Trying to reinstall os x tiger from purchased Tiger DVD Disk

When I boot my PB G4 from the Tiger 10.4 installation disk I get a set up screen indicating that I need to put batteries in a bluetooth mouse???.
The powerbook does have a built in trackpad, and I do not have a BT mouse nearby. I have not figured out how to get past this interruption, any suggestions? thanks. I want to run disk utilities from this disk.
PBg4 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

That explains why it can't boot from the retail disk:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
* Most Macs can only boot from a newer operating system than they came with and the restore disks which came with them.
* The only exception I'm aware of are Mac OS 9 bootable machines which came with Mac OS X. And these aren't true exceptions. They will not boot an older version of Mac OS 9 than came with them, and they will not boot an older version of Mac OS X than came with them. An example is the iMac G4 800 Mhz with Superdrive which won't boot 9.2.1, nor will it boot 10.0 through 10.1.1, but will boot 9.2.2, and 10.1.2 or later if it shipped with 10.1.2.

Why when I'm trying to reinstall my OS, Tiger 10.4, at 56% of the installation, at files writing, it keeps on shutting off?

Does it feel extra hot on top?
Are you reinstalling because you had several problems? If so what were they?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • Tiger DVD disk cause kernel panic when booting on a new G5

I was trying to boot a fairly new G5 system, less than 4 months old, using a retail copy of the 10.4 DVD installation disk. The computer could mount the disk and I can see its contents, but when I booted from it using the C key, I get a kernel panic.
I tried booting from the DVD on an older G5, and it worked without any problems. Assuming that it is not a DVD drive issue, do I need to get an update for the retail Tiger DVD disk to boot newer G5s?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can generally only use newer retail disks than the disks which came with the computer to boot and install operating systems, as well as those which came with the computer to boot and install operating systems. If you are missing the disks which came with your computer, call AppleCare to ask for a replacement.
    This article explains that:

As for installing operating system updates to your existing system, look here for updates:
    http://www.apple.com/swupdates/
And if you are on dialup, some authorized service centers may let you bring in a CD to burn the updates. Check with the ones in your area.

  • Disk Utility stalls from start up DVD disk?

Has anyone experienced this or can confirm this problem:
On my Mac Pro 2.66 with single Superdrive (Optiarc AD-7170A), I can start up from the Tiger OX Install disk one, no prblem. But I cannot seem to sucessfully run Disk Utility from the DVD. When I Launch Disk Utility from the DVD, the application opens and I get an eternal beachball. The DVD drive whirs up a short bit, then goes quiet. The only way out is to powerdown with the front power button. I only have one hard drive -- the stock 250GB WD2500AAJS
Disk Utility seems to launch fine from the hard drive itself -- although "Verify Disk" does take about a minute to process when inspecting my hard drive. Could it be it's just taking a REALLY long time when running from the startup DVD?
Please note what DVD drive you have if things work fine for you
    thanks!

    Hi motifone,
I presume you are using the install DVD that came with the MacPro? If not, you need to.
Make sure there is no non-Apple hardware in the system. Added RAM, hard drives from another source, etc. should all be removed, and the try again.
If still having the same issue, hen there is a hardware issue somewhere. Either the install DVD has a problem with it, or the computer itself has a problem. If you have the disk from another MacPro, try using it. If you have the same result, then the problem is with the computer and it will need to be repaired.
    Good luck.

  • How can I reinstall printer software only from the original install disks?

my imac 17" printer software got corrupted and I can't use my new printer. Is there a way to just install all the original printer software from my original disks that came with the mac? I have updated all the software on the mac and don't want to go back to the old panther disk.
or is there an apple download site that has just the printer software.
    thanks

Insert your original disk and look for additional software, the printers should be somewhere there. Your other option is to get [Pacifist|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743] and use it to extract the printer data from the install package.

  • Is it possible to ask apple to deliver me a tiger dvd disk??

I'm a ibook user and I kind of lost my tiger installation dvd.
currently I want to reinstall tiger since it's really slow
is it possible to ask apple to deliver me an installation disk?
    or any other solution??
    //bow

Yeah but there is no way they are going to cover the costs of a new install disc, especially if it boils down to the fact that you lost them yourself and so it's your own fault. Unfortunately, I think you'd even have to purchase Tiger at full cost. In my opiniion, Apple is not-so-supportive concerning these matters. I had a damaged install disc before I even used it. I called our local Apple Stores and they sent me from one end to another......unwilling to send me a new one.
    So.......good luck with that....

  • Trying to reinstall osx

i've recently purchased a used ibook and am trying to reinstall with the tiger dvd i just got, but the computer just spits it out everytime. is there a logical reason for this?

    Dear MarekB,
Thought that might be too simple!
Just to clarify: do you have the disks that came with your iBook? Presumably these are the disks from which you are trying to reinstall. That the disk is visible in the startup disk preference pane would suggest that it the disk is bootable, but the computer apparently refuses to boot from it on restart.
I suppose there is the possibility that the disks you have are somehow corrupted, but I cannot be sure about this. And the fact that you cannot boot from other disks does not make this the likely cause.
One further suggestion, then. The following article might help: Article #75459-de – Mac OS X: Tastenkombinationen. This link will take you to the German article, just in case, by some off chance, the key combinations might be different. The most appropriate option here might be the one that forces the computer to look for another device to startup from – holding down Option-Command-Shift-Delete.
Sorry I can't really be more helpful, but do post back with any developments.
    Yours, W.

  • My Mail program has gone south on Leopard on my 27-month old Macbook. I can't send, even though the server details are correct. I tried reinstalling from the install DVD - but no go: no longer compatible, evidently.. What to do?

My Mail program has gone south on Leopard on my 27-month old Macbook. I can't send, even though the server details are correct. I tried reinstalling the Mail program from the install DVD, but no go; apparently that two-year old Mail is no longer compatible with my up-to-date Leopard. I tried deleting the account (hotmail) from Mail and setting up a different account (Yahoo). After loading all the inbox two things happened: first, I still couldn't send, and second, when I closed the Mail window the whole inbox then disappeared and doesn't come back. Although I couldn't reinstall the Mail program from the install DVD, would it still be possible to reinstall the whole system from that DVD? If I do, will I lose files or will there be another problem since that DVD is now over two years old?
Thanks for any suggestions; they will be much appreciated.
P.S. I've just noticed that now I can't change the desktop picture: I go through the motions in Preferences, but the new picture doesn't appear on the desktop. Is there a systemic problem?

You are waiting for an apology to something that happened over a year ago? Really? This is why there is a manager in the store. You have a problem with an employee you speak to the manager. Just like you did on the phone. You would have gotten your apology in July 2013.
Here is the information about your upgrade fee.
    Upgrade Fee
It is because when you have a problem you (customers) go running to the store and want to take up the time of the reps to fix it. Other carriers have third parties that deal with technical support and those locations are few and far between. VZW provides this directly through their stores. Also, when you subsidize a $650 and pay $200 VZW has to pay $400. Your monthly service fee doesn't begin to scratch the surface of paying that back. Not with all the money that is put into the network and its improvements.
Then over a year later you get someone on the phone who apologized and offered to waive the fee on your phone and you didn't take it? That offer won't come down the pike again.
One thing you should know is that all these employees are people and as such they sometimes come off cross. I doubt that you speak to everyone so sweetly all the time. Cut them a little slack and put this whole thing behind you after 15 months. Either upgrade with VZW or move on.

  • I'd like to use iPhoto '09 with Lion. Tried to install from time machine back-up no go. Tried to install from iLife '09 DVD no go.

I'd like to run iPhoto '09 on Lion. Tried to install on Lion from Time Machine backup. Got message iPhoto won't work because of a missing Library file. Tried to install iPhoto '09 from iLife '09 DVD. Got message that it cannot be installed on my system. iMovie runs previous versions and iTunes runs previous versions.
Why can't iPhoto run on Lion? My wife has over 10,000 photos in her library and she's taken the time to sort them into folders. I've recovered the library with the folder sort but have to use it on an external drive with a Snow Leopard system on it. The latest iPhoto ('11) has no provision for organizing into folders. I'd really like to have everything in one place with one OS (Lion) and two iPhoto apps '09 and '11 and I suppose 2 photo libraries. I've been trying to resolve this ever since iPhoto '11 came out and I installed it. I can't begin to tell you how difficult it is to answer the question " Where are my folders?" brian25

I tried to check the Library setup on iMovie and iTunes. The iMovie Libraries seem to be part of the applications and my iTunes applications have become Russian so I have another problem. I tried to install iPhoto '09 again from my iLife '09 disk. When I selected "Custom Install" to load iPhoto only, the box I got said " A later version of this application is already installed" The iPhoto item which I would choose for a custom install says "skip". Yesterday I ignored this and went on with an install. The final screen said "Installation Successful" There was no iPhoto '09 on my hard drive. As far as I can tell, you cannot load iPhoto '09 from a Time Machine backup. There is no Lion compatable iPhoto '09 in the App store, and iPhoto '09 will not install onto Lion from the iLife '09 disk.I don't understand exactly what you mean by "load my backup and convert again" Do you mean go to the app store and access my purchases and re- download iPhoto '11 and reinstall it and re-convert my iPhoto library? I suppose what I should have done originally was to duplicate my iPhoto '09 library and put it on an external drive for safekeeping. Who knew it wouldn't install on Lion from Time Machine? When I downloaded iPhoto '!! from the app store I should have duplicated it and saved a copy to an external hard drive for safekeeping and then proceeded with installing iPhoto '11 on my hard drive.I suppose when the Thunderbolt concept is fully realized and monster Thunderbolt external droves are in common use this will seem a lot easier. I have rebuilt my iPhoto '09 library and have it on a hard disk that has a bootable copy of Snow Leopard and a working copy of iPhoto '09 also. I think you are telling me to reinstall iPhoto '11 on my internal hard drive and reconvert the iPhoto library used by iPhoto '11. Right? brian25

    Any suggestions?

    Upgrade iPhoto:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Trying to re-install os system from cd

My macbook recently crashed and I am trying to reinstall the os system from the cd - the computor re-starts and then i'm asked to select a destination volume and none is offered. When the computor crashed a folder appeared with a flashing "?" so i'm assuming it can't find the hard drive.
    can anyone out there help?
    thanks Mark

Put your OS X disk in the CD/DVD drive and reboot holding the C key down. This tells the system to boot from the OS X CD. Then, on the menu bar under utilities, bring up disk utitlity. Then either repair the hard drive, or erase it, if you want to start with a clean disk for the install.
Also, look this Apple repair program over to ensure it doesn't apply to you: http://www.apple.com/support/macbook/hd/repairextension/

  • Tiger DVD Compatibility

My computer crashed recently using Tiger. My DVD player never would work on Tiger and wouldn't even take the Tiger DVD disk after I upgraded. So it was almost useless, but would take and record CD's.
So, since my DVD player apparently didn't work, I had to start over with my Panther original software CD's. After reinstalling Panther, my DVD player worked fine again and was able to take the Tiger DVD disk upgrade, which I reinstalled. So I'm back to Tiger and my DVD player/recorder no longer works again.

This is somewhat unusual since whatever Panther supports Tiger is also likely to support, but perhaps there is something strange with the upgrade disc version. Some people have had success using the Patchburn utility although in theory it should not be necessary.
What exact model DVD player? Get the information from system profiler and paste it here. Which model computer? (Edit: I missed it at the bottom of your post, sorry.) Knowing both of these would be a big help in providing assistance.
Edit: It's possible the upgrade version was intended for a different model computer and perhaps doesn't have all the resources for that model, whereas the original OS does. Maybe?

  • Can't Boot from bootable CD/DVD or USB.

I'm trying to install a new OS from a bootable DVD that I created. However, my T530 will not boot up from the DVD. I checked the boot order in the BIOS settings, and even explicitly tried to force to boot from my DVDROM usint the F12 boot menu. I've been able to boot from this DVD on my other computer.
Any way to diagnose whether my DVDROM is faulty, or is there perhaps some BIOS setting to fix this? I am able to read the disc from Windows, just can't boot from it. The laptop is brand new, just opened it up today, so I don't know why something as simple as this wouldn't just work.

Next, I copied the ISO image to a USB stick and tried to boot from that instead. But it hung. I was able to boot from the same USB stick on another laptop.
All the signs seems to suggest the laptop is simply defective, which is extremely disappointing considering it is brand new and I waited for about a month to receive it.  Is there anything else I can/should try (some diagnostic utility, perhaps?), or do I just send it in for a replacement?
Is you used the tool at http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool to take the .ISO file and create the USB stick, I'd say you are right and have an issue with the system.
Did the system ship with Windows 8 and is safe boot turned on?
Yes, it is Windows 8 with Secure Boot on by default. I tried it both with it enabled and disabled, and it didn't work either way.
