Trying to re-install my macbook

So - i followed the instructions for re-installing my macbook.
I backed up all my files onto external hard drive, i wiped my macbook clean, and i am trying to do the 2 disk installation.
Disk 1 completes, and then it asks for disk 2.
I insert the disk and once it gets half way through it comes up with an error message saying to try again. I have now tried 3 times and still no luck. I am even looking at the installation log to see if there is a reason for the error, but it is giving me nothing.
Any ideas???

You could have a bad disc. Check and make sure it's clean with no scratches on it.

  • Yosemite Shows when trying to re-install system via internet

    Hi
I am trying to re-install my MacBook after fitting a new hard drive so I have chosen the re-install from the internet option and logged in using my apple id.
It shows Yosemite as the available OS, but says busy.
    Can anyone
    a) shed some light on this
    and
    b) tell me how to install mavericks which is what I would like at this stage.
    Thanks

You are/where a beta tester or else you would be able to install Mavericks. That being said, you will need to go the the MAS and download Mavericks to your desktop. You will then need to create a bootable thumb drive and get the Mavericks installer on it. (You could try a piece of free ware called Disk Maker X) or you can follow any of the recent online instructions. You will then need to boot from the newly created thumb drive and from there you can reinstall Mavericks. Apple sort of indicated this in the FAQ's for beta testers. Best of luck. :-) You can also call AppleCare for assistance.

Can not start up on my Macbook pro. All I get is a grey spinning wheel. Tried all the Startup key combinations and nothing works. I reset the NVRAM and nothing. I booted with start up disk , ran disk repair and all is ok. Tried to re-install OS but when I get to designating drive its blank. When I go to startup disk there is a "?" mark. When I restart under startup disk search for a drive it still comes up with nothing.  Before I got the grey spinning wheel I had a locked screen. Could not move curser or click on anything. Finally just shut down. Thank you in advance for any help!

Shouldn't still have a 'beachballing'... if the drive is being found and the system is trying to boot from it but is having problems, I would suggest looking over ds store's user tip - Step by step to fix your Mac.
It's likely either something corrupt in your system files or a failing hard drive. But follow ds's steps until you find the cause of the problem.
    Good luck,

Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...
P.S. Since I'll be in the Dallas-FW area in late June, I can volunteer with the confetti....

I had the exact same issue; Lion recovery from Command + R would hang with the logs showing the same message.  To resolve, I used Disk Utility to remove the recovery partition.  My Air then used Internet Recovery to load all the tools.  When using Reinstall via Internet it worked just fine.

I am trying to sync my new MacBook Air iCal with my iMac calendar.  It will synce with MobileMe calendar on the iMac, but I can't get rid of iCal on the iMac and this one keeps coming up with an error message.

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

Hello m.goo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
To eject the Disc, hold the Mouse button down, (or what passes for it on a Laptop), while powering up, if you also hold the Option key down at the same time it should eject & give you a chance to insert your install disc & wait for it to shw as a Boot option.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc , then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.

  • Trying to re-install Aperture after hard-drive failure. Invalid installation code!

After my original hard-drive crashed, now I have my Macbook Pro back I'm trying to re-install Aperture 2 but it claims the installation code in invalid. Any ideas?

Are you referring to the serial number? If so make sure you're entering it correctly. Given the length of the serial number and the similarities between O and 0 and 1 and l it's easy to make a mistake.
See Troubleshooting Professional Application Serial Numbers and if that doesn't help try Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers for a way to get a new number.
    good luck

  • Tried to upgrade HD in Macbook Pro 15" mid 2009.

Tried to upgrade HD in MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009.  Upgrade HD is WD 1TB (WD10JPVT).  Installed from scratch in a USB container.  Within that container the disk boot and ran fine.  The problem started when I installed in the computer.  The disk boots fine, but runs EXTREMELY slow.  I have reset the system management controller and PRAM.  Any suggestions?

That could explain the lag. Go into Disk Utility, click on the storage DEVICE (above the Macintosh HD volume), then check how it shows up in the specs on the bottom of the window. MUST say:
Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
If not, you will have to repartition (click on the Options button, may need to delete the current partition) and format again. No other way.

No, unless you install Windows, which you can certainly do. Boot Camp allows you to install any number of different operating systems.
