Trying to reset ipod shuffle 1g

Has anyone experienced a firmware update failure (disk write error) error when using the reset utitlity for their IPod Shuffle 1st gen? I've tried all suggestions from Apple to no avail...I need HELP!!

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Since different models of iPod work in different ways, you may be better off creating a post in the iPod nano forum. In there will be other users who know how to reset a nano. (I don't, I have a Classic and a Touch.)

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

If you forgot your screen-lock passcode then:
Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iPod in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes.

I tried to reset my Ipod nano and it won't reset and all i get is error 1418, no matter what I do. I have read what everyone else has posted and nothing is working. Please someone help.

Basically you put the iPod in Diskmode by
1. Resetting (Press the Menu and Center Button for 10 secs)
2. When the Apple Logo comes ON, press Center and Pause Button for 6 secs till the Disk mode screen comes ON.
3. Connect to your iTunes, and Restore to factory settings, if it prompts you. ( be patient for 5 minutes)
if it does not comes On iTunes or on your Desktop, check your Cable or change the USB port to USB 2 port Windows Desktop has these port at the back. don't use the front USB port.
If you using Laptop, read the Manual to see which port are USB 2.0, some older laptop, has only one USB 2.0 port, so that may cause sync failure.

What happens when you connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes? Have you tried placing the iPod in recovery mode in order to restore the iPod? For recovery mode:

Not sure what to do now.

Unable to reset ipod shuffle

1st generation. I tried to delete all songs and now have orange bar showing most of Ipod (94%) full although there is nothing on there. Tried the factory setting reset function but it takes takes me to apple login that doesnt accept my log in credentials, which I know are correct. I can sign into Itunes but not able to sign in when asked to reset to factory defaults.Pleas help if able. Thank you. Tom

The "deposit" is a guarantee against return of your old one after you've received the replacement...you'll be charged IF you don't return it.
BTW, on-line Apple Store has refurbished 2nd Gen shuffles for $49taxshipping.

HT201210 Tried to reset iPod Touch. Will not go past Connect to iTunes screen. Connection is being made because I can see my apps in iTunes.

In order to get rid of frozen screen, I did a reset from the utilities app. Now I can not get past the "Connect to iTunes" screen. I can see connection in iTunes and when I sync or restore, screen changes to "Connected to iTunes." But when sync is over, I am still stuck on "Connect to iTunes" with no way to proceed. I have tried different USB ports. All updates are current. How do I get past this screen?

Resetting ipod shuffle playlist in the field

Here is my deal. On my shuffle I put four or five podcasts first in my playlist, then a few hundred songs. While I am out working, or recreating, sometimes I want to listen to podcasts, and sometimes I want music.
When in sequential play, I can listen to my five podcasts, then get music. But, if I want to listen to music (and forward through the five podcasts), I cannot easily get back to my podcasts.
My question is, how can I get the shuffle to restart at the top of the playlist? This seems to happen automatically when I synch with my computer, but I cannot do it any other way.
I can of course click the back button a ton of times until I get to the beginning, but this is not easy.

Simple: Press the PLAY/PAUSE button THREE times
quickly (within 1 second...) that will take you to the first playable track. The same method resets shuffle mode to new randomization.
I can of course click the back button a ton of times
until I get to the beginning, but this is not easy.

Hi I have an ipod shuffle 4th generation. It was working perfectly fine when suddenly it wouldnt charge and also it is not being detected by pc. I have windows 7 installed on my pc. I thought it would be frozen so I followed the resetting steps on the apple site for a frozen Ipod shuffle 4th gen, but still noting seems to work. Please provide me with a solution asap...

You do have a "shuffle," correct? Not a nano? I ask because a shuffle has no screen, so there is nothing that would appear to be "frozen" and no indicator for it charging (except for a light).
