Trying to run Software Update, but after Restart I just end up back at my desktop screen with no downloads in progress.  Any ideas?

Upon retart, the prompt asks for my system password, and then after I enter it, I just end up back on my desktop screen as if nothing happened.  No downloading or anything.  First time this has happened.
What the what?!

The ailver model macbook was from late 2008. Did the seller provide the original gray install discs with it?

I wanted to mark your answer helpful too but I didn't know that I could only put it for 2 answers. Sorry
That was good advice by G-N and s/he is correct about it. Unfortunately, ASC allows only 2 "helpful" and 1 "correct" marks per thread.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Other countries...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

  • Just tried to do a software update and after restarting, it won't go last the grey screen. Also HTML is showing up that says "unable to find duvet for this platform". No idea what to do help.

So I hadn't updated my software in many many months... I decided to so I could download games... And after my computer restated and had updated, it went to a grey screen with HTML coding. At the top it says "unable to find driver for this platform". No idea what to do please help!

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • RMBP installs SMC 1.1 update but after restart it is still the old version

    Hi folks,
my SMC version is 2.3f32. When I run the update form App Store and restart it wants to install the update again and again. Even the manual installation didn't work out and it shows still the 2.3f32 version in my system information.
    What could be wrong here?
Permissions are repaired, OSX version is 10.8.3.

Two weeks later and I have still been unable to sucessfully install the SMC 1.1 update, and nor have my colleagues. I have also contributed to a thread on Sophos' forums, as I suspect it might be related to SafeGuard. When performing a manual verbose install through Terminal all seems fine but the SMC version remains af 2.3f32 :S

  • Console error messages every time while trying to run Software Update

Trying to check for updates and I get this message in console:
com.apple.SecurityServer: Failed to authorize right 'system.install.app-store-software' by client '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/PackageKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/in stalld' [774] for authorization created by '/System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app' [768]
I have not had any updates in a while, so I am thinking because of this.
    Anyone see a problem.

LONG STORY SHORT, delete all the files in /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/ and then retry Software Update and it should work!

  • I'm trying to run software updates...

but keep receiving the message "You don't have permission" when it attempts to run the updates.  I've 'repaired' permissions and verified but still unable to install.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

You're using a Ubuntu packaged version, so it's Ubuntu's responsibility.
Are you updating using the Ubuntu package manager?

Perfectly fine working iPad and I attempted to load the software update provided for settings. Now all I get is an on again off again apple. Attempted hard reset to no avail. iTunes no longer recognizes the device. So......? what? how? where?
    Thanks, Richard

And one more point, I am not an Apple user. This is my first experience and have had to learn as I go. So any explanations please break it down for a noob. I am fairly computer geeky but when it comes to Mac or Apple or iAnything... I have zero experience.

  • HT4623 I went to setting general tried to find software updates but surprisingly there isn't any! Don't tell me I'm being cheated???

I'm having much problems with my iPhone.

Your account information shows you are running iOS 4.2.
If you have an iPhone 3G, this is the latest version of iOS you can run on it.
If you are using an iPhone 3GS you will need to update via iTunes as is described in the Article you were linked from.

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

IOS updates can take awhile, but if you have multiple applications open or a older compter it will slow the process.
