Trying to see if LR can do multiple crop presets before I buy..

I'm sure basic questions like this can frustrate you regulars, apologies in advance, I've tried tutorials etc but can't find an easy answer to this..
Aside from organising and making small improvements to my photos, the main reason I am looking to buy LR is to speed up my workflow when it comes to cropping multiple photos to multiple crop sizes.
I work for a newspaper website, and need to crop photos for about 6-10 different aspect ratios for the different places on the site they appear.
Is there a way to get my photo, then select crop "300x100", save it quickly, select "300x200", save it quickly and so on... ideally with each saved file inserting something into the file name to show me later which is which? for big events I can be making galleries of 40 plus photos and so this could really cut down my time.

Depending on what works for your workflow, you could enter your custom crop(s), then select the photos you would like to "batch" crop, enter the develop module's crop tool ('R' for short) and select the aspect ratio. If you have Auto Sync enabled (bottom button of right panel in develp module when multiple images are selected), it will apply that crop to all selected photos.
One variation you may want to make is to create virtual copies (you can do that for all selected photos) for each aspect ratio you want to crop. You may also want to assign them labels (such as tags, instructions, color labels, etc) to be able to quickly select all of the photos of a certain crop.

No.
you have to place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

I'm trying to see if I can download Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended Student and Teachers Edition to a Surface Microsoft Surface product, I have a RT Surface but if I can't do it with that one I will purchase another in the future

You cannot put windows 8 on an iPad and more than you can put an apple operating system on a PC
the only things you can put on an iPad are apps gotten through the App Store
If you want a tablet with windows 8 then you need to get one with the operating system already installed on it

Why can't we preview Ringtones before we buy?

I just bought one of a choice of about 6 versions of the tune I wanted - and it is awful! If I'd been able to preview
them I (a) might have picked a better sounding one, or (b) not parted with 99 pence for utter rubbish.

I found various instructions posted on the internet, which didn't work.
When it came to the convert to aac bit, iTunes only recorded/captured the first chord
of the tune. Kept re-trying, but the same thing happened, then iTunes froze on me, so I gave up
and thought it would be easier to purchase one - only it is rubbish - absolutely awful!
Most of the instructions seem to be from around 2009 or before.
I've only got an iPhone 4 (but I am new to iPhone), but 2012 laptop and up-to-date software.

Multiple crop sets

Ideally I'd like to keep just one master copy of each photo with multiple crop settings that I can define in iPhoto, such as 4:3 for printing, 16:9 for displaying on my HDTVs and 1.5:1 for my iphone 4S. I love all the current features but this seems to be an oversight. Can we include this in the next update please?

You're only talking to other Users here so
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback for feature requests.
As it stands, you can have multiple crop settings off one master - duplicating the photo isn't duplicating the file

Suddenly my event library in iMovie 11 is empty. I have tried deleting the plist, importing clips from multiple locations (to see if they show up in the library), re-installing iMovie, and re-installing Mountain Lion.
I was working on a project, when all of a sudden the event library went blank. There are no devices showing in the left column, only "last import" and "aperture videos". There are no video clips in the editing window. I have "Show: All Clips" selected. I've tried "group events by disk".
When I have a Project open, it plays just fine. There are no yellow triangles saying "source clip is missing". Yet, again...nothing is in the event library large editing window. So, it seems the data is still there, but invisible. This is true with all the projects, and all the external devices I've experimented by plugging in to see if their video clips show up in the event library.
I have tried to import new movies, and iMovie responds as normal...looking like it's importing, then "generating thumbnails", then it makes the "ding" signalling that the import is complete...but nothing shows in the event library. I've tried importing movies from the harddrive, from quicktime, and from an external drive.
I have searched the forums, and found many users with a similar, but not the same, problem. For them, it seems the "go to users-library-preferences and delete iMovie plist" has solved their problem. This didn't work for me.
I uninstalled/reinstalled iMovie, I even have re-installed Mountain Lion (from a last-ditch effort suggestion from Apple technician).
HERE'S AN INTERESTING DETAIL: After almost 5 hours on the phone with Apple, I decided to cut my losses and take my project to another Mac I have. I'm working on a project, for work, that is critical that it's completed by tonight (whoops), and all my video is on an external drive. So, I plug in the external drive to Mac #2, open iMovie, and everything is looking fine. I continue importing some files I was converting, through Wondershare, and suddenly (whether or not this has to do with the importing, I'm not sure), the SAME THING happened to Mac #2!!!! I can't believe this.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Have you ever heard of this happening? Could it have to do with the files I'm importing???

Mac #1 is a 27" desktop, mid-2012, software up-to-date. Mac #2 is a 24" desktop, about 4 years old, OSX 10.7.5

in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible. When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip. ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

iChat will Video chat to another iChat in a Jabber Buddy List (Google run a Jabber server for GoogleTalk)
However it will not Video to the Web Page login to iGoogle or the Web Mail Page login. (where people can Google Chat as it were in a Web Browser).
Nor does it video to the Google Talk Stand alone app for PCs or any other Jabber apps on any platform.
iChat uses a connection Process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which is also used by other VoIP devices.
Jabber/XMPP invited the Jingle Protocol for Jabber Applications.
Google have included this in their Standalone app and the Plug-in for Web Browsers on both PCs and Mac (you can get this as a Standalone Plug-in or as part of Chrome)
More on this here This article has been changed several time in the recent months. It now claims a greater involvement by Google in writing the Jingle Library (Although now Google's version does not work with the others)
This tends to mean that using the web Login to Google to Chat also cannot video chat to other Jabber apps that are using Jingle.
If your Buddy is using iChat then check the Video Menu has two items to Enable Camera/Video chat and Microphone/Audio chats are ticked.
In the View Menu the Show Status Items should be ticked (Selecting them toggles the tick and the function On or Off)
It could be Internet speed but at this stage I would doubt this at this stage.

You can connect to internet.. that should be no problem.. but set wireless correctly.. using correct windows type names, not APPLE NAMES.. with spaces and illegal characters like apostrophe.
Use wpa2 personal security..
If you mean hard disk access.. that depends.. can galaxy tablet open a network drive..
Set the hard disk to windows name.. ie no spaces..
in file sharing, turn on the guest account to read and write access.
Put the correct workgroup into the TC.. generally WORKGROUP.
