Trying to rent and download a movie.

I rented a movie on my iphone but every time I try to go and watch it a little thing pops up and it say's "you've already rented this but it hasn't been downloaded, go to Downloads to manage your downloads". And when I went to downloads it said " No active downloads." I don't know what to do.

Try looking for the movie in your past purchases to see if you can download it onto your device from that page:

I recented read that I could rent and download a movie to my IPAD for viewing later. I did this and planned to watch on my international flight. When I tried to watch the movie Itunes wanted to connect over the internet 1st, since I had no internet on the plane I was not able to view my rented movie. Was there something I did wrong or do you have to have a wifi connection to select your downloaded movie from the Itunes library for viewing?

You do not need Internet access to watch on rental movie on the iPad if you are offline. Are you certain that the movie completely downloaded?
Assuming that the movie downloads completely to the iPad you do not need a WiFi connection to watch it.

I rented and downloaded a movie onto my iPhone 5, and when I open the Movies app to attempt to play the movie, I get the following error:

An unknown error occurred (-12894)
The film does not play. I've tried synching the phone and the software is all up to date. Might anyone know a resolution?

I have just started with apple tv. I rented and downloaded a movie from itunes on my macbook pro and tried to watch it. I got the movie up, but it only played a picture for about 3 seconds and then stopped, also no sound? What am I doing wrong?

Is the movie still buffering? you may have a slow internet connection. Music files require far less bandwidth than movies.

You did try tapping on one of them in that list in the iPod app! This has happened to me and I was able to start the movie from there. You could try restarting the iPad, go into the iPod app and try again.
Now I'm stumped unless it is a corrupt download. You did download right onto the iPad - correct? If you downloaded in iTunes, there is a Move tab or function that you have to select to transfer the movies to the iPad when you sync. They just don't sync over without selecting move.

This alert is related to iTunes Store movie rentals and authorization issues.
Make sure you are using the most recent version of iTunes and QuickTime. They both can be downloaded free of charge.
If your iTunes is up to date, remove the SC Info folder.

I have rented and downloaded a movie from iTunes. We started watching the film and it worked fine for 55 minutes, which is - according to the status bar - abotu the half of the film. Now the film stops and won t go on.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

TS1702 Twice now rented and downloaded movie to view on flights. When I tried to view on the plane i got a message that it could not be loaded. But when I got to destination, it was okay. Any ideas.

This is in the iPad's Videos app ? If you turn Settings > Airplane Mode 'on' are you able to watch them in the Videos app now ?

i downloaded 2 movies to watch on flight, downloaded to computer. Now have iPad with me. I don't see the movies in library/anywhere in iTunes/cloud so tried to re-download, received message that I had already rented. where can I find the movies?

If you rented and downloaded them on your computer's iTunes then did you then connect the iPad to your computer and move them over to it ? If you did then they should be in the Videos app.
Rentals are a one-time only download so they won't appear in the cloud for re-downloading.

Thank you for responding to my problem so promptly. Frankly, I did not expect to hear from people so soon! The fact is that as soon as I posted the question, I was shown a number of similar queries and managed to find the answer. I have to say it's not intuitive! I have an apple TV original version. Apparently I had the ATV on streaming and not syncing. Streaming does not allow you to stream a rental from your computer whereas you can sync and transfer the rental from the computer!

If you rented it on your Mac's iTunes then it should have downloaded into the Movies part of your iTunes library - if you select that, then is there a 'rentals' tab on it with the film in it ?
