Trying to share an XP printer in OSX
Hi,
Been messing with this for a while.
I've got a Canon MP160 that is connected to an XP machine via USB. The XP is connected to the wifi router, as is the iMac.
I've set the workgroup the same in the WINS section. I can get files off the machine, and I can add the printer.
So the printer is setup in OSX and when I select Print, it says Printing, then it will say complete. But there is nothing happening on the other end. I can print from XP just fine.
I have a feeling it is possibly a driver issue, as when I have to select a driver, there is no option for Canon, so I have to select "Generic Postscript Printer" ... I downloaded a DMG from Canon that is the driver package for the printer... it apparently installed but I don't know where the driver file is, so I can select it?
Arggghhhh...
Cheers for your help.
Solved with the classical shut down - re-start.

Trying to share a printer attached to a PPC Mac Mini
Hi all.
I'm reinsterting an old Mac Mini running OS X 10.5.8 as a headless print server. I can interact with it via other computers to share the screen, so my network protocol with the computer is sound. My problem is, I can't seem to print to any printer attached to this computer--this is obviously a problem, as that's the whole reason I've revived this device.
Sharing setup for all computers is complete and the client computers don't seem to have any trouble seeing the printer. But when I print to it, the job is sent VERY quickly (suspiciously so) from my clients (a Mac Mini Intel in the living room and a MacBook), and the PPC mini shows no indication a print job was ever delivered.
Any brilliant ideas? I'm sure it's something really basic I'm not remembering or thinking about, and I'm sure someone has already asked this question; feel free to direct me to that solution, as my searching efforts didn't produce anything that I felt was helpful--but I've been wrong before.
Thanks!OK then, please post a brand new question in the OS X 10.5.8 "Leopard" forum:
https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.5_leopard
I no longer have a Leopard system to test and I used my one brilliant idea for today.
A new question should solicit more interest. Hopefully one of the old guard can think of something. Reference this thread so they can read what you did so far: Trying to share a printer attached to a PPC Mac Mini
Edit: Before you go, can you print to this printer while directly attached to the other computers too? Make sure it's not a simple driver problem. Good luck!

Why does my computer restart when trying to print? OSX 10.8.3 epson 2200
I seem to have a problem on my macpro 3,1 3ghz, osx10.8.3 computer when i try to print. When clicking print in any program, it will automatically restart my computer. I've tried resetting the printer settings in system preferences, and when clicking plus to add the printer, it will restart again. The printer is an epson 2200.
I've downloaded the huge printers driver files again, and still nothing. Also tried to fix permissions and that didnt help.
Everything was working fine printing before osx 10.8.3.
Any help would be great. On the phone today with Senior Apple Tech guys for ovber an hour. I have a case number. They said they hope to have something by Saturday.
I will keep this forum posted if and when I get anything.
In the meantime USB is working just fine.
BTW, spoke with 2 Epson techs and they both said basically talk to Apple, and as far as they knew Apple wasn't supporting Fireire any longer.
It is true that the new machines do not have FW ports. Never the less, the printers were all fine on 10.8.2 and FW so obviously there was a slipup somewhere.
I have had Macs since day one. I consult quite a few photographers and architects on their computers.
In the last several years there have been very few problems, and none that I recall that brought down the whole system.
The old days, yes, but this really startled me. To say nothing of the promised print job I was starting!
Keep the faith that Apple will fix this, and quickly! -

So yeah...
I'm totally stumped now.
I feel like I've tried every method imaginable, but still no luck.
Printing from OSX 10.6.8 works just FINE.
On the server side, I'm running Windows Server 2008... there's only a local admin and a local user account.
Clients running OSX Lion 10.7.2 -- All updated.
Printer is an HP LaserJet P4010-4510 series.
Workstation is an iMac 21.5-inch, Late 2009
3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Please help!!!
--- RichardLPD print service is not enabled by default in Server 2008. It can be enabled via the Print Serveer role, but I am remote and cannot confirm the exact setting.
As for SMB, the error log is showing;
Failed to connect to "smb://<username>:<password>@utlab-prsrv-02/"
So it would suggest that there is still an issue with the account detail you are using as you show you have tried this syntax at one stage. If you want to continue to create the queue using SMB rather than LPD then I recommend using the CUPS web page (http://127.0.01:631) to create the queue. This will allow you to enter the syntax exactly as the error message shows. From previous testing I found it was okay to just use the account name rather than domain/account name on a domain bound server. -
Question:
When I sync with my iphone I get an error reporting message but the sync still works. After trying to download 10.6.3 Mac OSX Snow Leopard, this message appears every few seconds as long as Entourage is open. This continues until I quit Entourage. How do I turn this message off? It interferes with any other work I am doing. I appreciate any suggestions.I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck. -
Printer wakes OSX - annoying !
My plugged Printer wakes up OS X after a second of sleeping.
When the mac goes into sleep after a second it wakes up. The cause is the plugged printer.
When unplugging the printer the mac stays asleep.
Thats really annoying because that never happend before!
I only tryed to share my printer in the network with Windows XP.
This never worked, I don't know why.
After getting tired of sharing my printer I set al adjustments back.
Since this, the printer wakes the mac.....
I've tried everything I found in discussions but nothing worked.
I deleted plists, repaired filepermissions, installed combo update 10.4.11 again .... nothing worked
Thats really annoying me and I'm not willing to unplug the printer everytime I put the mac into sleep, because it worked before!
Please help me !
Something abot my hardware:
iMac G5 (without iSight)
OS X 10.4.11 (with all updates)
Canon Pixma iP4000 (USB, Driver Version 4.1.9)Considering you did not state what version of OS X you insgtalled it's a little tough to help you out. I'd start by using the Reset Printing System feature

Unable to share Epson R220 printer
Recently installed Epson R220 printer on OSX Panther. After installation discovered it would not install on my G3 with OS9. Additional research uncovered information that it may be possible to network G5 with G3 via Ethernet and thereby print from G3 to R220 installed on G5. I have followed G5 instructions in "Help" (disable printer share in OSX, opening OS9 Classic and enable printer share, etc.). "Chooser" still does not show R220 in Classic and therefore believe it is not be being "seen" by G3. Hope you have enough information. Look forward to your reply
G5x2 Mac OS X (10.3.9) G3 OS 9.2 ethernet connectionRegular (ie, simple) printer sharing doesn't work from OS X to OS 9 because they use different protocols.
If you have the same driver installed on both the G3 and G5 (Classic), you can share from OS X Classic to the G3 by installing and turning on the USB Printer Sharing Control panel (can be downloaded from Apple).
Connecting direct by ethernet requires setup, too. In Network Prefs (OS X) and TCP/IP Control panel (OS 9), set configure manually and enter these local IP addresses: 192.168.3.3 and 192.168.3.4. I don't know if appletalk is required for this protocol, but turn it on on both computers.
Another possibility is to use the Apple Desktop Printer Utility on the G3 to set up a desktop LPD printer. For that you need to share the printer in OS X Sharing Prefs, and write down/remember the OS X print queue name, found in printer Setup by clicking on show Info. Use "Apple Color LaserWriter" (any model) as the PPD/model in the OS 9/G3 setup. This means you will send postscript from the G3 to the G5's Epson print queue. The G5 will prepare the output (called RIPping) and send it to the printer.
Hope this helps. -
Trying to reinstall MX882 Canon printer after upgrading to OSX Mavericks. Printer will not print and I get a message "The system extension "/System/Library/
Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Try reinstalling it, or contact vendor for update."
What do I do and where is this extension?beverly216 wrote:

I would recommend you download and install the OS X 10.9.5 Combo Update.
That file is part of the operating system and it is located where the error shows, i.e. HD > System > Library > Extensions. It would seem that when you updated, this file and maybe others have not updated correctly. So running the Combo Update may help resolve this. -
Lost my username and password to log into print and share on my printer
i cant access my eprint and share on my printer hp envy 5532. i have forgotten my username and password.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello scoobby,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are trying to log into the ePrint and Share app that is installed on your ENVY 5532. I suggest that you log into your HPConnected account, delete and re-install the app. Doing this should prompt to assign new login information. Once uninstalled, restart the printer before re-installing the app.
Let me know the out come, cheers!

I am trying to install a new printer and I am not sure which application to use?
I am trying to install a new printer with the external CD rom drive on my MacBook Air. When I load the disc it is not allowing the program to run as it is stating that I have the wrong application to do so. How do I install things from the external CD Rom?
What model printer is it?
It is unlikely you need its installation CD-ROM at all.

I was trying to install a coupon printer software from a website and it seems to be stuck. It has been installing it for hours. When I click on the installer and try to quit it won't let me. Any suggestions on how I can stop this?
Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner and choose Force Quit. Look for the item that says Not Responding and force quit it.

I am trying to share calendars with my husband (using Google calendars). He can see my calendars, but I am having trouble seeing his. We both use iPhones. We both have company email addresses. I have had to install and uninstall my gmail info on my iPhone multiple times due to errors sending and receiving emails from my company email address on my phone. For some reason, all of my emails are getting stuck in my outbox when my gmail account is installed on my phone. When I delete it, my emails get sent automatically. This is really annoying! I would do without the gmail account, but I need to share calendars with my husband. How do I fix this?
If you have two-step verification turned on in your email account, you'll have to log in with a browser and turn it off.
