Trying to resolver last few OSX update issues - Advice Needed!!

I've resolved most of my problems since updating to 10.4.9 but still have a few. They are:
• System freezing up several times a day
• Ichat continually loosing its connection
• certain apps crashing
Here is what I've done so far that resolved most of my problems, just wondering what else I should do.
I've done this: repaired disk permissions, started up from install disk and ran repair disk, zapped pram, restarted and repaired disk permissions from disk utility.
I've found several solutions in this forum that are different, so I'm not sure which one I should follow. Here are the ones I found:
1) Unplug all peripherals including disks, printers, everything except keyboard/mouse. Run permission repair from your HD Run repair disk from your software install DVD. Move the preference file to the trash (com.apple.softwareupdate.plist). If there is more than one, trash them all and then restart.
2) Unplug all peripherals including disks, printers, everything except keyboard/mouse. Repair permissions, run Disk Warrior if you have it. Apply the COMBO updater, not the software update. Restart, apply permissions again, restart. Then, one by one, reattach peripherals, restarting after plugging in each. Repair permissions again after you are finished.
3) The Apple Store Genius replaced 10.4.9 with 10.4.8 and, my problems are all solved. Prior to installing 10.4.8 he ran repair disk, but it did no good. After the install I optimized "update prebinding" with Mac Helpmate 1.1 and found prebinding to still be disabled on many files, so that condition appears to have not contributed to the problem; it may, in fact, be "normal." The Genius recommended, without explanation, that I put off updating to 10.4.9. He didn't have to tell me twice.
Any suggestions on which of those I should do? I kind of hate to go back to 10.4.8 at this point, and wasnt sure if I need to try reinstalling the combo update or what. Any suggestions would be great, a step by step of what I should do and I'll buy ya good six pack!! I work at home full time and am loosing tons of time trying to resolve this.

Hey, I'm one of the biggest apple zealot macheads around, been buying apples since my apple classic in 1991 I believe and have bought a new mac every few years since. My current G5 cost more than my Jeep. I bought the first gen of the Ipod, have bought two others, have the apple tv and will certainly buy the Iphone when it comes out.
I have always always preached the ease of use of the macs, and have litterally converted dozens of people of the last decade to switch to mac.
But I do think its more than a little hipocritical to run adds with the pc guy injured from trying to upgrade to vista, and at the same time we need to follow a 15 step guide(http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html) just to do a system update. And apple not making a judgement call on permissions, that is beyond my comprehension that they can't definitively say when or if it should be done.
And yes, I have told my begineer apple friends to always read the docs in the readme, but that barely says anything compared to what you and others have suggested that needs to be done in order to do a safe upgrade in "Steps for avoiding update failures". I've just been a bit frustrated lately since doing the 10.4.9 update. And another HUGE frustration was spending six months convincing my best friend to get a mac, she buys the top daddy 24 Intel Imac, gets it home, I go to show her the super cool video Ichat to our friend in another state, and guess what? She gets the dreaded "user failed to respond". She could text chat but no video. She was not using a router, and has a fast broadband connection. She paid extra from the apple store to have lots of ram installed so it wasnt that. So as a test I downloaded skype and she could video chat fine with that. She spent 2-3 hours on the phone with apple support trying to get help with Ichat and it still doesnt work, and its a BRAND NEW MACHINE!! And then she runs the latest system update and POW her system is a wreck now. Sorry to vent, just a little embarrased that I talked her into buying the mac and she has had nothing but trouble since she bought it. I guess this is where the secret apple spiders will delete this post...
I do agree on the backup concept, I have everything backed up to multiple destinations, including an external drive, online backup, and periodic major backups to DVD's that go in my safe depost box.

Hi all,
My first post here.
Last week, after install the last update of MAC OSX on my intel IMac (last of 2009), when the computer was restarting, a kernel error screen appears...
I've launched the safe mode, and the computer starts fine and I've execute the disk utility to repair HDD and rights. I've done the same initializing from the installation DVD, but the kernel error appears again...
I leave only the usb apple keyboard plugged, and I don't understand why this error still happening, and of course why it occurs after a MAC OSX standard update (no new hardware or software installed in the las month).
I'm little desperate with this issue

Hi Hugo, & a warm welcome to the forums!
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

It does look like the com.metakine.handsoff.driver, whatever that's about.

Macbook Pro issue - advice needed

Hi!
I have mid 2010 15” i5 2.53 Macbook Pro that has quite famous Nvidia 330m problem, it works fine when it uses integrated graphics, however it randomly crashes after switching to Nvidia.
I am a graphic designer so I need to use adobe programs such as Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects etc, also I need reliable machine, it’s really annoying when I sometimes lose something I’ve been working for hours after computer crashes (I tend to save everything after each modification but sometimes I won’t be able to when it crashes randomly).
It worked alright before while using Snow Leopard, issue started after upgrading to Mountain Lion, then, even after downgrading to Snow Leopard, problem stayed. I tried to get apple to fix it free of charge under their policy for this problem last year however they said that macbook showed signs of liquid damage so they wouldn’t, they quoted me for about £670 for total repair - I didn’t agree on this.
I’ve been looking for some ways to fix it, I upgraded to Mavericks recently and after that macbook was crashing pretty much all the time after few seconds after start up when I was trying to do something on it, when I was using Snow Leopard it tend to crash only 1-4 times a day.
I’ve found the idea with the blanket forcing it to heat, I have removed battery, plugged AC adapter, positioned turned on mac upside down on the edge of my bed (open lid) covered it with blankets and left it for an hour. To my surprise, after it cooled down it was working much better even tho I was using mavericks, it didn’t crash at all for about 2 hours, then crashed once, then it kept going for even 6 hours without crashing which was really good considering previous situations. The problem is, it still crushes sometimes, and I can’t risk losing my work.
There are still some ways I haven’t try yet like:
Putting logic board into the oven for 7 mins
Trying to heat logic board (Nvidia chipset) with hair dryer
Also, there is a repair centre on ebay that fixes this exact issue, apparently permanently by fitting brand new updated GPU Chipset that has been purposely produced by Nvidia to replace the Faulty GPU Chipset - this will cost about £180 including return delivery, and they provide 6 months warranty - there was over 100 happy customers with this problem and it seems like they fixed it
I would prefer to spend as little money as possible, and I have no problem with the speed of my macbook pro, 4gb Ram (currently using 2GB as one stick got broken so it does work slowish, but I will buy another 2gb stick on Monday - or should I get 4gb making overall ram 6gb? will this make much difference?) also, I was thinking about updating HDD to either Crucial 256GB SSD or Seagate Momentus XT 500 and then use my currently installed HDD as external HDD as I have planned to buy external HDD anyway.
Of course, getting the machine professionally fixed and upgrading it would cost me less than spending loads of money (over £1000) for brand new 13” retina mac, I also like 15” screen, even tho 13” retina has higher resolution, build in DVD is beneficial as well.
What do you guys think? Any experience with similar problem? If so what was your solution? BTW, what was the highest amount of money you've ever spent to fix your macbook pro that was out of warranty?

Yes, they specifically fix Nvidia 330m problem, they state that the only true solution is to remove old chipset with their brand new chipset that has been apparently released by Nvidia as an update for this issue, this is exactly what they say:

Scanner not saving or mailing correctly after recent OSX update

I have a photosmart D110a. Since my last Apple OSX update to 10.9.2, When I scan pics or documents, the scan shows up correctly on the screen, but when I save it or email it, it comes up a black screen. How do I fix this?

I understand you are having some scanning issues since upgrading to 10.9.2. There is actually no available HP scanning software for the Photosmart D110a on Mavericks. There are however, work around options for scanning.
I would like for you to click the link and then choose "How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?" and from there you will see your 3 methods for options to scan.

Very poor 3g & 4g coverage for the last few weeks---why??

We have had VZW since cell coverage was available in north idaho, specifically zip 83841. Over the last few weeks, AT TIMES we need to go outdoor to talk, otherwise folks can't hear us. Then all of a sudden, we got a full 4 bars on EVDO & 1RX. 15 minutes later it drops to 0 bars on EVDO and 1 or 2 on 1RX. My VZW Hotspot 5510 only has 3 bars of 4g. For years we have had no problems now it's bad--or even worse than that.
Can someone point to a site or a phone number I can call to find out what is going on and report this major problem???

To check on a service problem contact VZW tech support at 1800-988-0204. Mention the symptoms as you see them for your devices and ask if there are any issues in your area.
To better help you analyze the problem try using signal strength numbers like RSSI and perform a site survey of your area. You can also compare your RSSI numbers with a performance test from http://speedtest.net from your MiFi. The combined RSSI and stats from speedtest should help them evaluate your area and get a technician to check it out.

Be prepared to perform a SIM card reset or two while troubleshooting with VZW. Most of the time when dealing with performance problems a SIM card reset is the first line of defense. SIM cards are the pieces responsible for communicating with the towers in your area. Since you have two different devices able to reproduce the problem you should be able to move through the troubleshooting steps quickly.

Hi, the last few times i have tried to sync my iPhone 4 to my itunes it won't work. I plug my phone into my computer, to sync any new pictures i have taken or add my new music i have bought on my phone, and hit sync. It appears to start syncing then an error message appears saying the following:

When you set up iOS7 the second screen specifically asks that you create a four digit code .
That's what you now need to re-enter in your phone.
Once entered you can go to system/general/Passcode lock
Re-enter the same code and choose turn Passcode off

Connect the iPad to iTunes, and do the update with iTunes.
The 4.1.2 ipsw file will not work, no longer supported.
The incremental update directly on the iPad does not work either, unless you are already on iOS 5.
Let iTunes do the job, you already lost too much time by doing it yourself.

New software update still not downloading. Apps updates have all downloaded since iTunes issue resolved. Is the software issue also related to this, or is there another problem? This is on my iPhone 6, not my Mac.

So is the iOS 8.2 update not downloading to your iPhone, computer or both?
You have synced it to iTunes, that is an option to update if it's not updating wirelessly. Please see if other steps help.

I am not sure if you already tried this, but in case not, try to update Muse via Creative cloud directly.
Start creative cloud application manager, if you dont have it, you can download it from here,
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager
Login using your adobe id, once you are in, switch to Apps, and you should see the Update for Muse, click Update.
