Trying to reboot my MBP

I have a mid 2009 MBP and I'm trying to reboot it but I have been having problems. I tried IR and it doesn't recognize my internal hd to reinstall it. I tried everything! Even trying to boot snow leopard from the disc my mac came with

If both Internet-based Recovery Mode and the SL install DVD's Disk Utility fail to detect the storage device, then it either failed catastrophically or the Mac is unable to communicate with it. The device itself is listed on top, as in xxxGB Apple HDD xyzw-model-number. If the device shows up, but no Macintosh HD startup volume appears, then again there's either catastrophic failure or the contents got totally wiped out.
What to do? If no device is found, can be a dead drive OR a bum SATA connector (a known failure point in these Macs). Solve which by taking the drive out into an external enclosure and trying there. You may need either a new drive or a new SATA connector.
If the device is there but no volume, try repartitioning it to create a new volume and reinstall the OS. Check also the S.M.A.R.T. status of the device: if anything but Verified, drive is dead and should be replaced.

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

I am assuming the phone was working prior to you installing IOS 6? Did you use itunes to install IOS 6 or just run from the phone?
When I tried to do the Over The Air update to IOS6 on my iPhone 4, it errored out and I had to connect it to iTunes and select "Restore" from the summary screen after iTunes finds the phone is connected. If this works for you, it will go through a couple of reboots that take a few minutes to complete. It should then give you the option to start with a fresh new phone or to use one of your previous backups to load your contacts and other information, provided you have backed up the phone previously.

this happened to me with my iPhone 4. I researched the problem and found this :
"The reason this happens is because every time a downloaded app is opened it checks for your itunes password for validation that you are authorized to open that app (as it may contain personal info). From time to time the iphone 'forgets' your itunes password. You can fix the missing password by syncing the iphone with itunes or downloading an app from the app store and entering your password that way.”
And to fix it, all I did was download a new app, or delete a current one, I used Facebook, and re-download it.

It tells me I need to erase and reformat the hard drive then reinstall the operating system. I do not have a back up of all my applications, my garageband music and other things. I also do not have time capsule set up on this machine, but I do have a 2 TB time capsule.
Is there anyway to back up this corrupted drive so I can restore my applications later?

There's an old saying. If you don't have a backup disc, then there must be nothing important to backup. That's just lesson #1. Lesson #2 is to never interrupt a software update. Not a good thing.
OK, I'm sure you know this. It just upsets me to read your story, knowing you have a lot of important stuff on your hard drive, and didn't use time machine.
You're pretty much in a bad place. My only hope for you is to boot to your Installation Disc, then using disk utility see if you can save the internal hard drive (by fixing what can be fixed). You might be able to see your user folder and some of your apps. I wouldn't even consider copying the library, because who knows what's been corrupted in there.

After reinstalling MAC OS 10.6.8, I config the permissions to read/write/no access, my MacMini [mid 2010] refuses to reboot. I tried to reboot in safe mode with Command+S and fsck, but after the steps to be taken, it says fscs not done, root device is read only. I also tried to bypass the Mac firmware password by taking one Ram card out and reboot the macmini while holding COMMAND+OPTION+P+R. But no luck. The macmini is not able to see the mac OSX installation CD.
Please help ??

How and where did you change which permissions? And what was the goal?
Do you have a complete backup of your system? and more importantly data files?
What happened that prompted the need to reinstall the 10.6.8 update?
The immediate road forward would be to boot from the optical drive and revert the changes you made.
What happens when you boot with the install cd and hold down C or hold down the option key?

It's probably that your Keychain password is not the same as your login password. If you configured your computer to log you in automatically, you may not have used your login password in so long you forgot it.
There is no way to retrieve the "login" Keychain password, but you can reset the Keychain from the Preferences menu: select it in the Keychain Access menu and select "Reset My Default Keychain". This will create a new, empty Keychain but the old one will be saved should you ever remember its password.
The result of this is that you will have to supply passwords for everything that requires it, since without your Keychain they will no longer automatically fill themselves. However, once you supply them and store them in your new Keychain, they will be remembered.

hi all
i'm trying to reboot my imac g4.
basically i want to erase EVERYTHING of the Hd and start from scratch again.
why? I'm trying to install adobe cs2 and i want to make sure that i've gotten rid of all the preferences and older versions of software that might be lingering around hidden in corners.
i have a set of 3 ibook g4 OS v 10.3.7 install discs, they came with my sisters ibook g4 (i brought this mac 2nd hand with os 10.3.7 already installed).
i've tried going through the disc utiliy an erasing the hd but i cant do anything.
also tried putting in the disc, restarting and holing the 'c' key down, but that didnt work either. the cd kept ejecting.
Can anyone out there help me? i'm not too mac sabby so if you could spell it out for me that'd be really helpfull, because i'm not really 100% sure of what i'm doing here (i'm not even 50% for that matter)
please i really need some help.

As roam posted, you can't use these on the iMac G4.

Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Panther is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs, as you have discovered.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.
The discs should look like the images in the above links.
Once Panther 10.3.x is installed or reinstalled, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version..
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.

One more thing to try. Double click on the home button. Scroll in that bottom line of icons (swipe finger to left) to the app that are all white. Hold your finger on the app until the - sign appears. Tap it to close the app. Hopefully it will then show up correctly. (As they say about chicken soup curing a cold, "can't hurt")

If all user-installed apps are not launching, it could be an Apple ID authorization issue. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information.
