I'm trying to setup my new iPad2 - get message "This iPad cannot be used because Apple Mobile Device service is not started". What does this mean? I can't get anything up on my iPad. Frustrated!

I have tried the reset all content but I couldn't remember the password. Actually, I don't remember that I had one. How can I reset and operate it the latest OS? Thanks!

ive had this problem for quite some time now and ive tried everything!
ive reinstalled itunes, restarted my computer and went on administrative tools on my computer and started apple mobile device but it doesnt seem to be working and comes up with this message.
my computer software is windows vista home premium. and i have an Ipod touch 4th generation.
please advise best course of action on how i can resolve this as it iis nothing but a paper weight at the moment in time!
