Trying to record a voiceover using my Mbox 2...

Hi. Hope somebody can help.
iMovie can see the Mbox and also suggests it as an audio input in the dropdown menu, however it cannot hear any audio from it.
I have checked in system preferences, pro tools, garageband etc and everywhere can hear the audio except for imovie. Can someone please tell me what i am missing?

Hi Rob and Pam - have you made sure that the settings in System Preferences are correct?
Actually, I found that I had to use an iMic (USB connection) to get sufficient volume on my lap-top (which has an in-built mic).

I think you've got the right driver selected, otherwise it wouln't work at all. The single most obvious thing to ask you though (I'm sorry if this is too basic) is where you have the pan controls set to? To get each mic to record on a single channel, you'd have to have one panned hard left and the other panned hard right. If you leave them both panned dead centre, that's exactly what you get - both mics on both channels.

Voiceover using camcorder

I'm trying to record a voiceover for a promo video using my camcorder as input device. In order to record, I have created an empty project in FCE. The camera is conected and recognized. The In and Out points are set in the timeline. Settings in the Voicover panel are:
• Source: DV Audio
• Input: Mix 4 Channels
• Rate: 44100 Khz
• Offset: 1 frame
When I hit record, FCE goes through the pre-roll (3 bips), then apparently records and goes to finishing, but the recorded audio clip never shows up in the timeline. The target track A2 is empty at the time of recording, so there shouldn't be any problem with the destination.
My specs are: iBook G4 1.25 Ghz/512 GB RAM, FCE 2.0.2, QT 6.5.2, OS X 10.3.9

Ah, gotcha.
Okay, can you hook up an external mic to your camera to get mic away from the source of the noise? You can pick up a decent (not great) lapel mic with an 1/8" plug from RadioShack for $35, or get a $25 cardioid (when on sale) with a $25 XLR and a $15 XLR-1/8" adaptor.
Another option, while we're talking money, would be to get a Cardioid mic, an XLR cable and a Tascam US-122 and import your Audio over USB, which is great except for when your Tascam dies... like mine did a couple days ago. Worked great for years though.

How can I use the USRP to record a signal using its two RX port simultaneously?

I am trying to record a signal using two horn antenna. The reason I need two antenna is to cover the wide frequency range (DC-6GHz). one antenna is covering DC-300MHz and the other one covers 300MHz-6GHz. So I need to use two RX port of USRP at the same time to record the signal. I have two questions:
1. Does any USRP in the market capable of covering this range of frequency?
2. Is it possible to use both RX port at the same time to record signals as I described? If not, how can make that happen?
P.S. I have two NI2920 USRPs and two N210 USRPs in my lab.

Hi Sam,
To answer your first question the USRPs that you have cannot reach the frequency range that you want. There is not a USRP, to my knowledge, that can reach this range in one device.
Also note that you cannot use two RX sessions for two different ports at the same time using LabVIEW and the USRP driver. If you want to use both RX lines you will have to run one session with one line, end the session, and then start a different session for your second RX line.

Trying to record Stereo Mix with a monitor through my headphones. Using Screenium to record Audio and Video, using Avid MBox Mini with MXL 909 Microphone for the audio through the interface.

Basically, what I am trying to do is this:
Record my screen through Screeenium, record my voice as audio through an Avid MBox Mini (interface) with a MXL 909 microphone to pick up the audio. I have all that figured out. I'm able to efficiently record my audio and screenplay through these instruments and programs. What I am having trouble with is the stereo mix. I am running into a slew of problems here... My goal: Add on the audio of a game that I am playing (for example, Amneisia) so that the audio for my game will be picked up internally, and not through the speakers to be recorded through the microphone. I want there to be no external sound except me talking into my microphone. I also want to be able to HEAR the audio of the game through my headphones (and if possible, myself as well, through a monitor maybe?)
Problems I have run into so far:
-Haven't gotten it to pick up in game audio at all while using headphone. Can't figure this out
-Downloaded soundflower, have the output as soundflower. Not picking up anything, will put all my sound and midi settings at the end.
-When I do record through my microphone, it is only picking up a single channel (left earpiece only, no right channel)
-I have figured out it is NOT the equipment, I use Pro Tools and am able to pick up both channels with my mic, recorded a few tests. It's settings and I can't figure it out
-Trying not to run 16 million programs while running the game, will cause lag.
Summed up:
Trying to record:
-Audio from gameplay of any game I am playing through alternative route of speakers (do NOT want to record game audio through speakers, internally)
-Record voice through Avid MBox Mini and MXL 909 microphone.
-Record screen gameplay through Screenium
I followed a guide that told me to achieve "stereo mix'' I need to download soundflower and follow "X" steps. That is done and these are my current settings:
Audio Midi Setup - Stereo Mix custom Aggregate Device, Soundflower (2ch) selected, Avid Mbox Mini selected, Soundflower Output #1 has 2 channels (1-2), using Avid MBox mini for "Input" in order to record. Using Soundflower AND Avid MBox mini as "Output" in order to hear the sounds and replay game sounds (could be the problem? Maybe?)
Sound Settings - Output Stereo Mix (custom channel) Input Avid MBox Mini (recording)
I'm hoping this isn't too hard to understand.. I'm VERY bad at explaining information regarding computers.. It's hard becuase I don't understand it. I can clarify anything that I am able to, so any help on finding certain things would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to do some research and it looks like you need to have an external device and its drivers, such as an external microphone, installed on the computer to record audio that can be saved as a sound file. Another Suggestion is to try an auxiliary spliter for your headphones and external speakers?
What software are you using to record your game?
If anyone knows anything different, please let me know.

10.5.8 with latest garageband 5.1 with MBOX 1. On Nov 4.09 I did a software update, now i get no output volume or input volume to the computer itself. I get it from head phones from my mbox, but not to the computer. Before the software update It worked great. I've tried upgrading software through digidesign .com, but they dont seem to have one for what i need. any way to get my old garage band back? go from 5.1 to earlier? Or maybe it was the upgrade to 10.5.8. update? Can i go back in time lol?
Any help would be appreciated

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? QuickTime version 10 can only record the entire screen.
10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 offer part of the screen recording.

Thanks for responding. Everything seems to work right except for the when I plug into the 737. Ok let me see if I can be more clear. I had this set up done with two representatives of Neumann, and DBox. Here it is I hope this helps. 32 Channel snake (24 Inputs 8 outputs) Channels 1-8 from snake to my Octopre for Drums. From Octropre output quarter inch lines into the Apollo 2, quarter inch input. This is so that the Apollo 2 is taking the drum tracks. Snake Channel 9-12 into Apollo 1 channels 1-4 xlr. Snake Channel 13-16 into Apollo 2 Channels 1-4 xlr. Snake Channel 17 into the 737, output of 737 into Channel 5 of the Apollo 1 quarter inch.
Ok The Dbox. Sum output L&R into channel input 7&8 of Apollo 1. Apollo 1 output channels 1-8 into summing input channel 1-8 of Dbox. Apollo 1 main L&R going to main analog input L&R of Dbox. Spid out to DAW input of Dbox. I have both ADAT of both Apollos connected by optical wire. Also have port 2 of Apollo 1 into port 1 of Apollo 2 connected by Firewire. Let me know. This causes problems for me. When I place a single .mbox file into a new folder and import that folder I get the following dialogue:
When I click 'continue' I get a new import folder, but the formatting is a garbled nightmare of seemingly random subdirectories upon subdirectories:
Each of the subdirectories under "ASV" should have just contained messages, not lots of embedded subdirectories. Am I doing something wrong?

I get nasty feedback when trying to record using the internal mic on my macbook. I'm running Maverick. Why is this happening?

Note: there may be other issues involved, but without further details I can only suggest that using headphones is the best way to accurately hear what you're recording, adjust gain levels, and avoid feedback. So this should be the first thing to try as you troubleshoot.

Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
