Trying to save dvd to hard drive

Hello all:
Not sure if I am in the right post. All I would like to do is save a dvd movie to hard drive to watch in a later viewing. I tried searching for help on this but all i could find was how to make dvd movies.
Could someone help?

Doesn't make it right. If everyone stuck peas up their nose... And you're asking something different. I doubt you carry a disc image of each CD you wish to play on your hard drive. So again, what you're asking to do is against the Terms of the site. No moral statement has been made other than to follow the terms.
Anyway, are you seriously that inept that you can't just Google it? Or do you like going to the *official manufacturer forum* and posting about things which are basically illegal? Oh, and you know the 8Gb you're sucking up on the HDD by making a disc image is already on that little round piece of plastic? Geez. Noobs FTL.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To restore the MacBook Pro to factory settings:
1. Make a backup of your files because everything will be erased.
2. Insert the Snow Leopard disc and press the C key while your Mac is starting to start from the DVD.
3. Go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
4. Close Disk Utility and install Mac OS X

I am now unable to save to my hard drive - i do not have permission

Do songs uploaded to itunes save on your hard drive

I have a stupid question. I am not too computer savy and am putting my CD's on my new IPOD. Do the songs you upload onto itunes save on your hard drive? I don't want to 'stop up my computer' with all the songs, so if they do, I would like to delete them from Itunes after they upload onto my IPOD. Any info would be helpful! Thank you!

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the songs manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you're "trying to launch" an external hard drive, but you don't need Maxtors software to mount it on the desktop. Is this a new drive? Have you formatted it using Disk Utility?

So I formatted a brand new hard drive to MAC OS (Journal), I then could save on the hard drive. Not two days later Im back at square one, the program wont recognize the hard drive again.

as to jog the program into reqcognizing the scratch disk (which worked twice before).
What happened?
How do I get the program to re-recongize my newly formatted hard drive?

The name of the drive, or the name of some folders inside the drive, may fool FCP X into believing it is a camera.
Also, you should not use the drive for time machine backups.

Thanks. It started up com that disk but when I went to install it had an error message (didn't get to write out what it said). So I attempted to restore from time machine but it said there was no space, even though it's a new (replacement under warranty) HGST 1TB HD, so I did what I think was right and tried to partition the disk but it now says 'Partition faild...POSIX report...cannot allocate memory'. im not sure what to do, and I'm trying to remember how the previous hd was installed and formatted for use but that was over a year ago now. Should have erased the hd first or something?

The OP's machine may need to be reinstalled from discs rather than recovery, but without knowing the age of the Mac that is a guess.

I've had my Maxtor external OneTouch 250GB for about 18 months now and it hasn't skipped a beat. I have hear of people having their Maxtor drive just up and die but you will probably find that goes for all manufacturers.
By the way, Maxtor is, amongst others, an OEM supplier to Apple.

The error message probably said "unsupported or damaged"

What you want to do is select the files you want to move then go File>Relocate Masters. Your images will then be referenced to a location you select. Aperture will still continue to manage the images, but the external hard drive must be connected if you want to make adjustments. Aperture will retain Metadata and any adjustment information. Your original images will stay unmodified on your external drive.

Dont buy a Western Digital, get a Hitachi or Seagate (Toshiba is made by Hitachi). These are the most reliable, and the HD used inside Macs.
ALL HD can be made compatible with your MAC (including a WD if you already bought same), ......they just need to be formatted for the Mac platform, format them in Disk Utility as Mac OSX extended journaled.

What version of PS? If it's CC, just reinstall the CC application manager then PS and sign in. For an earlier version you will need to call Abobe to have you S/N reset.

Since you have a new hard drive, there is nothing on it, so you need to boot from an external source (and probably format the hard drive before installing an OS). Are you booting from the 10.6 install disk? Better yet - do you have a bootable backup clone or at least a Time Machine backup?
