Trying to save as (print to) pdf, saves as multiple files

Hello,
I'm trying to print to a pdf file from my version of word (not the most recent version, but the one right before that). It is being saved as two separate files, the first containing the first page, the next containing the second and third pages. It is only doing this with this particular file, which has a bunch of EndNote citations embedded within it, but that's the only unusual part about this file. The function works fine with every other document. Any thoughts? Thanks!

When you have multiple sections in Word, it sometimes creates multiple pdfs from those files. I think you can prevent it by forcing a repagination before printing, but I can't remember where I read that. While not specifically addressing the problem, this MacOSXHints hint has a good workaround.

I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.
The word file has a trim size of 6” x 9”. It has been set to mirror margins with the inner, top and bottom margins set to 0.75”, the outer margin is set to 0.5” and the gutter to 0.14”.
It doesn’t matter if I create the PDF from inside Word, or open Acrobat Pro 11.0.9 and click Create From File, while the resulting document size is correct and the odd numbered pages reflect the correct margins, the even numbered pages do not. This results in some text near the outer margin, as well as the page numbers being omitted.
Does anyone know how to correct this?
I just noticed that some of the odd numbered pages' text is also cropped. Apparently Acrobat is refusing to set side margins to smaller than 1" (@ 3cm).

I'm away from my printer, so I'll try it later. Even so, the proposed test is irrelevant. I operate a small publishing house and am trying to upload certain novels to Ingram, the largest book distributor in the world. The specifications I've set are the specifications they've asked for. Since they've said that the results I'm obtaining are unacceptable, and since they demand submission in PDF form, this renders Acrobat Pro for Mac completely unacceptable for anyone in the publication industry. As far as I can tell, Adobe has a serious bug here that it needs to fix—and at once.

  • Printing to PDF results in multiple files

When I print Word documents to a PDF file it starts a new file every time the page layout changes within the document. So, for example, today I printed a 50 page document that changed from portrait to landscape and back 3 times, so it saved four files as document1.pdf, document2.pdf, document3.pdf and document4.pdf. Is there a fix for this? Is there anyway to join multiple PDF files together?
    -Lewis

This is a known problem with Apple's printing engine, and there isn't a fix that I know of yet. One workaround is print using Acrobat, but I don't know if that will help in this situation.
There are probably some PDF tools that will join these pdfs together - you can check versiontracker.com.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi pissedadobeuser,
Does this issue occur with any particular web page?
Are you able to print the webpage to 'Adobe PDF' to convert it to pdf.
Which Browser version, OS version and Acrobat version are you using?

  • I purchased the Adobe PDF Pack but it won't allow me to convert any files to pdf or combine multiple files to into 1 pdf form. It keeps saying "Error occurred while trying to access the file". WHY

I purchased the Adobe PDF Pack for $7.50/month (or $89.99/yr) but it won't allow me to convert any files to pdf or combine multiple files into 1 pdf form. It keeps saying "An error occurred while trying to access the service". WHY is this happening & How can I fix it?

    Hi hpmg,
It seems you are trying to access the service via Adobe Reader. Make sure you are signed in with your Adobe ID. Is Reader updated to the latest patch v 11.0.09?
It might be possible that a firewall or antivirus might be breaking the connectivity from Reader to the server.
Try accessing the service from the browser: https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf  and check if that works for you.

  • I have nine, 1-page PDF files that are accessible and need to combine into 1 PDF file.  I have tried appending, adding and the combine PDFs process. The file created is not keeping my changes. The created file is partially accessible but I have to re-fix

I have nine, 1-page PDF files that are accessible and need to combine into 1 PDF file.  I have tried appending, adding and the combine PDFs process. The file created is not keeping my changes. The created file is partially accessible but I have to re-fix issues I had fixed in the single files. I need suggestions on what else can be done if any. Using Acrobat pro XI.

Out of habit, I tend to combine PDF files in the Page Thumbnails pane by right-click then "Insert Pages" -> "From File". For me, this preserves the tags from both documents, although the tags may have to be moved into the right location (if I recall correctly the tags for the inserted pages get put at the end of the tag structure, regardless of where the pages are inserted), If I first put the tags for the document to be inserted inside a container tag like Section, it makes the process easier. Moving that set of tags to the right place is the only re-fixing that I recall having to do. What behavior are you experiencing?

  • Cannot Save or Print Embedded PDFs From IE9

I have a machine that is having difficulty saving or printing embedded PDF’s from web pages. Embedded meaning that the PDF is displayed in a reader window, within a web page. I am able to view the PDF without any problem however if I try and click the Save button, nothing happens. If I try to print the PDF, the browser crashes.
This is a Windows 7 32-bit machine with IE 9 installed. I am also using Acrobat Pro 10.1.2. I have tried repairing Acrobat without any success, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling without any success. I am able to open PDF documents stored locally as files without any problem, and I am also able to open PDF documents from other websites that are simply links without any problem. I have tried disabling the Display PDF is Browser setting, but that only produces a red X in the placeholder for the embedded PDF. I get the same results if I log into this computer as another user. I have other computers with identical software installed that are working just fine without a problem.
Anyone else having problems saving embedded PDF documents from websites? I am stumped as to why this happens or how to fix it.

I am having a similar issue only with ADP pay statements that are embedded.  I have tried to uninstall, reinstall, installed Adobe XI, installed an older version.  When we click print first the reader crashes and then IE9 crashes.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Best settings for professional printing quality .pdf from Microsoft Publisher file?

    Hello,
I have created a couble of design documents in Microsoft Publisher, and would like them professionally printed. The printer who will print them has asked me to send him the artwork as a .pdf, with crop marks, color density bars and registration marks.
I have Acrobat X Pro, and have tried to use the print AdobePDF function from within Microsoft Publisher but I am struggling to get the best quality result with all the printer marks. Can anyone suggest what are the best setting for a professional .pdf?
I have chosen 'Press Quality' print settings and that helps to make the images look good. But I cant make it work with CMYK? The Adobe printing function doesnt seem to like the 'Composite CMYK' selection needed to make the printing marks available?
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Liz

Try the "Smallest Size" Preset. As a side note, you can reduce the ppi from 300 to 150 in Image > image size (resample on) to reduce file size and keep quality.

  • File Printed to PDF does not match file displayed on Print Screen in OD

I have Oracle Discoverer reports (scheduled) that I open and print to PDF files monthly. My files process and display on my computer screen without any errors. However, when I click FILE-PRINT, I immediately receive the error message "Not all rows have been retrieved. Data may be inaccurate." Most times the PDF files print correctly. However, sometimes not all of my columns are calculated when my pdf file opens. Changing settings under options (Query Governor) does not appear to make any difference. Any help would be appreciated. Sandy

    Hi Sandy,
this is not an error as such, when u run the report in oracle discoverer desktop, it will fetch only first set of values when you scroll down, it will fetch next set of values and so on, if u go to the setup in the discoverer desktop in the edit menu, you can actually set number of records to be retrieved, If u set that according to ur requirement, you will get all the records and it will be properly printed.

  • In page 08, I want to change to any printer in "format for" for multiple files. is this possible?

I have a lot of text files in pages '08 that I saved to print only on a Canon MP 560. I want to select "any printer" for all of them. Can I do this without opening each file seperately?

No, you can't. There isn't any feature that can do that for you.
You can when you are going to print choose which printer to print on. Maybe you will get the question to save the document after the printing and the new printer might be save in the document. I couldn't test it as I only have one printer.

  • Safari errors printing to PDF save / saving web file

Suddenly starting getting errors today when trying to save a web page by either method. Printing-> save as PDF gives "Print" "Error while printing" after selecting a destination folder. Trying to save it was web file gives "The document “Match.com - Find Singles with Match.com's Online Dating Personals Service” could not be exported as “JL”. You don’t have permission." The only workaround seems to be to save to desktop without giving a title, change title, then move to folder and authenticate the move after being told I don't have permission.
Any ideas? This has never happened before and I haven't changed any significant setting (that I know of!).

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try maintenance...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64.* Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta*.

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Creating pdf's from multiple files

    Hello
I have 6 Quark artwork files. Is there a way to make pdf's from them all without opening each one and saving as a pdf individually? They would all need to have the same pdf settings.
    Thanks
    Vicky

That's odd... Try creating a blank Action (under Tools - Action Wizards)
and running it on those files. That should also convert them to PDF files.

  • Firefox printing to Adobe PDF saves pages as images

I like to save articles / webpages as PDF. The printer that i am using is the standard PDF printer that comes with Adobe Acrobat Professional version 9.4
Firefox prints to PDF pages as image files, whereas Internet Explorer etc is able to print pages as simple PDF where text etc can be selected.
Previous to this, i was having a huge problem in printing to PDF. I tried other PDF printers with the the same issue. The PC would just freeze etc if i tried to print to PDF from Firefox version 3.6 etc.
The PC is an Core i7 950 3.0GHZ with 6GB RAM, so not really an old PC.

I had the same problem. Here's how to fix it:
Go to "about:config", set "gfx.direct2d.disabled" to "true"

  • How to save and print PDFs?

For some reason, I am no longer able to save or print PDFs that I download from the internet.  This problem developed in the past 2 days, and I never had this problem before.  I am able to see the PDF when I download it, but when I go to the saved file, I get a message saying that the file can't be opened because it is empty.    In other cases, I would get a message saying the Adobe Reader couldn't open the file because it is not supported, and I also get a message saying that the website blocked Adobe Reader. When I try to print, I get a blank page.   I had been using Preview as default to read my PDFs.  I thought maybe the problem was that I should be using Adobe Reader as default, so I switched to that.  That didn't help the situation.  Then, I tried removing all my versions of Adobe Reader entirely from my computer.  I could, however, not figure out how to set Preview as default, again, and I still was not able to save or print any PDFs.  Next, I installed the latest version of Adobe Reader, fresh, in my computer.  Now I'm back to square 1.  And I still don't know how to set Preview as the default reader.  But I don't think that's going to make any difference, as it was the default reader when this problem began.  My operating system is OS X 10.8.5.  My Safari is 6.1.3.  Please help!

Plus, as I said, I had this problem BEFORE I used the Adobe Reader as the default.  In fact, I switched from Preview, to Reader as the default only because I was having the problem and I thought it would help (which it didn't).  I would now like to switch back to Preview as the default, but don't know how to do this.  Can you tell me how?

  • Can't download, save, or print pdf links on some webpages.

On a couple, but not all, of my financial institutions webpages, I can't download the statements and save them as pdf.
When I click the pdf link, a page opens showing the statement, but to see it all, one has to scroll the screen.  When I try to print it, by clicking File on the toolbar, the pulldown menu gives me only the option of Print Largest Frame which prints only what is visible on the screen in the window.  When I try to save by going to File, then Save As, a window opens for print options giving me two format choices: Page Source (html) or Web Archive, but no pdf.  The statements never download, nor open as pdf.
What is odd, is that this issue is not common to all financial institutions.  On some, the statements read, load, save, and print as pdf just fine.
I have updated the Adobe Reader, and all software on my Mac.
    Anybody, please help!
