Trying to recover music from my ipod

I had my computer stolen, and luckily had most of my music on my new 60gb IPOD that I got for xmas. However, the new computer wants to reset and delete everything on my ipod. When I go to Itunes and select import, it finds nothingon my ipod to import. How do I get the music from my ipod and onto my laptop so I can make/manage playlists.

I was told by Apple that you cannot sync ipod to a different computer. They also told me that it will erase the music on your ipod and resync it and add the music on the other computer. This is to prevent us from sharing music.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Have you failed to do this?
If so, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You may be able to purchase a third partyn program to get the rest ( not supported by Apple)

  • How can I recover music from my ipod when its in 'need to restore' mode?

basically, my friends ipod is a old ipod classic and has about 7,000 songs on it and most of them are backed up in the ipod hard drive (like going to the ipod on my computer and organising the files there)
about 2 weeks ago certain songs would crash and the ipod wouls have to be restarted by holding menu + pause then not listen to that song, after a while of this it makes a loud clicking noise whenever it was turned on and all i see is the apple logo for about 5 minutes then it comes up with 'connect to itunes to restore',
once i manage to connect it to a laptop (it has always been annoying to connect) i restarts itself a couple of times, then shows ' connect to power screen ' and at this point the laptop hasnt recognised the ipod yet on itunes and my computer after reconnecting it a few times it will connect and start charging, itunes says that the ipod needs restoring and i cannot open it in my computer as it says i need to insert a disc and also the ipod screen doesnt have the red 'do not disconnect' symbol the screen is black and white and the symbols are a bit smaller and it looks like a disc mode or something? sorry i do not know what to refer to it as
the problem is i need to restore my ipod to help fix it and access my thousnads of files as many of the songs i could not find again, but i cannot get into any of files anyway
i was wondering if there are any ways i will be able to recover my files before i restore it as i have tried some recovery programs but my ipod never shows up on them but if a restore and update was necessary to recover files
by the way my friend borrows my laptop to put music on her ipod which she then deletes from my files afterwards and the ipod has been switched through different computers which the songs have been deleted from anyway
any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you!!!!!
    xx

You will have to use a third party soft such as disk aid (digidna.net/products/diskaid) or iexplorer (macroplant.com/iexplorer)
    Hope this helps

  • Recovering Music from Corrupt iPod

Yes, I had my music backed up, but wouldn't you know my external hard drive had to be reformatted at the same time as my iTunes decided to hate my iPod. I was able to recover half of my music from the backup file (P-Z) but everything else was lost on the HD. We also have a Time Capsule, but are unable to go back to when I had the music on my laptop. Don't know why that is the case.
So, here is the issue. I am able to use the iPod with absolutely no problems. It can be played using an auxillary plug through the headphones jack and also on my Bose which plugs into the bottom. It's obviously the iTunes piece only that is having the issue and thinks it is corrupt. It does show up in iTunes. I just can't get to the music.
I have an iMac and a MacBook. Both are running MAC OS 10.6.7. Please tell me there is a way to find the iPod and get the music off of here before I reformat. I am 9 months pregnant and really wanted to set up a playlist for the hospital. Since I'm due in two weeks, I'd rather wait until after to reformat just in case the iPod bites the big one. At this point I'm not feeling optimistic, but with over 45 GB in the abyss, I'm willing to beg for answers.
    Thanks for your help!

I went through my music and double checked what I was missing. Turns out its only a CD, and some songs that shouldn't be to hard to re-aquire. Also, I am missing an episode of Royal Pains [I have the second episode but the first one doesn't show up...]
I have decided to try and just replace the songs. So I found a different answer. ^^

  • New computer, trying to transfer music from my ipod onto this computer...

Hi there, I can't seem to figure this out. I used to have a Powerbook, but it was stolen when my house was broken into. I just bought a new computer, and I have all my music on my ipod. Is there any way I can transfer this music to my new MacBook? Please say there is, I can't bear the loss of all my music.

i'm having the same problem. my old powerbook died, which was what i synced the ipod with. when i try to sync it on my new macbook, it says it can only be synched with one itunes account. i need to get a lecture off the ipod which is a .wav file. will ipoddisk work with that? also, is there anyway to switch the account to my macbook itunes so that i don't have to keep doing this? thanks a bunch!

  • My old PC crashed.  Trying to import music from my ipod to new PC. My Computer recognizes Ipod then disappears.

I can not go back into my old iTunes to "enable disk" on the ipod, which is the only suggestion I've seen.  How can I get my music off my ipod and into my new iTunes library without losing any data?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If you have iTunes 10.1 on your MacBook, you can sync the iPad to the MB now, per these articles:

  • Recover music from synced ipod (please help)

    Hey everybody,
I hope someone can help me. I have a 160gb ipod classic. I'm currently in Japan. I connected my ipod to the hotel computer in order to charge it. However, since it has a Japanese language itunes, I accidently pressed the wrong button. My ipod synced with the hotel itunes, and I lost all my music- 9000 songs! however, i haven't added anything else to my ipod, so the music should still be on my hard drive, shouldn't it? if anyone knows a way to recover my music i would greatly appreciate it. peace!

The use of some data recovery software would be your only hope. Check out the post in the link.

  • I lost my iTunes library on a crashed external hard drive.  How can I import music from my iPod that was not originally purchased on iTunes?

The 500 gig hard drive on my 2008 iMac was so full it was running very slowly, so I transferred the iTunes library to an old external Maxtor 1T drive.  A few months later the Maxtor crashed, and the library went with it.  My 3rd G. iPod Touch still has the whole library on it, but I don't know if ALL the music will transfer back to the mac when the iPod syncs.  A portion of the music was from CDs we borrowed from our kids.  How can I get all of the music that is presently on my iPod to transfer back to a new iTunes v. 11.1.2 library on the mac?

One application that's able to accomplish what you want is called Senuti.
    http://senuti.en.softonic.com/mac.
I've used it many times to recover music from my iPod to iTunes.

  • Deleting music from my ipod?

I am trying to delete music from my ipod and it will not let me. I have music that has been shared from my sons account or bough by him when he was still living here. I am being asked for his password but obviously do not have it. how do I clean up my music selection without messing with my purchases?
    Thanks

Just guessing but it sounds like it is synced to his account and not yours.  If you connect it to the computer it was activated with you should get an option to sync it to a differnt account.  i.e.  Yours, but when you do it will remove all the content from HIS account.  If nothing else you can do a full restore and when it comes up sync to your account.

  • Deleting music from the iPod

I tried to delete music from my iPod but all the music is greyed out. The music library and playlist is not greyed out so I went into the playlist and checked all the ones' I wanted to delete. I was able to delete the music on the playlist but not on the iPod. I had the iPod plugged in at the time, do I need to unplug it and then plug it back in again. Thanks

"I tried to delete music from my iPod but all the music is greyed out"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to syncronise (automatically update) with iTunes. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab and click Apply. The text will change from grey to dark and the padlock will disappear: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
