Trying to record multiple tracks at once with Mixer (Two Microphones)

I have a Alesis Multimix 4, and two microphones plugged into the mic 1 and mic two inputs.  I am trying to record both, at the same time, to two distinct tracks.  I set Device Class to ASIO in the Audio Hardware section, and delected ASIO4ALL v2 for the Device.  My mixer (I assume) is showing up as USB Aduio CODEC in the ASIO4ALL settings.  When I go back to my multitrack setting, I am given four options for incoming audio:
Audio Front Mic Input 1
Audio Front Mic Input 2
USB Audio CODEC 1
USB Audio Codec 2
No matter what combination I try, when I record, both tracks pick up both microphones.  My goal is to isolate both, so I can apply different settings to both tracks later on, adjust in the mix etc...   The audio only comes through when I pick the USB Audio option.  Thanks in advance.
Brett

I think you've got the right driver selected, otherwise it wouln't work at all. The single most obvious thing to ask you though (I'm sorry if this is too basic) is where you have the pan controls set to? To get each mic to record on a single channel, you'd have to have one panned hard left and the other panned hard right. If you leave them both panned dead centre, that's exactly what you get - both mics on both channels.

  • Trying to record multiple tracks (24) in Garageband with 3 presonus firestudio devices daisy-chained together.

Please help !! I can record multiple tracks (8) on a single presonus firestudio, but now I'm trying to expand the number of tracks to 24 by daisy-chaining three firestudio devices.
The three units will sync up properly, and Garageband detects all of the input channels, but the recording doesn't pick up the input signals for the 2nd or 3rd device. It only picks up the signals from the first device. I read the manual and daisy-chained the devices by serial number (lowest to highest).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

you'll need to create an aggregate device:

  • I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.
Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes.
But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.

  • Can I record multiple tracks simultaneously in v. 1.1?

Hey, I found some instructions online about how to record multiple tracks simultaneously in version 3, but I can't figure out how to do it in the old version I have, 1.1. Any help is appreciated. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this feature wasn't implemented later. I have a two-mic setup for podcasts, and need to record both on diff. tracks.

Multi-track recording was added in v2
From STP 2 Manual - New Features:
    Multitrack Recording
With Soundtrack Pro 2, you can record across multiple tracks in the Timeline. (This is limited only by your hardware setup.)
    So, not available in v1
    Have you tried Garageband?

Same way you select multipl items anywhere else.
Hold ctrl and click the items you want.
If they are in consecutive order, click the 1st then Shift click the last.

  • How can I record multiple tracks simultaneously?

How can I record multiple tracks simultaneously?  Or rather what hardware do I need to do this?  I currently run guitars and mic into a PA and then the PA into Garageband.  But this is just one track.  I want to record the guitar as one track while simultaneously recording vocals as another track.  What hardware do you suggest - keeping it affordable?

if you want to use your two chanel PA, pan 1 channel to the left, and the other to the right, and set one GB track to Mono 1 and the other to mono 2.
if you want better quality, any two channel interface will work:

  • Recording multiple tracks WITHOUT overdubbing

I understand that for some reason the way you record multiple takes in Logic is to just record over your previous take. But consider the following scenario:
    I record a keyboard take.
    With me so far?
Now I want to record a second take, but first I want to play some more over the other tracks without hearing the take I just recorded. I can't just mute the track because I need to hear my playing. I can't delete the track because I want to keep it. I basically just want to create a blank take two, play some more, and then record into that second take once I know what I want to play. Make sense?
In Digital Performer or Pro Tools this is easy. As far as I can tell, in Logic it's impossible. But I just can't accept they would actually design the software this way. It's just too stupid. Can this really not be done in Logic?

Then just press play and play the keyboard along with the first take and the rest of the track.  Record it when you know what you are playing.
If you want to you can mute the first take that should look like this:

  • How to record multiple tracks together?

Ok, completely new to garage band, but I don't see why this is so difficult to figure out. I get how to record a track, and then play it as a loop. But how do I then record something new WITH that loop, so that the two tracks play together (and not just record over it, deleting the first track). For example, how can I record a rhythm part on the guitar, stop it, hit the loop button, and then record a solo over it? Everytime I try this it either records over the first recording (deleting it), or even though it looks like its recording when I stop and hit play I am still only hearing the first track. Very frustrating...
    Thanks!!!!

You create a second track for the solo and record to the second track, then play both tracks together.
Use the "Record enable" button in the track header to enable only the solo guitar track for recording, once your rhythm loop has been recorded.

I'm sure you will get numerous recommendations - what you want really is an Apogee Duet... it's the best thing you'll find for the price and it sounds great...

  • Questions on recording multiple mics at once

Does garage band 3 support recording x amount of mics at once to their own track provided the correct firewire hardware is used?
Example can I record a kick, snare, and 2 over head mics all at once and then go back an edit what each mic recorded or will it all be mixed down into one track?

  • Is there any way to change user operations on multiple tracks at once?

I have a complex project (99 tracks, dozens of menus and scripts). I need to make one version of this DVD for the end client (teenagers at health clinics) who will be forced to view it in a specified way, and another version for educators (staff at the clinics) who will be allowed to fast-forward and have access to a menu from which they can jump to different points in the DVD.
I have different menus to serve as "first play" for these different versions so that I can easily switch between versions when burning disc images, and I have set up GPRMs to make navigation different for the two versions automatically. My problem now is that I want to disable forward scan, next program, root menu, and title menu for the client version. As far as I can tell, I have to do that independently for every single track and menu. Bleah. This is especially annoying since the DVD is still in development, so I am continuing to change small things and will need to keep both versions up to date as I do.
Is there any way to select multiple tracks/menus and change user operations on all of them? Or any other work-around or script that could do it? I thought this would be a perfect task for the automator, but I'm not very familiar with that application and don't know how (or if it's possible) to create new actions other than the ones that are available.
    Any ideas?
    thanks!
    Julie

Thanks. But the disc inspector only appears to let me change things like where the title menu button takes you, not detailed user operations. I have pretty much given up on this being anything other than a giant hassle, but if anybody knows whether a script could do this, I would be eternally grateful.

  • 'disk too slow' problems when trying to record ONE TRACK on my ibook.

okay- help guys. my new ibook freezes after not even a minute of one track live recording and i ge the disk too slow error. i'm using a basic m-audio usb interface with the internal (4200 rpm) hard drive. i know this isn't a fast hard drive, but SURELY. one track? i've been in touch with m audio, reinstalled driver, repaired hard disk permissions. still no good. i only ever need to record two live tracks at a time, but then i do need to stack them up a bit. is my ibook really incapable of that? i'm shocked if it is. anyone want to buy an ibook?
any advice much appreciated as i'm going out of my mind.
    happy christmas,

    Adam:
You haven't given a lot of info, but here are a couple of ideas:
    1) What sample rate are you using? You should be at 44.1 or 48 kHz. Don't even think of anything higher.
    2) Are you recording in a new arrange window? Or are you overdubbing to existing tracks? If so, freeze all your existing tracks.
    3) Are you attempting to use any plugins while you're recording? If you are, turn them off for now.
    4) How much RAM do you have installed? You need at least 768 MB; more preferably.
    5) You're going to need an external drive eventually, but to record one track should be easily done.

  • Is it possible to record multiple tracks simultaneousy on Soundtrack Pro v.1.1?

Sorry for posting this here, but the Soundtrack forum looked dead and I know by this point the programs have been integrated.
Anyway, I'm recording a podcast with a two-mic set up using a mixer, and I need to record each mic to a separate track. I found instructions about how to do it with version 3, but I'm on an old crap 1.1 version. Still hoping I can find a way, though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the 5770 should be installed in the bottom slot, Slot 1, after removing the X1900.  Over to the top left just near the side and top of the fan cowling are two, black, rectangular power connectors.  These are use to provide power for those GPUs that are not bus powered.  The X1900 may already use both, therefore the power cables are already connected to the motherboard.  The 5770 uses one of those power cables leaving the second one free.  Thus, a second GPU would either need bus power or could be powered by the second cable.  This would preclude, for example, using an ATI 4870 because it requires both power cables.  However, you could use a second 5770 with the second installed in Slot 3 (the 5770 overlaps two slots.)  Or at least mine does.
The second card would have to be an Apple-specific card.  You cannot use PC or OEM video cards because they do not have a compatible ROM.

  • Will a USB or FireWire mixer allow me to record multiple tracks simultaneously in GB?

Hi there. I'm very much new to home recording but have an acoustic guitar and mic that I'd like to connect up to my iMac. I was wondering if a USB or FireWire mixer would allow me to record each instrument as an individual track in GB or would the sound all be compressed into one track? Many thanks for your help.

yes, but if all you need are two tracks, even an analogue mixing console will work. a tutorial:
