Trying to record from an 1/8" jack

ok. I just bought a 1/4"female going into the 1/8"male jack.
I hooked my guitar cable in it and into my laptop and set the preferences to built in input and everything.
Now i play something, and i can barely hear a little fuzz comming out of my laptop.. not anything really noticeable.
i turned up all the volumes, on the recording dock, and my amp, but when i go to record something
i play it back and it'll have just little spots where it makes just these loud fuzz or strange noises, then nothing at all..
I have No Idea what to do, or what the problem is..
my cables are all good and everything..
does anyone know what this is?

Trying to record from external source, no region created...

Hey everybody. Trying to record into Logic. My aim is to record sets from Ableton but at the moment I am just trying with a simple microphone. I have set my audio record path to a folder on the desktop. I have created an audio track and chosen its input source: stereo input 1 & 2. The track is armed for recording and there is a good level showing. My soundcard is outboard. A Mackie d.2 Firewire Mixer. When I hit record I get the red display along the timeline of the arrange window, the playhead moves but no region is created. When I look in the Audio window there is no file showing there either. When making tracks ordinarily with Logic I never have any problems bouncing stuff and the audio interface is always recognised. The same applies when Ableton is working in rewire. I get a signal easily enough as its routed via my mixer same as with the microphone. Funnily enough I can record into Garageband no problem but as I have Logic its about time I got to the bottom of this. I bet its something really simple I have overlooked. Anyone got any ideas?

Just to add some further info... what it does seem to be recording are midi input messages when I slide the crossfader of my mixer. A region is created but when I click on it the matrix edit window opens... no audio in sight. What am I doing wrong?...

Trying to record from a cassette player or turntable into GarageBand

Hi,
I have cassettes and LPs that are out of print that I would like to put into digital format so I have them in a form I can use more often. I have a cord with a plug in jack on both ends that I used to record straight from turntables & players with a PC (running from the headphone jack into the microphone jack) but my Mac G5 (power pc) isn't recognizing it when I plug it into the microphone jack on the back.
Any suggestions? Does anyone know what I need to use and where to get it?

There was no choice there for "Line-in" in my Sound Preferences. I did some nosing around and found the Audio MIDI Setup.app in my Utilities and there was a way to switch to "Line-in" there. I did that and it works just fine now.
Thank you for your help - it got me thinking, otherwise I most likely wouldn't have found the answer.

Recording from Reel to Reel

I am trying to record from an old reel to reel machine to my MacBook. I have a Griffin iMic and have tried using GarageBand to record the audio.
There are 2 output connection on the Reel to Reel machine -- output to Amp and output to Speaker.
I have tried hooking the iMic to both outputs and don't see much difference at the MacBook (however, it seems the output to Speaker might give a bit more volume).
My primary problem is that the volumes in GarageBand are too low. I have every input slider on maximum (on the iMic input in Preferences and also in GarageBand), but the sound almost never reaches the 50% level in GarageBand. Is there a way to boost this output level ?
Also, is there a plug in to help with noise reduction (to reduce the popping/humming, etc...) ?

try switching the iMic's switch between Line and Mic

Problem when recording from the AUX phono output using creative x-fi elite

Hello everyone?Hopefully someone will be able to help me out here, as I've tried everything, however nothing seems to work. I am using the x-fi elite pro on a windows vista ultimate PC. When recording analogue material, from a tape Dec, for instance, I am using the creative audio console which accompanies the x-fi elite pro. I am using the aux phono input on the back of the box, and everything has gone smoothly until a few days ago. When trying to record from my tape Dec this last week, I suddenly noticed that the sound was very distauted in the left channel. Right channel was fine.Of course the first thing I checked was the level, and this was absolutely fine too, both channels were set to around 50% in the sound-options control-panel. I then checked the cable and then tried it on other equipment as well, and everything was also fine here. I then re-connected it to the audio consul, but got the same results. Fine sounding audio in the right channel, but distauted in the left. I then tryed re-installing the newest vista-driver to see if this would solve my problem, however it didn't. Now I've only got audio in the right channel, but no audio at all in the left. Has somebody inhere experienced anything simurlar, and if yes, can you please tell me what could be wrong??All the best from Allan

On certain mobo/graphics card set ups and some sound cards there is an issue with bus latency. In short while playing back audio you will hear a frequent crackling of the audio. That is not the same as the slight click the Elite pro makes when changing modes. It has been a Creative issue for many years but is only present with certain combinations of hardware. I have experienced that issue myself but several years ago. My current Elite Pro/PC set up does not have this issue.

Can't record from Line-In because the signal is too strong

This is happening with a just bought h9-1150 desktop system.
Intel Core i5-3550 CPU
IDT High Def audio codec
NVIDIA High Def Audio
I've been trying to record from a turntable into Line-In. No matter how low I set the recording levels, the signal is too hot, resulting in overdriven, distorted audio.
Doesn't seem to matter whether Beats is turned on or off.
Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to attenuate the signal or you will damage the audio input of your motherboard. You can either find a circuit online to make a converter or buy one. Here is a web document with more information on the subject.

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

I have a DVD I recorded from my tv. I am trying to make copies and when I insert the DVD I get a message saying it is blank even though it is not. My question are: Why does my computer think it's blank? And how can I copy a DVD?

Recording from input jack

can GB record analog and convert to AIFF using the input jack hooked up to (analog) tape deck? I've hooked up the deck and get a meter reading in Preferences , but don't know which program to record it with. If not GB is there another?

You can use GB to record from your tape deck - make sure you select the line-in as the audio input in GB!

Problem trying to extract records from VBFA on Smartform.

I'm attempting to extract records from the table VBFA and my inexperience with Smartforms is start to show.
I only want to have 1 record per handling unit. I'm extracting using VBELV, VBELN and VBTYP_N via SELECT * FROM VBFA.
However this gives me multiple records per handling unit. There is no further field available on the record to make it unique. This is were my inexperience comes in. How do I perform the read of VBFA without using SELECT.?

You're right, I'm trying to get am internal table to use a loop node.
I'd like to go for the full SELECT into a table then read it and either a skip or ignore a record that is a duplication. I'm not sure of the way to achieve this though. This is the first time I've had to manipulate the data like this. Until now I've had the keys to select the data for me.
I've currently got:
SELECT * FROM VBFA INTO TABLE LT_VBFA
WHERE VBELV = IS_DLV_DELNOTE-HD_GEN-DELIV_NUMB
AND VBTYP_N = 'X'.
Then I have LT_VBFA INTO WA_VBFA in a LOOP node .
There needs to be some thing between the 2 nodes to prune the unwanted duplicates.

Equium L20-197: No line-in jack - How to record from an external audio source

Hi,
I'm generally very pleased with my Equium L20, but am now finding a few annoyances that I guess are cost-cutting issues. For instance, there's no onboard mic, so need to buy one for Voip purposes. And I would like to use this laptop to record from an external audio source, but now discover that there is no line-in jack, and it seems the microphone jack is mono only, even if it was possible to configure the audo card to use this for line-in source.
I'd be very grateful if anyone has any ideas for a workaround perhaps using a USB port.

Problem with Adobe Audition 2.0 and recording from a 1212m.

I bought a brand new machine and have be configuring it all week. Everything has been going well, except getting Adobe Audition 2.0 (the new version) to “hear” sound from the 1212m.
The intel 975 motherboard has an integrated HD sound system already on board and I have been able to get adobe audition to recognize it and record from it. This is what I have Windows XP Pro set to as my default sound card.
I installed the 1212m and I have gotten my monitors to work by using the XLR jacks on the monitors to the ¼ inch jacks on the 1212m using a VST (NI’s Kontakt 2) as the audio source. So it works.
What I can’t seem to get to work is getting Adobe Audition to “hear” the sound coming from the 1212m.
Patchmix seems to be working ok. The audio bars jump each time I hit a note on the keyboard.
I have configured Audition by going to Audio Hardware Setup and setting it to EMU ASIO and tried every combination of INPUT and OUTPUT, but when I hit the Record button in Audition it just flat lines..
I was hoping that once the audio made it from the VST though the 1212m and out to the speakers, that getting Audition to record it would be easy, but that hasn’t been the case.
The Intel 955 Extreme Edition and the 975 motherboard are brand new and I’m worried that being on the bleeding edge of technology, that one of the drivers isn’t working correctly and causing me hours of debugging a problem that is unworkable from my end.
Hopefully the problem is just some small stupid thing that I’m doing or failing to do (like normal).
Any ideas would be helpful.

I'm just saving it into a file in "My documents" on the internal hard drive. It's a computer in the office which has been used my other people before me and I have my own file which I was always able to save Adobe sound files into before, so I don't think it's anything to do with me not being allowed or read-only.
I've also been trying to save it onto USB hard drives. This works when I save it under a different name, but not when I'm just trying to update a file i've been working on. Basically I have to create a new file everytime I add something, so like "myaudit1", "myaudit2", "myaudit3" etc etc, even though it's the same piece of work just updated.

Recording from DAT using SB Conn

Long time ago I have recorded DAT tapes using my Denon DTR 2000. I used digital recording from CD for that.Now I am considering using SB Connect for burning CD's (DAT?is such an old stuff?don't want to loose my recordings). Anyone has tried anything like that? Any problem with SCMS?

Which input on the back of the card did you use? The Line-in is the stereo input. Ensure that you have the cable fully inserted on both ends. Also check with another source such as a CD player or personal radio. This will tell you if the tape player may be sending only the left, or if the input jack is failing.

Recording from minidisc to Logic pro 7 via an fa-66

Hi, I'm having issues recording from a sony minidisc deck through my edirol fa-66 to my macbook. I've tried the various anologue inputs on the fa66, the 1/4 jacks and the RCA inputs on the back. With the anologue it's sounds fine until I arm the track to record, then it starts jumping and phasing. Same with the optical input, I press the "Digital sync" on the fa-66, without the "R" record armed it sounds fine, when I arm it the sound starts jumping and a message comes up "saying sample rate not recognised- Sample rate 3674"
The minidisc was recorded from a PA at I assume the satndard rate for mnidisc players of 4100Khz.

If you are using the Digital input (SPDIF) to record from MiniDisc then you are correct that it is 44.1Khz, but are you ensuring that the SPDIF input is set as the master clock? You will need to ensure that is so whilst you record digitally from it.
I can't fanthom why you might be have a problem recording from the analogue outs though. The phasing sound you describe sounds like you are hearing the original sound plus the slightly delayed sound due to software monitoring perhaps?

Recording from minidisc to creative player with an x

I tried recording from my?minidisc onto my computer with the x-fi card, through the line-in and mic jacks. When I stop recording and turn off the source, I still have the record volume showing some input even though nothing is on. I?even?tried disconnecting the minidisc from the input jack but the player is still showing some input. This is causing my recording to have a steady interrupting noise every quarter of a second or so. Any ideas where to search for this mysterious input or how to get around this problem.Louis?
