Trying to print via wifi to epson stylus color 740 but can't

Hi all,
I am trying to set up my just purchased PowerBook g4 to print via airport wifi to an epson stylus color 740. I have been printing to this printer from my old laptop without any problems but I forgot how I set it up. It had something to do with lpt1 protocols. Is that IP address setup? I am now trying to set it up through OS X 10.5.4 and the other laptop has OS X 10.3.9. The dialog box is a little different and gives me many options for connecting. Which one do I use? The printer is hard wired to my SMC router which is connected to my g4 tower.
I got as far as trying to print to the printer but it would say it was sending then says the printer is paused when it isn't.
On my Titanium g4 the settings are:
printer name: lpt1on192.168.2.1 on 192.168.2.1
location: unknown
queue name: lpt1on_192.168.2.1_on192.168.2.1-1@g4tower
host name:g4tower.local
These settings are working not only for the Titanium g4 but for 2 other IBooks in the house. I just don't know where to put the settings in Leopard.
Thanks for any help,

Generally, there are two issues.  First, you must know which paper to select, and second you must specify a feed-method that allows the paper you want to be in the list.
Second thing first, as it's more tricky.
The paper selection in the "Media Type" drop-down of the Epson 3880 Print dialog (the second print dialog presented when printing from Aperture) is limited by the selection you make for "Paper Size" in the Printer section of the Aperture "Print" dialog.  To get "Fine Art" papers to show (and be selectable) in the Media Type drop-down, you must specify a Paper Size that allows those papers.  Anything marked "Manual" should suffice.
An example will be helpful  .  I print most of my work on Epson's Hot Pressed paper, which I purchase in boxes of sheets.  If I am printing to 8 ½ x 11 inch sheets, I do the following:
In Aperture, in the Printer section of the Print dialog, I select "US Letter (Manual - Rear)":
(This is the key.  Selecting "US Letter" will not allow me to specify the paper I want.)
When I click the button "Print", another Print dialog opens.  This one is specific to the printer (in this case, the Epson 3880).  In that dialog, I specify for "Media Type" on the "Basic" tab of the "Printer Settings" tab of the "Print" dialog "Hot Press Bright":
This shows in the drop-down menu, along with other papers which must be fed manually:
I hope that helps.  Non-Epson papers should come with instructions telling you the paper to select.  For instance, I also print to Hahnemühle Harman low-gloss papers.  These specify that I select "Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster", which I do:
In the above dialogs, you can see that I have created printer presets for the papers I regularly use.

There is a driver available for Mac computers, so, yes, it is compatible with Mac OS X.

  • HT3669 Hi! I just bought an old printer, an Epson stylus color 740 and my computer doesn't detect a driver to install it.

I tried with download.com and the drivers seem corrupted. And this model is listed on the apple website. Where can I find a reliable place to download this? I have a macbook pro.
    Thanks a lot everybody!!

Well. Peter Bannon is correct in that you can download the Epson drivers (although they're 1.05 GB in size). My previous suggestion was meant to just get the small portion of that 1.05 GB file that you need.
The "try later" usually means that Apple's update servers are temporarily down, and that often gets corrected within a few minutes.
    Restarting can never hurt.
Unfortunately, I think that you do need a specific driver for the Epson 740. I don't think you can use a "generic USB driver" (as you _can_ for many network printers).

Just loaded 10.4 onto my iMac G5. Now it won't print.
    Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks, guys!

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup Utility.
    You haven't tried installing anything - don't!

Question:How do I connect my MacBook Air so my Epson Stylus Color 740i Ink Jet Printer will print?

First, the Epson Stylus Color 740 (which I assume is your printer) is listed in this article, which is good news:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
So Apple can provide its driver software.
This article tells you how to set up your printer:

So Does Maverick Fix this issue?
Im trying to sort out my inlaws wireless printing issues. They have a mac running 10.6.8 works fine wirelessly and USB. They have another mac running 10.8.5 and this mac will not see the printer directly. I can print via mac 1 using a shared connection. But if you deselect mac 1 sharing options then mac 2 cannot see the printer. I can print via usb and via the shared connection using mac 1. But not directly.... So if Bonjour is no good on 10.8.5 does the update to mavericks fix it?
    Thanks

  • Mavericks 10.9.5 upgrade - cannot print via wifi anymore

I upgraded Sept 20th to Mavericks 10.9.5 and now I can no longer print via wifi to my Epson XP-410. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and utilities, rebooted the printer, rebooted the computer, etc. I then tried printing via USB cable and that worked fine so its just the wifi printing. My other computers (windows 7 and OS X 10.7.5) work fine.

Unfortunately this didn't help me. I had already uninstalled the Epson software/drives and so ran the disk utility repair permissions twice -- once with the Epson driver/software uninstalled, then reinstalled the Epson drivers, and then ran repair permissions again. I rebooted and repeated the driver install & repairs but nothing works. Basically when I get to the Add Printer screen (either via in the install steps or manually in the System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners screen, the printer never shows up in the list to select and add. Next time I'm not upgrading my OS; I should have known better as I've learned with my iPhone and iPad that all those upgrades do is break my working devices . I still never resolved those issues so am unhappy right now with Apple.

  • Problems printing using iPhoto and Epson Stylus Photo R2400

I'm using OS 10.5.6 and iPhoto 8.0.2(402) to print pictures on my Epson Stylus Photo R2400.
I have other printers set up on this computer and they all print everything just fine regardless of the program I am using.
Using the Epson Stylus, I'm able to print from any other program than iPhoto.
When I try to print pictures from iPhoto, I get the error message...
can't open ` /private/var/spool/cups/tmp/4a18c65407c9b (the numbers at the end changes each time I try to print.
When I go in to check the folders out to see what might be causing the problem, the permissions on the folder cups and tmp have the following rights set up. system = Read & Write, _lp = No Access, everyone = No Access.
I've been able to set the everyone setting to equal Read & Write access, but I can't get the _lp access to change. When I reboot the computer, the everyone setting goes back to No Access.
Any ideas for how I can get this to work?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't have a tried and true fix for that but I would start with dumping the printer driver via the System/Print pane and then reinstall it. Go to the Epson site to download the latest driver for that particular model in case there's a newer one released.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • I can't get good prints from my Epson Stylus Color 1160 now I have OS10.4.4

My previous Mac was a PowerMac 8600/250 with OS9.1. Since I have had the new iMac G5 the prints I get from my Epson Stylus Color 1160 (which was working OK with OS9.1) have a poor colour match with the on-screen image and are too dark. The printer interface offers far less options than were available with OS9.1. I have downloaded the latest driver from Epson. I even found an alternative driver on the internet called GutenPrint 5.0.0bz2. When I tried to install that I was told that a newer version was already installed. I have tried all variations on the driver settings but none of the results are anywhere approaching satisfactory. I have spoken to Epson but they were not able to solve the problem. I mainly work in Photoshop CS2 so I spoke to Adobe about the problem but it still wasn't resolved. Does anyone have any suggestions of what else I can try?

When you were printing in OS 9, did you print in CMYK or RGB profiles?
If your printing directly in Photoshop, try, I think its "RGB 1956" profile. Good luck and let me know if this helps.

  • Cannot print via network on Epson R300

Hi, I have Epson Stylus Color R300 connected to my wireless router that has printer server. It works fine with windows (one desktop machine with Windows XP and one laptop with Windows 7) but I cannot print from macs (Macbook 2008 and Macbook Pro 2010, both OSX 10.6.6 with latest updates). I tried to play around with different drivers and settings - no luck. Sometimes printer replies '192.168.1.1 is busy', sometimes is does not do a thing. I tried native Epson drivers, gutenprint 5.2.6+CUPS, PrintFab - no luck.
Did anyone have any similar problem? Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. The router is Zyxel Keenetic though this product is for Eastern European market only. I tried to search their website and found similar model for Western Europe - http://www.zyxel.co.uk/web/productfamilydetail.php?PC1indexflag=20040520161313&CategoryGroupNo=7C8C841D-F9CB-46AD-B0DA-C 4FA7F1DA500
I have tried IPP and LPD but nothing worked. After googling this issue a bit I found that some people tried to put P1 as queue but it did not help as well.

  • Unable to print to printer via WIFI

    Hey Guys,
Did a search and read heaps of topics but didn’t find the situation that I have – so I hope one or more of you can help.
HP PC connected in a room about 3m away via Ethernet to Thompson TG782T. HP CM1312 laser connected to the HP PC via USB. Imac connected via WIFI. The Imac replaced an old Dell system also connected by WIFI. The Dell on windows XP could print via WIFI to the printer no problems.
Unable to print via Imac. HP PC running Vista Home premium. Printer sharing is enabled. Unable to even see the CM1312 in the Imac systems preferences.
Any ideas welcomed – thanks for your time..
    Dan

The following is from Mac Help in the Finder's Help menu. Go to Mac Help/Index/P/Printers, adding and removing/Adding a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB/CIFS
You can print to a printer connected to a Windows computer if it supports SMB/CIFS. The printer’s owner must set it up to be shared and use only the following characters in the name of the printer and computer: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, !, $, *, (, ), _, +, -, ‘, and . (period).
+To add an SMB/CIFS printer to your list of available printers, you need to know the printer’s workgroup name and (if necessary) the user name and password.+
+*To add a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB/CIFS:*+
+1. Select the printer from the browser.+
+a. If prompted, enter the user name and password for the printer.+
+2. Choose the item appropriate for your printer from the Print Using pop-up menu.+
+a. Be sure to choose the correct printer model for the printer you’re using. For more information, see the documentation that came with the printer. If you have an HP PCL compatible printer that’s not listed, choose the printer model that most closely matches your printer.+
    +3. Click Add.+

  • FIX for EPSON Print CD V2.02 - EPSON Stylus Photo R200 - MAC OS 10.5.9

I thought I'd post this ridiculously long info sheet on what finally got my R200 to work with EPSON Print CD and 10.5.8 just in case it might help someone else BEFORE they spend days searching for a solution.
Check the printer driver information in System Preferences, Print & Fax. If it says anything other than EPSON SP R200 Series, you’ve likely located the problem. My system showed the Gutenprint v5.1.3 and /or CUPS/+GIMP... I originally replaced the Gutenprint driver file with the CUPS... file thinking this would solve the Gutenprint driver problem. But, as I continued to look into what was going on, I think I found out that both driver files are actually considered Gutenprint driver files.
    1. Select the hard drive where the operating system is located.
    2. Select Library/Printers.
    3. Select the Epson folder and delete it and then Empty Trash to make sure it’s gone.
    4. Select Library/Preferences.
    5. Select the Epson folder and delete any files that are there.
(Steps 4 & 5 might not be necessary, but I’m listing everything that I did.)
    6. In System Preferences, select Printers and Fax. Control click in listing area and select Reset Printers.
    7. Load the Leopard Installation CD and select Optional Installation.
    8. Select Printers and select Epson. This will reload the printer drivers for all the EPSON printers that are included on the install CD.
    9. Go back to the System Preferences, Printers and Fax window. Click on the + sign to add a printer.
    10. There will likely be a listing with Printer Name as EPSON Stylus Photo R200, Kind as USB.
    11. Click on an arrow in the Print Using: box and select EPSON SP R200 Series. The printer icon changed dramatically at this point, with a rainbow of colors on the document shown coming out of the printer.
Note: **Working within the Print & Fax app seems to be key to getting the settings corrected.** Someone else pointed out that they also found this necessary. However, I couldn’t get the proper “Print Using:” option to appear until I cleaned out the Library/Printers/Epson folder, “Reset Printers”, and reloaded the EPSON printer drivers from the Leopard installation CD.
I had previously done the “Reset Printers” and reloaded the printer files, but as was advised against in the post I mentioned, I selected the “More Printers” option. That’s where I found the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 listed with the CUPS+Gimp ... and the Gutenprint driver listing options. Selecting what appeared to be the Gutenprint alternate printer driver didn’t help at all. I’m not sure if the EPSON SP R200 driver file was missing from the original listing of printer drivers or if I just missed it. I certainly would have looked for it if I had known it was the one that’s needed.
    12. Open the EPSON Print CD V2.02 app. Although I had already installed the Easy Print update, I got a message saying that the application needed the update to work. So, I reinstalled the Easy Print update.
    13. After reinstalling the Easy Print update, I reselected Update Printer Information. Much to my amazement, I got a message and a progress indicator showing the Printer Information was being updated to reflect the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 printer.
    14. When the Update Printer Information process had completed, I clicked on Print and suddenly found that I was able to choose Select Printer and pick the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 and CD/DVD wondrously appeared in the Media Type.
After this point, all the other instructions that are provided from EPSON seemed to work just fine.
Hopefully, there’s enough information in here somewhere that people with other operating systems and printers might at least be able to get a clue . . .

I dug around on the Epson site and found this which seemed to address the exact problem so they obviously know about it. Unfortunately even these rather drastic steps failed to solve the issue for me.

It may be a problem with your printer. Try posting on a Canon forum. Often times it is not your Mac.

  • Photosmart 5520 on OSX mountain lion wont print via wifi

set this up several times, having 'reset printers' etc etc, but it just will not print via wifi - just get a message saying printer is busy.
it works ok via usb cable - and it even works via wifi when printing a test page in utlities!
    totally stumped.

As much as I aware from my personal experience I came accross this model where a talk talk representiv has confirmed that the HG533does not support Bonjour.. I suggest checking that with talk talk.
You may try a temporary direct connection without using the router and check for any change, I believe that will work what means that the router break the connection.
To test such a connection follow step one below to enable wireless direct for the printer:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03269394&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5157536&tmp...
Next click the Wi-Fi icon, select Join other network and select Show Networks.
Select and connect to the Wireless Direct name.
Under Print and scan click the Plus sign, try adding the printer and check for any difference.
Once done testing reconnect the devices to your router..
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

  • Samsung CLX3185FW will not print via WiFi since installing Maverick OS

My MacBook PRO recognises failsto connectto teh printer via WiFi despite I have inserted the correct printer IP address when goiong through the process of adding the printer again. I can connect to this multifunction printer/scanner/fax. I can also access the printer itself via the "Open printer utility" in System Preferences > Printer & Scanners > Options & Supplies > Utility printer utilities and see the cartridges toner level but the printer is in "Sleeping" mode. All attempts to wake the printer up or resume existing jobs in the queue fail.
Not sure what else to try.
    Thanks for any help.

I have found the solution to this issue.
I connected the Samsung CLX3185FX directly to the router and switched the router on/off (not sure the latter is strictly required). I did not need to reboot the MacbookPro. This worked. Not only I could print but also, upon disconetting the ethernet cable form the printer, it all worked again wirelessly.
Probably this is has to do with the printer using dynamic IP and the inherent instability of this on the WiFi network. The direct ethernet cable connection printer-to-router fixed it. I waited for the printer to go on stand-by to see if it could be woken up for printing from the MacBook PRO, which was one of the issues I had after installing Maverick OS. It all worked fine.
