back and edited on equipment other than the camcorder which was used
    for shooting the material.]
The only solution for LP tapes is to try importing from as many different camcorders as possible till you find one which will do the job. (I had to do exactly the same thing last week, and found that various other Sony 'consumer-grade' camcorders - the material was recorded on a Sony - couldn't 'lock onto' the LP track, but professional or 'prosumer' (more expensive) Canon (XLH1) and Sony (FX1) camcorders could play the old LP material.)
Before trying to play old tapes, whether SP or LP, always wind them fast-forward all the way to the end, then rewind them - at least once - to make sure that the tape layers don't stick together, and to ease the stresses in the tape. You should also do this once a year to every recorded tape, to avoid stresses, pinching, and 'print-through' (seepage of magnetism from one layer of tape to others).
P.S: Have you tried cleaning the 'broken' head on your old Canon? Dip a cotton bud in methylated spirits - or, better still, carbon tetrachloride 'dry cleaning' fluid - and slowly turn the head drum, and wipe up and down it, over and over again ..making sure NOT to catch cotton wool in the sharp narrow gap between each of the (two) heads, which are each halfway round the head (at 180 degrees to each other). Wipe carefully, then examine the cotton bud and see if there are any brown stains on it ..if so, you've cleaned old muck off the head. Repeat with a new cotton bud until there are no more stains on it. Leave the head drum to dry for 10 minutes, playing gentle (half) heat from a hair-dryer on it, but don't melt the plastic camcorder - so that the fluid evaporates and doesn't stick any tape to the head! - then try importing again.
P.P.S: "..It seems that iMovie 6 will not allow me to play this video.." iMovie's tolerance for damaged digital video frames is far tighter than any camcorder's: a camcorder will often replace 'damaged' frames with detail from the undamaged frame before, so doesn't give a clear idea of how damaged the video data may be. If it won't import, it's damaged, possibly through head misalignment, or through a weak or dissipated signal. (Earlier versions, such as iMovie 2.1.2, were more tolerant of 'dodgy' video, and could import material which later versions, e.g; iMHD6, won't allow accept.)

  • Problems printing on custom sized paper.

    Hello all,
I am trying to iron out my problems with printing on custom sized tractor paper (using an impact printer). Every time I print a test page, the printer behaves as if it was loaded with tractor paper that is 11 inches long, rather then the 7 inches that the forms are on.
Before I list my code, let me explain everything that I have done. I am running Windows XP, so I went to the Printers and Faxes folder, clicked File > Server Properties, and created a custom form size (8.5" wide by 7" long with zero margins). Going back to the Printers and Faxes folder, I right clicked on the impact printer and clicked properties. From there I clicked the Device tab and selected my custom form that I had created for the tractor feed section. I then clicked the general tab and clicked the printing preferences. From there I clicked the Paper/Quality tab and selected Tractor Feed for the source. Then I clicked the advance button and selected my custom form for paper size. I also changed the resolution to 360X180.
The printer itself has hardware settings for paper size. I've went through the menu and selected 7 inches for the form length.
Now going to the code, I created the paper object and set it size to 612 for width and 504 for height. I also changed the ImageableArea to the size of the paper (which I think eliminates the margins), and set its orientation to 0, 0. I then set the paper object to the PageFormat, and used drawString to test my settings.
Program compiles fine. When I run it and click the button, I select the correct printer. I also went through the preferences to make sure that all the setting are correct (especially to make sure my custom form is selected.). The closest I can get the string to the corner of the page is 75, 80. On the paper it measures 7/8" from the left, and 1" from the top.
I have tested my custom form settings with word 2007. I was able to get the text on the very corner of the paper, and the printer was able to determine where the next form started. I believe that my problem lies within my code. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Trying to print an 8x10 but I'm being 'forced' to a 4x6

I'm on a MAC with PS CS5.  I have saved an image as a .jpg sized to 8x10.  This image has never been sized as a 4x6.  I try to print it using FILE > PRINT.  The print preview window has the dimensions above it indicating 4x6 and I get a warning that "some clipping will occur".  The 'Scaled Print Size' box shows:  100%, H:  7.998, W:  9.999.  When I check the "Scale to Fit Media" box the numbers change to 50%, H:  4, W:  5.  The preview of the image still shows the paper size will be 4x6.
I don't have a "Page Set-up" or "Show Details" button to click on.
    Printer = HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Bernie

can you post your screenshots please so we can assist you with some more detail, all screen shots from file to the final print dialog. The website for your printer suggests you select "simple Print". Then set the Paper size.
Follow these steps to print from the HP Photosmart Essential software:
Open HP Photosmart Essential, click View , and select the photos to print.
    Click Print .
    Select Simple Print .
Set the Paper Size to Borderless 215.9 x 279.4 mm (8.5x11 inch) .

  • Adobe Acrobat X Locking up computer when trying to print

Problem just started recently. When I attempt to print from Adobe Acrobat X either on the print window or when it attempting to spool to printer it will lockup and not allow me to do anything. I have uninstalled and re-installed numerous times. Left it at original version and updated to latest versions but same thing. It will lock up. Any insight on this would be appreciated.
Computer is running windows 8.1 with latest updates
    8GB of ram and a 240GB SSD.

For me, changing to 'Same as my operating system' wouldn't work, as my operating system language is native and cannot be changed, and my CC set to "English (International)".
with A LOT of searching, contacting live support etc. and half year of not being able to do my job properly, this is what finally fixed the problem with every single Adobe and 3rd-party software when trying to print or save to Adobe PDF.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/11001-update-printing-issue.html
Turns out i didn't even have the registry folder "current":
         HKLM\Software\[wow6432node]\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\11.0\Language\current\
so i made one, and typed Acrobat.dll to the default value. Voila!
    Hope this helps!

  • Freezing when trying to print out PDF?

Trying to print out PDF of Aperture 'book'. Each time it freezes on the same page ... this particular page is where I have one image stretched across two pages. Is this possibly a glitch with Aperture?
    Ben
I've trashed my preferences several times; doesn't seem to help. I've also tried to use two copies of the same picture (right half on right page, left half on left page); but that doesn't work too well, as Aperture seems to want to favor one side or the other – and thus I can't adjust the two sides to match up properly.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated, thank you,
    Ben

    Hi Allen,
I'm all topped up, big graphics card, latest ver. of Tiger, permissions repaired every day or so. The mystery continues.
I love the IDEA of the two page spread. Have longed for it in Pages, where I'm producing a whole series of books ... a lot of two page spreads (but done by using two versions of the same still).
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Need help with printing edocs with a laserjet1320. Wont print large jobs. installed 10.7 update.Help

i am trying to print 50 page(5mb) document package on legal paper and the printer is printing one page at a time. I am using a macbook pro  10.7 and I have installed the update. however, it seems as though the computer is not correctly communicating with the printer. A four page job was no problem. I believe these printers are capable of high volume printing. Can I reinstall the firmware? Adobe acrobat will not even communicate with the printer. It just says "waiting for printer to become available." Using "preview", it sends the job to the printer, however, it is printing about 5pages per minute. It is connected through a usb cable. thanks for your help.

  • Strange transparency problem trying to print a pdf made in Pages

    Hello,
Let me apologize in advance for this one, I think it's probably a doosy.
Not having the know-how to efficiently do a layout in InDesign, I have been doing print projects in Pages. It has worked fine in the past to print to Adobe PDF postscript from Pages, open up Distiller and convert to a CMYK pdf from there. For my current project it worked fine for the first 2 renditions, but for the 3rd edition (incidentally the one the printing company printed) looked very "muddy." Fonts were very rough and rasterized badly, and the whole thing looked kind of "brown-washed". They claimed to use a program called "Apogee" which they said told them there was a transparent layer over everything, converting all the fonts to CMYK and thus making them lose their nice crisp blackness. They've also said that it must be a setting in Pages that has caused this, but I can't see how that's possible! When I look at the source file in pages there is no such transparency. Several of the images do have their opacity decreased to varying degrees to help the whole piece blend, however this transparency they say Apogee pulled off the top cannot be seen from my end. We are down to the wire trying to get this job to print again, but I am stumped as to how to ensure that this rendition of the file will be done correctly.
As perhaps a side note, Distiller seems to be a pretty quirky application for me, often failing to convert on the first or second try, but somehow "magically" working on the second or third attempt for no apparent reason and without doing anything differently.
Thanks so much for any help - I am definitely cracking out the books and forcing myself to learn InDesign after this nightmare!
    - A-J L.

They claimed to use a program called "Apogee"
Agfa Apogee, introduced in 1998, was simply the first prepress workflow product that processed page-independent PDF instead of processing page-dependent PostScript into an internal and intermediate display list prior to marking. The prepress operator would be using Apogee to preflight the PDF you submit as printing master, and the problems found in the preflight are those of which you were informed.
As perhaps a side note, Distiller seems to be a pretty quirky application for me,
Adobe Acrobat Distiller has been difficult to configure since the day it was introduced.
Adobe Acrobat Distiller is a PostScript interpreter that converts page-dependent PostScript page description programs into page-independent PDF page descriptions without programming loops and links that produce dependencies. PDF uses a directory design for the objects in the page descriptions, a design that originates with Xerox Interpress (the idea of a directory is in fact printed on page 390 of "Interpress - The Source Book" by Harrington and Buckley published in 1988).
converting all the fonts to CMYK and thus making them lose their nice crisp blackness. They've also said that it must be a setting in Pages that has caused this, but I can't see how that's possible!
It is left to 'application intelligence' whether to match RGB black for type to CMYK black for type or to match RGB black for type to separationBlack for one plate/plane on a four plate/plane offset press. The problem with an offset press is that it lays down the inks at inking units that are some distance apart which invites misregistration. QuarkXPress, PageMaker, InDesign and other authoring applications developed for PostScript imaging on offset presses have ink palettes with four fixed inks of which Black produces separationBlack.
Pages does not have this possibility, so if you want your type to image as deviceK / separationBlack then you need to select your type and apply the following procedure, or set up styles with the following procedure applied. Open the Apple Colour Palette, select the CMYK slider mode, select some type, select the Advanced icon (the colour space icon on the left), in the drop-down menu select Device CMYK, and set the slider to C0, M0, Y0, K100. This procedure can be used by the typographer to control that deviceK / separationBlack is imaged, but for as long as Microsoft Word has produced type that is RGB, prepress processes have intercepted this in PostScript and reset it to deviceK / separationBlack including Helios colour management for OPI.
In prepress there is no way to please all parties. If you as developer say, "OK, I'll set the type to deviceK and then show this colour managed on the display" then you will have designers and people who write for designers like Sandee Cohen yelling at you for making type less black than they think type should be, even if in fact the colour of type printed on diffusing uncoated paper is way lighter than they think. And if you say, "OK, I'll set the type to R0 G0 B0 so it is as black as the designers think type should be" then you'll have the prepress crowd with their offset presses yelling at you. Neither party accept that black is a colour, one wants type to be as black as possible regardless and the other party wants type to mark on one and only one printing plate/plane regardless.
converting all the fonts to CMYK and thus making them lose their nice crisp blackness
I would wager a box of Carlsberg beer that the prepress operator is ignorant of the controls in Agfa Apogee, and that Agfa Apogee has a control to catch RGB type and convert to deviceK / separationBlack. Try telling the prepress operator to READ the manual -:).
Several of the images do have their opacity decreased to varying degrees to help the whole piece blend, however this transparency they say Apogee pulled off the top cannot be seen from my end.
Generally speaking, you should not be sending plain PDF to prepress. You should be sending PDF/X-3 which depends on you as designer flattening transparency, or better still PDF/X-4 which passes the problem of flattening transparency to the application intelligence of the prepress raster processing system. PDF 1.3 does not support transparency nor does EPS and nor does PostScript any language level.
