Trying to run itunes 9.

I just installed the latest version of itunes from the website and it said it was successfully installed. However, when I click on the icon, it runs through its install process and at some point I get this error.
Problem with Short cut
Fatal error during installation
Any idea where to go from here? I JUST got an iphone and am unable to do anything with it because I can't get my itunes up to synch it up. I have an ipod shuffle and have never had any problems in the past. i have a few hundred songs in my library and don't want to lose any of that. Help please!!!

wooooooooo!!! got it working again!! having spent the last 6 hours..no joke six f*cking hours trying to sort it ive finally got iTunes back!!
ok here is what you need to do:
go to the link below and download the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Facility.
http://www.locksleynet.com/2009/06/09/missing-itunesmsi-problem-resolved/
once you have downloaded it, install it and run it from the start menu. once its up and running remove everything to do with iTunes (so iTunes itself, quicktime, bonjour......the lot). Dont worry about removing iTunes completely, all the music is still there when it works again trust me!!
ok once you have removed everything restart your computer, im not sure if this is a must but i did it.
next download quicktime from the apple website (go to the 'downloads' tab near the top. download and install quicktime and restart your computer so the new settings are put in to place ( i think it asks you to restart anyway).
go back to the apple website, 'downloads' tab and download iTunes itself. install that bad boy and you will be up and running with all your library intact!
Hope it works for you mate!

  • HT1923 I am trying to run iTunes and have been advised that i must uninstall and install again. However, in Control Panel, I don't have the option the uninstall. HELP!!!

I am trying to run iTunes. When I do I get this message "Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes and install iTunes again. Error 2 (Wiindows error 2)" . However, in Control Panel, there isn't an option to remove or unistall iTunes, only an option to repair.
Now, when I dowloaded iTunes, i saved it to my flash drive so that i can have it with me whereever I go. I am not sure if the problem stems from there. I also did this so as not to save it on my work computer but still be able to run it from my flash drive.
Please HELP. I miss my music and podcast.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunesSetup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • HT1222 I was trying to run ITunes 10.7 update on my Mac Pro with Retina display but the message appeared "An error has occurred" so I can proceed with the update. I dont' see any other messages. Any ideas what could go wrong?

I was trying to run ITunes 10.7 update on my Mac Pro with Retina dispaly but "An error has occurred" and I was not able to proceed with the update. The message says "The operation was cancelled. (3072)." I have no other messages. Any ideas why I cannot install this update

Scott's solution fixed the problem.  It would have been helpful if the update message in the App Store had reported that.  I had first tried B Noir's solution -- and received a helpful warning message that a guest user was still logged in to iTunes.  I switched over, logged the guest user out, switched back and the update within the App store worked perfectly.
It seems to me that Apple should invest a little time and effort in making their error/warning messages easier to decipher.  I have to come to the forum every time something happens.  Why not simply have a dialogue window that opens up to explain the most likely issues?

  • Error when trying to run itunes

I downloaded ace codecs pack for my pc and after installing I tried to run itunes and i receive an error every time I try!
PLZ help me I dont wanna format the pc agein

    hello the moon!
I downloaded ace codecs pack for my pc and after installing I tried to run itunes and i receive an error every time I try!
gaah ... are you currently getting an "itunes has encountered an error ..." message? if so, does your QuickTime currently give you an error message when you try to launch it?
the Ace Mega Codec Packs have been breaking QT 7 and itunes lately. i think it's something to do with some versions of the codec pack containing the old QT 6.5.2.10 codecs, but i'm not precisely sure what the mechanism is.
first, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall. download and save a copy of the the standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.3 Standalone Installer
if you get an error message on the install, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.
if the install goes through, do QT and itunes launch properly again?

  • I've got TWO problems when trying to run iTunes

I've been trying to solve them separately, but each one of the answers requires for the other problem to be solved, and I am desperate. I've recently (one week ago) bought an iPad mini and I regret buying it, since I can't sync it to my computer. I don't even know what to do anymore, and its been TWO WEEKS of constantly trying.
The problem started when I tried updating iTunes as usual via the Apple updater. Somehow it gave me an error message, so I did as told by the program and downloaded it manually. After that, I got an R6034 error. Following a thread's advice, I uninstalled every Apple-related program in my computer, even did some cleaning-up, just in case. I reinstalled it, and when I thought I was done, an error popped up claiming that I don't have sufficient privileges to start system services, so Apple Mobile Device failed to start. I tried to fix this, but the R6034 error keeps popping up EVERY time I try to install or even RUN iTunes.
What should I do? All my music is in this computer, and I am even thinking about asking for a refund on my iPad and iPod. iTunes has never given me trouble and I've been using it for at least 5 years, but this problem is big enough to make me reconsider whether or not use it.

I reinstalled it, and when I thought I was done, an error popped up claiming that I don't have sufficient privileges to start system services, so Apple Mobile Device failed to start. I tried to fix this, but the R6034 error keeps popping up EVERY time I try to install or even RUN iTunes.

  • Error message 13005 when trying to run iTunes 8

Can anyone help me. I bought my new nano today. Have previously run iTunes with no problems but but today this error message comes up. Have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail.
    Guy

Message numbers in the 13000 range are usually do to a problem with Genius. I have seen 2 totally different fixes posted here in the forums. edit - Sounds like you already tried method 1.
    *Method 1*
Rename these files, or delete them
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
Try opening iTunes again. And turn off Genius as fast as you can. You can turn it back on later, but first get iTunes running.
    *Method 2*
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Choose iTunes, press the Change button and then the repair button.

  • Error message: When trying to run iTunes

I've just installed iTunes and I'm trying to run it, but every time i 'Agree' to the iTunes Software Liscence Agreement, I get an error that states,
"The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder.
I've tried making a folder inside my My Music folder, named iTunes, but the problem still persists.

Did you ever figure out the problem? "Contact Software Manufacturer"?? That sounds ominous... I've got the same issue and I'm pretty durn aggravated right about now....
    Thanks!

  • QuickTime not found error when trying to run iTunes 64 bit on W7, QuickTime not found error when trying to run iTunes 64 bit on W7

I have quicktime installed on windows 7, 64 bit, and then installed the 64 bit version of iTunes. Install is successful, but when I try ot run iTunes, I get an error - "QuickTime was not found". Any suggestions?

I have the same problem, and while I can 'fix' it with the approach described here, I have to 'fix' it that way EVERY TIME I launch itunes.  I suppose the lousy support for mainstream computers is apple's way of saying, 'well of course you can't use your phone, you're not living in a (TM) apple home (TM) please sell your existing home and purchase one from apple if you want your phone to work.'  I never would have imagined that as a computer programmer it would be a multi-hour/failed installation process to get iTunes and the iPhone4 working properly.  What a joke.

  • After updating my iTunes to 10.4 I get an error message saying "iTunes was not insatlled correctly. Please reninstall iTunes. Error 7 (widows error 999).  I reinstalled and still get same message when trying to run iTunes.

When I installed the update originally, it said it installed correctly.  How do I fix this?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • "An error occured when trying to run iTunes.exe"

The problem I have occures when opening iTunes or when it has been open for approximately one minute. There's this error message poping up and tells me that iTunes ran into a problem and has to be closed. This also appears when trying to add music to the library before the error pops up.
I've tried about everything to correct the problem such as rebooting after install, reinstall, download different versions etc.
It doesn't seem to be able to solve. And that's why I ask you. I've never heard of anyone else facing this problem so I need tips.

    hi Christopher!
There's this error message poping up and tells me that iTunes ran into a problem and has to be closed. This also appears when trying to add music to the library before the error pops up.
hmmm. you're right, that one is exotic.
recently, however, i've been seeing more and more unusual errors pop up when people have antivirus applications (or antispyware applications) blocking access to the itunes library. so let's try an experiment. does your itunes behave itself if you launch it (or do the other activities) under those circumstances?
    keep us posted.

My ipod (4th generation;2GB)shuffle has also stopped working. It gets detected on windows explorer shows the content but not playing anything.
    Pl help.

many thanks. (Haven't seen one of these in a while, and now suddenly there's two in one day.)
I think some other application (apart from QuickTime itself) has stashed old QuickTime componentry on the PC in an unorthodox location. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects with that, although some games might do the same.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Tried to run iTunes update and now my libary is corrupt.

My iTunes was too outdate to sync with my iPod. I couldn't get it to run updates or force an update so I downloaded iTunes again from apple website.  After the download finished I installed new version.  Now iTunes will not open and suggest that I need to run installer again. If I try to run installer it again it asks if I want to remove iTunes even though I'm clicking repair. I'm scared to do too much more with uninstalling etc because I would have to lose my libary.  I do have everything on my iPod so if the libary is a goner is there a way to get it back to iTunes?

Uninstall iTunes and any other components from Apple. Reboot. Reinstall. Your library should be fine...
In the unnlikely event that there is a problem with the library, read on.... (Actually read the bit about backing up anyway!)
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
