Trying to ... Restore files from MINWINPC folder using HP Recovery Manager

Please help me ... I follow all the steps (pasted below) to restore my PERSONAL files from the MINWINPC folder copied to my desktop computer (new hard drive) from an external hard drive, however it then asks me to insert disc # 171338041 !!! I don't know what disc this is or what it wants!!!! it is very frustrating. Consequently it does nothing other than ask for this disc! even after 2 hours of allowing it to scan for the files ! Reading various information sites/forums it would seem that it is asking me to insert the last disc of the series, however the backup files were all placed onto an external USB drive. and the files are in the MINWINPC folder. It appears to me that the HP Recovery Manager is not reading from the correct place! The files were backed up from my HP compaq which originally ran Widows Vista and was later ugraded to Window 7. The MINWINPC folder contains 2 files namely : Backup.1.exe and Backup.2.fbw I should be grateful for any help... , Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums. There is a way of doing a back up using a USB device but it has to be less than 32 GB. If the data is any more than that then it will become corrupted. As well the back up came from a Vista system and the backup will be looking to load back onto the same OS. By going to Windows 7 it will not find what it is looking for. You would have had to use another back up software for your data that could handle the amount and normally the best way is to plug in a USB hard drive and just drag and drop your files over. At this point you will not be able to recover your data the way you are trying. I hope this helps. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

By using this i am not able to get latest file because for some files the creation date is some older date so is there any way to get latest file based on "Date Added" column of a folder.

If you don't mind using GUI Scripting (you must enable access for assistive devices in the Accessibility System Preference pane), the following script should give you a reference to the last item added to any folder. Admittedly not the most elegant solution, but it works, at least under OS X 10.8.2.

Lost iPod in fire and trying to restore files from external hard drive

I've got a similar issue to folks who are trying to restore their Library from an external source, but with a new twist. We suffered a house fire, and my iPod was destroyed. Amazingly an external hard drive I had done some backups to survived (mostly) and I have several of my iTunes songs, but when I tried to import them into my new computer (and new license of iTunes) I can't get anything to work. I tried manually copying the files over to the iTunes folder and then "importing a file" into my Library but it doesn't do anything. any ideas?

Thank you for the suggestion. I was moving them in Finder, (just as the Genius showed me but obviously he wasn't quite a genius after all!) However, even after moving a file onto the external drive within iMovie like you suggested, it's still not working. Trying to open the files from the external drive, they will only open in QuickTime Player, and also only as individual clips. Any other suggestions would be very much welcomed!

I got a new hard drive installed by an authorized Mac dealer and now I'm trying to restore files from Time Machine. I haven't done anything at all yet with Maverick. I followed the Migration Assistant directions and have the backup connected to my laptop. The backup icon appeared on my desktop. I hit continue and followed directions and reached the point where it said "looking for source" and there is a spinning ball. That was an hour ago. Is it just taking a long time to sort through the large volume of material in my Time Machine backup, or is something wrong? What should I be doing, if anything? Thank you for your help.

Restore files from last Time Machine backup after HD erase and install

I just had to do an "erase and install" ... trying to restore files from my last Time Machine backup but after completing the Airport Utility setup / configure steps, it says "waiting to restart" for a few minutes and then says it cannot find TIme Capsule after restart (though TC never restarted). I'm pretty desperate to get my files back as it's Sunday night and my business needs to be up and running by morning. Any help would be greatly appreciated ... even if it's saying I need to take TC into a Mac store to have them retrieve my files.

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.

Go to Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences trash these files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

Also tried to restore an Excel file I was working on when computer hung, so lost it without saving or naming it. Does it exist anyplace and can I restore it?

Thanks. I had pretty much figured out from other posts that I had better turn off File Vault for my home folder and use a disk utility sparse bundel for little information I wanted to secure. The information about File Vault 2 in Lion was new and useful though.

I would like to restore files from a time machine back-up of my iMac to an EXTERNAL hard drive connected to MacBook Pro. When I tried using Migration Assistant it only gives me my internal hard drive as an option to restore to. The internal hard drive on my macbook isnt large enough to store the files.

OS X can only restore data to the drive where Time Machine backed up files from.
If you want to restore files from the Time Machine backup onto an external drive, your only option is to access to the Time Machine drive manually (open a Finder window and choose your Time Machine drive in the Finder sidebar), navigate through its folders and copy the files you want to the external drive

I have acode which unzip all the files from a folder .This code picks up all the zipped files at a time and then unzip it and write them to another folder but now my requirement is changed ,suppose the source folder where all the zipped files are present is refreshed or updated with new zipped files regularly then how can I implement in my code multithreading to get several files by threads and send it for unzipping.

But my question is that if in a source folder we have several files which are in zipped format and the folder is getting updated every min (say) with new zipped files (which are dumped from some outside environment).I need to unzip all the files present in the folder ,if new one comes there then also check for the new zipped file and unzip it.You don't need to keep re-stating that.
I had written a code for unzipping a file from a folder (thinking the folder is not updated everytime).Or that.
Now I am thinking of using threads because if I create suppose 5 threads and every threads poll the source folder and pick up a zip file ,send it for unzipping it and again poll the source folder for any new entries?Or that.
If using the threads here hits performace then what should I use?Err, what you presently have?
