Trying to set up a wireless guest network using Airport base station. The first network setup was fine but the second one doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I purchased the new Airport base station that allows for a wireless setup of a primary network and a guest network. The primary network installation worked great but I cannot get the guest network to work properly. Any suggestions on how to make it work?

The AirPort base station is designed to connect to a simple modem......not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished to users by Internet Service Providers.
So, the first troubleshooting question would be to find out what the make and model of the device that you call your "modem" might be.....to see if you have the right kind of product that will allow the Guest Network to operate correctly.

If your goal is to either extend the D-Link's Wi-Fi network with the AirPort or the other way around, then the answer is no. That is because, most non-Apple routers are not WDS-compatible with the AirPorts.

If you mean the hexidecimal equivalent of the alphanumeric password, then you can find this via the AirPort Utility, as follows:
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup
On the AirPort Utility's menubar select Base Station > Equivalent Network Password

Yes, Airport Express Base Station connected to your Mac by ethernet will work as a bridge. Or you can connect the AE directly to your router/modem by ethernet if it's a non-wi-fi router and it will act as a relay for that.

Choosing Airport Base Station on Extended Network

We have an extended network in the office with 2 base stations on diferent sides of a wall.
Is there a way to choose which base station a particular computer connects to?

Router A speed = 35Mbps (this is the primary router)
Router B speed = 2 Mbps (this is the one that is Extended)
When I go to Airport Utility, the Router B is listed first and then shown as connecting to Router A.
Both A & B are plugged into the wired network.
All computers, etc are up to date.

IF....the settings on both Apple routers are correct.....and
IF....AirPort Utility is working correctly.....
The two Apple routers will appear horizontally side by side with both devices displayed as connecting to the "globe" Internet.
Check to make sure that the Ethernet connection is established to both AirPort routers using the WAN "O" port on each device.
Using the Wireless tab in AirPort Utility, check to make sure that each AirPort router is set to create a wireless network using the same wireless network name, same wireless security settings and same password.
Check to make sure that each AirPort router is configured in Bridge Mode.
In this type of setting, Macs will automatically connect to the wireless access point with the strongest signal as they move from one area to another. This may...or may not occur with PCs, or iOS devices like an iPhone or iPad.
It is not possible to direct a wireless device to connect to a specified router unless you use a different wireless network name for each router and then manually "point" the device at the router with which you wish to connect.

For now, leave the AirPort Express powered off.
Power off the entire network....all devices.....in any order that you want
Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem first, and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a full minute
Keep powering up devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered up (leave the Express off for now)
Open AirPort Utility and check to see if the AirPort Extreme is visible.
If it's not, click the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left of the screen, then click About AirPort Utility. Post back with the version number of AirPort Utility that you see there....which should be AirPort Utility 5.6.1.

When Firefox tried to recover my two crashed windows, the first one was fine, but the second one only shows blank tabs, though their number is correct.

Just as it says in the description. I've looked through solutions for similar issues, but to no avail.
A funny thing is that in the "restore tabs" window that appeared after I tried to start Firefox again, it listed a number of my tabs among other blank tabs (of course they were not originally blank). None of these actually showed up, however. Confusing.

When you restored the window and clicked on the tabs that were blank, did the page show up? It could be that you have the do not load tabs until selected preference on. This can be changed in the Options/Preferences Menu.
However since the session is blank, it could also be that Firefox did not close properly because of a crash or a force quit. How did you quit Firefox before the session looked like this? Could you also show a screenshot?

Can only apple networks be extended using airport base stations?

My ISP provides a wifi network using a Tilgin product.
I have a time capsule and I was wondering how I can integrade my time capsule (for back up purposes) into this network.
Is there a way to extend this network using my time capsule? I know the options on the time capsule is "create a new network" or "extend a network" but what networksrcan be extended?

Correct. You can only extend an AirPort Express, Extreme or Time Capsule network with an AirPort Express, Extreme or Time Capsule. In this case, you can only connect the Time Capsule to the modem by Ethernet to get Internet connection

Unfortunately, Apple's "extend" feature is designed to only work with other Apple routers if you are trying to "extend" using wireless only.
It is extremely unlikely that this feature would work with a router from another manufacturer using wireless only.

Sorry but no the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) will not wirelessly connect to the network provided by the Verizon FiOS router.
What you could do is get another AEBS, an AX, or a Time Capsule and place that downstairs. Then use that device to wirelessly connect to the wireless network provided by your current AEBS. If your current AEBS is not 802.11n capable then you would need to use WDS to make this happen. One bad thing about WDS is that each WDS link cuts your affective wireless bandwidth in half.

Problems setting up airport base station

I have been trying to setup my airport extreme base station to. When I did it the first time, all of my lights were green on the left except for internet and server. I changed some things and now my AEBS can not be detected when I start from airport utility.
What do I do????

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

Unfortunately, this can mean one of two things:
1) The Express is locked up and will need a Factory Default Reset procedure to try to return the device back to its original default settings so that it can be reconfigured again.
2) The Express is defective. If you cannot get the Express back to a slow, blinking amber light after a Factory Default Reset, the Express will need to be replaced.
Try the Factory Default Reset a few times and report back on your progress.

Why would you need to ADD a new Client. Unless the APE sytem is completely different then any other Wireless router the printer should get an IP address from the router. That is IF the printer is setup to get an IP from the LAN DHCP server.
Now you may want to make that IP it does get a Staticly assign IP address so it never changes, which will screw up printing if it does change. But i don't know if you can do that with APE routers.

This might sound like a silly question, but are you sure the iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch etc.) are still trying to connect to the same network from your own Airport router, as the MacBook Pros are? If you tap Settings on them, is the network name next to where it says Wi-Fi, the right one?
I've got a weird feeling that either in the past couple of days, a neighbour got an Airport device and hasn't set it up yet (causing your iOS devices to try to help), or that perhaps there's an issue with your Airport router and they're noticing it and trying to help out, while for whatever reason, Airport Utility isn't opening itself on the MacBook Pros like it normally should if there's a problem.
If you open Airport Utility on one of the MacBook Pros, does it report any problems with your Airport device, and can you view/edit the settings on it?
