Trying to sort library by file type

Hey all, I'm trying to sort by file type so it can quickly arrange all the TIFF files together in one easy to see group. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong here, because it keeps just slightly rearranging my images, but not putting all TIFF together and all RAW together. They are still mixed, and I have to select by hand, which negates the purpose of sorting by file type for me.
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you, that worked. I guess out of sake of discussion though, is there not a way to just apply a view filter while in the library module to show only files of a certain type? Like in Bridge, how you can set a view filter for like... Anything. Am I missing something here? This seems like it should work too, because on the bottom of the screen there is a fly down menu that lets you select things like file type, extension, etc... Yet it doesn't seem to actually work as far as narrowing down what you are looking at in your window.

I'm trying to play a supported file type AVI on Quick Time Player but it won't play on my iMac v 10.6.8.
    Why?

I've just downloaded VLC player and it works like a dream. Forget the rest!

  • Pop-Up Option boxes aren't displaying when trying to save or open file types that have them.

Photoshop just becomes unresponsive until I use alt+f4 to close the invisible option dialogue.  As a result, I'm currently unable to do things like open PDF files or save JPEGs.  Any ideas?

I've checked all other available help databases, and I wasn't able to find this problem.  Partly because it's hard to describe, I don't even know what terminology to use.  But here is the information that thread recommended posting:
The exact version of the Adobe Application you are running: Photoshop CS5
Your Operating System details: Windows 8 64 bit
Amount of installed RAM: 16 GB
Amount of free disk space: 7 GB on the solid state that photoshop is installed on.
Make/Model of Video Card: Radeon 7870
The EXACT text of any Error Messages you saw: No error message involved, just invisible dialogue boxes whenever doing something that involves a dialogue box, like opening a PDF, or saving a JPEG.
    Precise symptoms of your problem:
We'll take saving a JPEG for example.  I go through the normal save as process, specify a file name, type, and location, and hit save.  Usually, a dialogue box would pop up here, prompting me to chose a quality level before the save.  Now, that dialogue box still pops up, but it's not on screen.  I can't interact with it, or find it with key commands (such as windows, shift, arrow, which should move it if it were on my other monitor), and I'm not able to do anything else with photoshop until I force close it with alt+f4.
Incidentally, I just found a solution to the problem, but I haven't fixed the problem yet.  I unplugged my second monitor, and the dialogue boxes appear as normal.  I have been using Photoshop on my primary monitor, though, when my second one has been plugged in, and I haven't been able to see these boxes on my second monitor.  Does anyone know how I could fix this such that I don't have to unplug my monitor every time I want to use photoshop?
    Thanks.

  • ITune file type

I have approximately 2,000 songs managed in by iTunes. Some have been downloaded as mp3 and others as AAC file types. Is there an easy way to seperate the library by file type?

Control-click on the column header. In the box that comes up, check File Type. This will add a column in iTunes. You can then sort on that column by clicking on the column header.

  • Configure File Type Associations dosen't work for users

    Hi EB,
Does anyones knows how to set the File Type Associations for users ? It works for me when i'm logged in as Admin but not as a user. When logged as user it always ask to configure the file associations when i open JDev and even with JDev open it does not set it. I tried to find an article about that but couldn't find any.
    I'm using :
    winXP SP3
    JDeveloper 11g TP4
and i've sets all rights for autentified users on the folders and subfolders of JDeveloper.
    Thanks

I tried going on tool>preferences>File Type .... and associate projets and source and applications files with JDev check marking "open with JDev"... it didn't worked as user... it's just not saving my settings while reopening it it's never saved... at least i've been able to associate it in my Admin account then i can go back in user account and select open file with in windows, choose JDev and check mark "always open that file with that program" only after that the association is saved in JDev... but still it open the Configuration file windows at startup with the ones i already opened with JDev checked... anyway that's not a big issue ... only that i can't save those settings by the JDev environement while logged in as a user...

    Hi Ravens Fan,
Thanks again for your valuable input. I replaced the string manipulation functions with a path control. I think it works coz I can see the waveform data, rms values etc. And then you said if it works, do a Path to String on that...and I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I attached a snippet of the modified vi. you may refer the original vi snippet in my previous email.
I appreciate it if you could help me again.
    Thanks.

  • Default file type for photosmart 7525

I am trying to find the default file type that is saved to a USB drive when scanning on the HP Photosmart 7525.  This is not my printer, I am just trying to help my sister who lives in another city and is not computer literate.  She scanned some pictures (or so she said, after I sent her the instructions from the manual after I downloaded it) to a memory card.  She is not sure what she is looking at from what she is telling me, it appears as the pictures were all saved to one PDF document. Does any one know if PDF is the default file type that scans are saved to on a memory card?  I cannot find the default file type mentioned in the manual.
    Thanks
    David

    Hi,
You can check from its software on your computer. For documents it's pdf and for photos it's jpg. But you have to select first.

  • Unassigning file type to application

I would like to find a safe way to restore the default assignments between file types and applications. For example, when trying to open a certain file type for the first time, I ask for "Get Info" on the file and it says open with <None>. Or if I double click the file, it asks what application I want to use.
Now assume I tell it an application to use. From then on the system will use that application for that file. Is there a way to "undo" that assignment without selecting a new application?
In other words, how can I get the system to go back to thinking there is no application assigned to that file or file type?

    Have you ever tried this?
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Then after the above download a utility such as TinkerTool System - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and use it to clear user and system caches and old log archives. Then reboot the computer.

  • Using Finder to locate specific file types....

Hi. I'm looking for bookmarks that may contain a particular word. Is there a way to filter my spotlight (or finder) searches just for a particular file type? I know you can sort results by file type, but it's rather just filter in the first place...

What kind of bookmarks are you referring to? For example, most web browsers these days have a search field in their bookmark manager so searching within the app might be easier than using Spotlight.
Also, new to Leopard, the Application "Help" menus use "Spotlight" now. So for example, entering a term in "Safari" > "Help" will bring up hits including matches in the "Bookmarks" and "History" menus. Something perhaps something similar will work for a programme that doesn't have it's own searchable bookmarks.
With respect to SpotLight, a search using "Kind" is "Other" and entering "bookmark" brings up some types of bookmarks (but clearly not all - I'm not sure what it's doing exactly). It's kind of cumbersome, but you could also add something like this to your query: 'kMDItemContentType:com.apple.safari.bookmark'...

  • Filter images in individual folders by file type

Bridge 2.1 has this feature and I find it extremely fast and speeds up my workflow when I want to view and select only images of a certain file type in an individual folder.
I know you can sort images by file type in Lightroom 1.1 in an individual folder but I find that filtering by file type is much faster with less scrolling.

Thanks very much for your reply.
You have been a great help and your suggestion, command clicking on the file type worked just fine to view only one file type in a folder.
I couldn't find any documentation to command click on the keyword to limit its search to the selected folder. Not in the Adobe help documentaion or Scott Kelby's book. I searched after your reply to my post.
To answer your last comment. Bridge, in the filter pane, automatically gives you a list of file types and the number of files of each type of the selected folder from the files metadata. You make a checkmark to the left of the file type to view only that file type. I'm sure you already know this.
Now that I know that I need command click on the file type, I can do the same thing in
Lightroom, that I can in Bridge. Just a different way to get the same result.
    Thanks again,Ian

Command F should do it. Once the search window appears, you should see a drop down box headed kind and next to it one headed any. Select PDF from the any one. Click the plus button, and another field will appear and you can see again more drop down boxes. You just want to set these up so you end up with name and contains, you can then add your text to the remaining field.

  • Since changing our computer I have been unable to download ebooks to my Reader Library I get a message Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library; Waterstones suggest that I may have accidentally created a new Adobe

When I try to download them from the Waterstones website I get a message saying:
‘Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library.  Do you want to associate them now?  When I reply yes I get another message; ‘Configuration error unable to update EPUB files check network firewall and try again’.
The ‘books’ are saved in the Download directory and I can’t transfer them from there to my E-Reader. I have not had any problems before, it was very simple; I saved the download and it automatically went into the Reader Library.
I contacted HP and they said it is a software error and suggested I contact Waterstones.  I contacted Waterstones Customer Support and got the following response:
As the error message is specifically mentioning the firewall it does sound like something in the firewall settings is stopping the download from taking place correctly. However, the files should not be being saved to the Download folder. It would be worth trying again by going to your Digital Order History on your Waterstones.com account and pressing the download button, and then making sure to press "Open" not "Save". When you press Open rather than Save it should give the option to open the file with Adobe Digital Editions. If the firewall message still comes up then I'm afraid something is blocking it on your end.
If the above "Open" download method works but you then still get an error message it could possibly be that you have accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up on the new computer, rather than signing in with your old Adobe ID. It would be worth trying the aforementioned download technique again first, but if problems did still persist it would be worth calling Adobe themselves on 0207 365 0735, as they should be able to sort out any account issue.
In response to the first para of Waterstones email I already do what they suggest I do press ‘Open’ not ‘Save’ but I don’t get the open with Adobe Digital Editions (we have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer. Waterstones say we may have ‘accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up the new computer’ does that mean that we shouldn’t have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer as it would have already been there? How do I sign in with my old Adobe ID?

Hi all after attampting to get some supoport from adobe by phone.... nice people infurating policys as far as support for digital editions or DRM is conserned... However I got no where with support.
I ended up instaling Digital editions on my desktop PC and going through the motions of registering and borrowing a book then returning it. Then I trying on my iPad, Bluefire worked, Over drive did not so I completely removed Overdrive and reinstalled and re registered. all working now.
Maybe some one at adobe did something. Maybe the install of the adobe DE client on a PC corrected what ever was out of wack with my account. Mayby the server that my account lives on did a scan disk and corrected a bad clustrer.
What ever happend My account is actiove and working again. hope this helps others.

  • Sort downloads by file name not type?

Wondering if anyone can help me here. I'm trying to either make a script or automator workflow that will sort my downloads by file name, not file type.
To cut to the point, I'd like say Reno 911, The Daily Show and the Colbert Report to go to a Comedy Central folder, My shows to go to my folder and my wife's to go to hers, just keep the downloads tidy as they come in instead of having to clean the downloads folder manually every day.
There a easy way to do this?

Why not have two separate user accounts - your's and your wife's. Then she can select her own download folder in Safari preferences, and you can select yours. Set up the folder to display in List View and click on the Name column as the sort column (twice for descending order.)

  • Some iTunes library files showing as an unknown file type - different files from same import...

Haven't been able to find a similar problem on here, but apologies if this is a repetition of another discussion.
Some of the files in my Itunes library popped up with the little exclamation mark next to them, so I attempted to locate them. It's been a patchy problem since transferring from PC to Mac, but has just been an issue of pointing Itunes to the right file.
However, in this instance when I navigate through to the files in the folder they aren't showing as the same file type as the music that is playing in the library - I just get a blank page icon.
What's confusing me is that these aren't different file types or from different sources. They're maybe 3 tracks out of a whole album that is playing fine, that were all ripped from the same CD at the same time.
I've no idea why the Itunes is seeing some of these files differently. Any ideas?

Looked at in the HD they're all showing as M4P. I'm sure it's the way the software is viewing the files, and not the files themselves. Itunes does offer to find the others, but then does a really crappy job of doing so - missing files in the same album in the same folder.
I've cracked the original file problem by pointing Itunes to the files by going through the MacHD route, so now I'm just wrestling with thousands of missing files that I know are sitting right next to the files that aren't missing!
I might just resign myself to ploughing through and fixing it, sorting the patchy artwork at the same time. If I do a purge at the same time I can convince myself that I'm not wasting my life!

  • How do I sort by file type?

I was wondering how I can sort by file type?  I have a bunch of .moi and .mod files in a directory and want yo delete the .moi files.  If I could sort by type, then it would just be a matter of highlighting those and deleting. I tried sorting by kind, but since they are seen as Unix Executable files by the OS, it sorts them but not by .moi or .mod.  Thanks in advance for your help.
    MAC OS 10.6.8

I don't believe you can sort by extension.  However, what you can do is to type .moi into the search field at the top of the Finder window where you see those files.  That will initially show all .moi files on your entire computer.  At the top of the displayed search results will the the text "Search:" followed by three choices.  "This Mac" should be selected, but the name of the folder you were looking in will be the second choice...  click that one.  That will cause the search results to contain only files from that folder, containing the text ".moi", which should be the ones you're interested in deleting.
