Trying to re-install ID CS2

I'm trying to install ID CS2. I experienced the same problem as another poster--it unexpectedly quit immediately upon launching. I logged into my testing account, trashing prefs, but that didn't help. Now I want to re-install it. I followed most of the uninstall instructions, but since I also have a buch of CS3 apps on my machine, I'm a little wary of getting rid of some of the items it's instructing me to remove in the Library. But now I'm stuck: when I run the installer, I can't choose InDesign to install it (the name is grayed out and I can't check the box).
Help!

One other option to consider although I must admit I have never tested it is VMWare's Fusion software.  They do allow you to virtualize Mac OS on Mac OS.  I believe the intention was to be able to run Leopard on Snow Leopard.  I'm not sure if Parallels offers the same functionality I can't find any documentation to support or deny it.  But if an OS update broke CS2, you could run a virtual environment.  Of course you would need another license and the only way to do that at this point would be to upgrade to SL and risk your CS3 installation and run CS2 in a virtual Mac environment.  And everything I can find seems to suggest the 10.5.8 and 10.6 versions both have issues with InDesign CS2 4.0.5.  Not that this helps you, but if you go the virtual route you know where to stop now.  And to answer an obvious question that may come up, there is no way without a backup to downgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.5.7.

  • Weird system crash when trying to install Photoshop CS2

It gets to "Running installer script" and then nothing. I only have a movable cursor at this point. I can't even force-quit. I'm left to force a shutdown with the power button.
I've tried Hardware test and the computer passed. I check the disk in disk utility - was fine. I even tried copying the photoshop disk to the HD and run it from there... crashed the same way.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Frank, not sure if this is quite your problem, but there is a known issue with Photoshop CS2 and Intel based macs after the last security update. If you install Photoshop CS2 then the computer will no longer boot properly.
The solution is to start up in "safe" mode (by booting the Mac with the shift key held down - this may take a while as "safe mode" involves a full directory check and repair if necessary) . Once it has booted remove Adobe VersionCueCS2 from /Library/StartupItems.
If this is not done then the only way to boot the computer is by Netboot, CD boot or Safeboot.
Adobe are apparently promising a fix. see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2358601#2358601

  • I have been trying to install Photoshop CS2 but it fails, why?

It is always at the same loading point, "control packet" and then it crashes, why?
I got the idea from here -> Grab Photoshop and CS2 For Absolutely Free Right Here And it is not a virus, promise
Anyway, I have installed Photoshop CS2 on my other computer so it could be that reason, but I don't think so.
    Please help

First off, the article you link to is WRONG. Adobe have absolutely NOT made CS2 "free" - the replacement download is only legally available to customers who already owned a copy of the CS2 applications and couldn't reinstall them because the activation servers were closed down. If you don't have a genuine paid-for license for CS2 from back in the day, you are not allowed to use it. Period.
Also, CS2 is old. It's not designed to run on modern operating systems.

That is correct Das_Sad.  CS2 will not run on Intel based processors under Mac OS.  You will need to find a Mac computer with a PowerPC processor if you wish to run Creative Suite 2.

  • How do I install Photoshop CS2 on a MacBook Pro?

I am trying to install a CS2 version of Photoshop on my mac and the installation keeps failing. How do i get it done?

Unless your Mac has OSX 10.6.8 with Rosetta, a PPC emulator, you can't. CS2 doesn't work on Intel Macs.

  • Cannot install Photoshop CS2 on Intel Mac 10.4.6 or 10.4.7

    Hey,
I have just tried to install Photoshop CS2 on an Itel MacBook Pro but it gets stuck while installing "Shared Packages" of "Adobe Help Center".
    Any idea out there?
    Thanks

Please don't say that CS2 doesn't work under Rosetta, when it does. There are performance issues, and for those who use CS2 for large, system intensive purposes have good reason to not want to upgrade to Intel, but that doesn't mean CS2 won't work.
I haven't experienced the install problem personally, but googling "cs2""intel""mac" yields this article:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060524084530919
To summarize, it may be an issue with either Quicktime 7.1 or Adobe Version Cue.
    Good luck.

  • Problems installing Photoshop CS2 on iMac

I have my brand new iMac 20" Intel Core Duo, and I have recently purchased Photoshop CS2 and I can not get it to install. I saw in some places about the SU 2006-003 patch, but I have not installed that. I also saw about VC2 in the startup items, but that is not on my hard drive.
The problem that I am having is that it gets so far into the Running Installer Script and then everything just freezes. I'm not sure what could be wrong.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Todd

    Hi all,
I have had some luck with CS2 and my iMac Intel. But this is only after i spent a week of trouble shooting. A WEEK, on a brand new computer?... this to me is laughable. I am a die-hard Mac user but i have to say i am thouroughly disappointed in my new iMac. After 6 great years on my reliable G4 550Mhz 768RAM i upgraded to an iMac Intel and I just don't see the stability that i used to have with my G4.
Anyway, on the iMac, I did ALL the updates (including the security update and QT 7.1) and was running os x 10.4.6 and when i tried to install CS2, when i got to the second disc, installation froze, computer froze and i had to force a shutdown with the power button. When restarting, the iMac booted to the desktop, but nothing else loaded (no dock, no finder bar at the top, and no desktop icons; mouse didn't function as well) Called AppleCare and ended up having to trash my preferences and trash all that was installed by CS2. Well, that got my iMac working again but was nervous about trying to install CS2 again. Reading somewhere on these boards i came across a thread that mentioned installing Stuffit Expander, saying that some files on the installation discs needed decompression and since stuffit didn't come with OS X 10.4.6 i went ahead and downloaded the free stuffit expander. Heck at that point, i was ready to try anything. After installing stuffit, i tried installing CS2 again and this time the installation did work but seemed to freeze at the end. No message saying installation was succesful, just froze after CS2 finished installing from disc 4. I force restarted with the power button again, but this time the desktop, icons, mouse and dock were working as normal. I was able to run illustrator, photoshop, indesign, golive, bridge and acrobat pro simultaneously, but i wasn't doing any "real" graphics work. I do notice a lag when switching between apps. For example when i switch from illustrator to photoshop, it takes a few seconds for all the tool bars and palettes to load. I should also mention i have 1 gig of RAM. Read somewhere it's better to have 2 gigs, but come on... 2 gigs of RAM just to have functioning software? (another disappointing work around) Not sure if stuffit helped, or just a coincidence. I'm no expert so I'm wondering if anyone else tried that and had success like i did.
I am sorry about this rant, but you figure if you pay so much for a computer, that it should work correctly and that it was tested realistically for bugs. Not with a supercomputer with infinate RAM. I know i bought an apple, but this computer is running like a lemon and to be honest, i'm nervous about installing any updates or additional applications. Being a freelance designer, i don't have the option of pushing back deadlines... and the troubleshooting and time on-hold that i have to waste is crippling my workflow and losing clients for me. Wondering if i would be able to exchange my iMac for a G5 PowerMac with no restocking fees. I have no problem paying the difference in price between the machines but refuse to pay restocking fee for a machine that simply does not cut it.
Well, hope everyone else has luck and let me and the discussions boards know if the stuffit thing is a fix, workaround, or just coincidence and i got lucky installing CS2
    good luck to all

  • Can't Install Photoshop CS2 Correctly

I recently installed Photoshop CS2 on my Windows XP (SP2) computer. It installed fine about a year ago, but I got a virus and had to format my drive to get rid of it a few months ago. I tried to reinstall my software today, opened it, clicked the register later option and tried to start using the software but an error message popped up: "An error has been detected and activation cannot continue. Please restart your computer and reinstall the application." Obviously I followed these instructions. I also tried running the installer as an administrator. No luck. No matter what options I select I still get this message. I can't even install the 30-day trial version of the software because when I start using it, I still get this message. I even get it when I'm not connected to the internet. I don't care if this isn't the latest version. I still paid hundreds of dollars for this software and I should be able to use it regardless, so would someone please tell me a way around this issue? I have a feeling if I contact customer service, they won't care because it's an older Photoshop. Also note that I've been unable to install this software on other computers as well. I only have one computer running the software, but I was told that I could install this on two computers. Even if I couldn't, that still doesn't explain why even the trial version of the software doesn't work. Please help. Thanks.

  • Trouble installing Photoshop CS2

My name is Michael and I work for the U.S. Navy on board the USS Emory S Land.  My command bought my shop a new computer recently that is used strictly for desktop publishing and video editing projects.  This means it has NO internet connectivity.  I tried installing Photoshop CS2 on it with a valid serial number and I get an error message:  "Setup could not find a qualifying product.  You may install a qualifying version of Adobe Photoshop and run setup, or contact Adobe Cumstomer Service."  Calling customer service is of no use, they won't help.  Can someone please help me?  Thanks.

you recently downloaded the cs2 installation files and you are using the serial number(s) from the page with the downloads, correct?

  • Problems Installing Adobe CS2 software

    Hi,
I purchased my iMac aswell as Adobe CS2 software back in September. I started installing the CS2 software (4 discs) and by the last disc, installation froze and the drive sounded like it was in a continuous search on the disc. So I had to reboot and eject the disc. This continued for 2 more tries. I contacted Adobe and they said it was a disc problem, so I exchanged my CS2 for another CS2 disc set. I completely erased the previous CS2 applications, reinstalled OSX and tried again. This time it was the 2nd of 4 discs that just got skipped over - nothing even installed from that disc - the computer just spat it out and said: "disc 2 complete, please insert disc 3..."
Anyone think I have drive or hardware issues???

    Hi Bushfire.
I had a very similar problem when I installed CS 1 under OS X 10.3 on an iBook. In that case it turned out that the version of Stuffit Expander supplied with the OS was too old. (The stuffit engine is, I believe used to unpack some or all of the goodies from the installer). After upgrading Stuffit Expander to - I think to version 7 at the time - the install went perfectly.
OS X 10.4 doesn't have any version of stuffit expander included with it at all. Have a look on versiontracker.com to download if you haven't allready got it. Could be worth a try.
I have subsequently installed CS 2 on my iMac G5, and everything went OK -so it CAN work.
Good luck - and let me know if it works.

  • Installing Indesign CS2 on WIN7 64-Bit

    Hello,
i tried to install InDesign CS2 Upgrade from the original CD-Rom on a new PC with WIN7 64-bit.
To activate the installation I used the serial number from the version 1.0 IGP100R7012137-635 from the original register card from InDesign 1.0.
This combination was used since any years on my old XP-PC and now I want to use it on the new system.
What happened: InDesign CS2 said during the installation process: this serial no. IGP100R7012137-635 is not an InDesing serial no.
I contacted Adobe via chat and they said, I need an InDesign CS2 version without need for activation, because Adobe killed the server for this function because of technical reasons.
My question: from where can I get these InDesign CS2 version without need for activation?
The serial number from my CS2 InDesign is: Deleted by moderator.
Who can help or knows an easier solution?
Thank you in advance for help!
    Renate.

NEVER post a serial number on a public forum and be aware that CS2 is totally unsupported on Windows 7 and will be even worse on a 64 bit system. Heed the warning on that page:
Adobe does not support CS2 applications, which were released more than seven years ago. Adobe strongly advises against running unsupported and outdated software.
