Just have ? in placeholder for pix. Looked for easy preference but not able to locate one.

If you see Develop in the Safari menu bar top of your screen, click Develop > Disable Images
That will remove the ✓ mark.
Quit and relaunchg Safari to test.
If the Develop menu is not available, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins and extensions.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not a plug-in issue, select the Extensions tab. If there are any extensions installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that made a difference, uninstall one at a time, quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the culprit.

Backing up and restoring your Profile should have included your bookmarks.

That looks like a JSON bookmarks backup file, from 11-01-2012. Did you try '''restoring''' that file?

Never messed with JSON files other than viewing them on a few occasions out of curiosity. There are no line breaks which make them very difficult to read.
As far as working with that file in {like} NotePad goes:
A. use Find / Search for each indecent of a '''"uri"''' string, then "copy and paste" the uri into another text file, and then move on to the next "uri" string.
B. use a text program where a filter can be set for the "uri" field in the JSON file for a line break or to "scrape out" the "uri"s only for display or export to a list of uri's.
Or try using an online JSON editor like this, to try to display only the "uri" field.

I've never heard of that product before, but it seems to be, among other things, a 32-bit browser plugin. If that's the part you're having trouble with, quit your browser (e.g., Safari), select its icon in the Applications folder, open the info window, and check the box labeled "Open in 32-bit mode." Relaunch the browser and try again. If that doesn't help, contact the developer for support.

And if You change view - in main "window/view field" so that You see the box-plot structure.
No exclamation marks there either ?

iDVD do not copy Your material - only points to where it is stored. So if on any external hard disks, USB-memories, CDs or DVDs are missing - assetts are broken.
Or if You changed location of any material or directed iPhoto or iTunes or GarageBand to a new Library - Then iMovie/iDVD also get's lost.

A Power Mac is incapable of being upgraded to Mavericks. It is a PPC Mac which can only run versions of OS X up to 10.5.8 and no higher. Any version of OS X higher that 10.5.8 requires an Intel processor to run.
Does the iMac meet the hardware requirements for Mavericks?

I think ive just done it! I think ive been in Safari clicking file, open files, downloads - and thats where it was grey. i just went from the 'Finder' icon and was able to download its doing it now. i think i need some tuition as i dont know if i wasi n the wrong place initially but i could see the downloads just not click on them. Are you using a Mini DisplayPort or a Mini-DVI adapter on your MacBook? What input are you using on the TV, VGA, DVI, Composite, Component or HDMI?
Also it would help to know which one of the 21 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
And the make and model of your TV.
