Trying to stay organised with Mission Control Grrrrrrr.....

I currently have Safari open in full screen mode and 8 windows = 8 spaces.
I have Preview in full screen mode and 3 docs = 3 spaces
I have iTunes, iPhoto, Reeder and iCal in full screen mode = 4 spaces
i have Finder on one desktop and Path Finder on another = 2 spaces
Therefore I have 17 spaces for 7 apps in total and its a complete mess
I want all windows for a specific app to be in the SAME destop space (you know, like Spaces in 10.6). I like to flick through all my open web pages using the old command ~ but it doesn't work.
Spend so much time going to mission control and hunting for the page or doc I want. This is ridiculus. I consider myself a power user and this is wasting so much time.
It's not that I'm resistant to change but it seems that Mission control is poorly thought out and implemented.
Am I doing something drastically wrong or is this what we're stuck with?

I like Snow better as well and YOUD of THUNK it that they could have given you the option to KEEP the other or not, why is it not a preference you can remove or add and let the user able to switch the settings on or off. They look similar and each has a unique gift, but I still choose Snow's... and MissionCritical would probably be better for me if Swipe actually worked... NOPE SWIPE does not work like a lot of other nifty stuff on my laptop.
I love when I need the full screen to use it, and perhaps if I had 4G instead of 2G it would be better to transition in and out but wait a second I'm sounding like a WINDOWS user --- is APPLE secretly planting ideas in our minds, or do they have the impression that there are so many new windows users the transition backwards won't hurt so BAD... SORRY I miss the day when a MAC just worked and a MAC you could PUSH and PUSH and PUSH and LOAD IT TO THE GILLLS and she'd still deliver that 25# baby. That's right, I'd have 4 browsers open with 20-50 tabs each and sometimes 70-100 tabs in one, usually always had 2-3 browsers with 40-100 open tabs and in and out of excel and word and pages, preview always open it seemed, mail open and closed many times with an occasional iMovie and a quicktime player open, yeah sure it bogged once and ahwile and it had a spinning wheel sometimes but I could see why --- Not with LION - Sorry - No Excuse.

Take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar and have them evaluate it.  This is a free service.  They may tell you what needs to be fixed and the associated costs.  You are no obligated to to have them perform the repairs.  But you will have a better understanding of the problem(s).
    Ciao.

  • Why does the CC Stay in my Mission Control?

The Creative Cloud still stay in my Mission Control..  Takes the space of my screen. Can you guys take it out of there? BTW the OneDrive app will not show in the Mission Control

Since it happens on 2 separate systems... which have been updated with the Combo updater... I don't think creating a new account will help... but perhaps I'll give it a shot when time permits.

  • Pb with mission control

    Hi,
I've a pb with mission control.
When I swipe three fingers up, I can't see my desktops. I can't see all the app opened.
However, when I swipe three fingers down, I can see all the windows of the same app.
I've tried to repair permissions and restart your computer, but it doesn't work.
Any ideas of what might have happened?
    Thank you so much

    Hi Clem's,
Since this is the only gesture you are having issues with, and the setting is enabled, then you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action

  • Maverick causing problems with mission control

    hi,
I have a early 2013 Mac book pro. I just upgraded to Maverick and I have been facing issues with mission control. When I swipe fingers up on touchpad to open Mission control, occasionally it lags. Basically the lagging is prevelant with swipe and pinch gestures on touchpad, the transitions are not smooth. Please help me fix it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kritarth

I'm not sure that what I'm seeing is this same problem, but it's similar. And worse.
I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch,Early 2013), and several times since I installed Mavericks both Mission Control and 4-finger swiping have stopped working completely. A restart always fixes them. They both fail at the same time--either both work completely, or both don't work at all.
I'm guessing there's a lurking Mavericks bug, somewhere.

  • Problem with mission control after 10.7.2 update

After I updated to 10.7.2, when I swipe into mission control then select a different app with the spacebar then swipe back out of mission control, the menu bar on the top does not switch to the new app, it stays as the previous open app. But, if I click on the new app instead of using the spacebar then the menu bar switches correctly. Is anyone else having this problem?

I have had the same issue since initial 10.7.0 install.  Doesn't seem to affect function at all.. but disconcerting nonetheless.  I have yet to find anything acknowleding the problem or how to fix it.

  • HT4689 With mission control in Mountain Lion, is there a setting that displays a document name when it is selected?

For example, if I have 4 word documents open, and go to mission control so they are all displayed, can I turn a feature on that displays the document name when my mouse is over each document?
Like in the picture, if I have my mouse over a document, the name of the document isn't displayed.  Can I change this?

    Hey!
I just got a new mac and was trying to figure out the same thing today!! I went from an older version to this 10.9.  I called apple support, the tech had no idea what I was talking about.  I was transferred to a manager who told me that it is not feature available on the new models.  After a 40 minute conversation I was about to let it go and then I saw this post and became determined LOL ... and I figured it out (SMH apple support).  So here is how you do you it:
system preferences > trackpad > you want to make sure the "App Expose" is checked off > and you're done!!
I am not able to upload a 2 photos so I will post a second screenshot of what it looks like once the preferences are set.

  • After installing Lion os I cannot see my desktop 1 nor can I see my open windows when I go to finder, I just get the grey/black background that comes with mission control. Any ideas as to how to solve this problem?

The top picture is what my Desktop 1 looks like. And the picture below is what my desktop looks like after clicking mission control. Ive tried changing wallpapers, changing preferences, etc. and I still can't figure out what's wrong. As you can see, on mission control you can't see any of the open windows, or anything that I have placed on my desktop. Any ideas as to how to solve this issue?

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • Problem with Mission Control

I've just installed the Safari 6.1.1 and iTunes 11.1 updates. For some reason this seems to have affected Mission control on my computer (late 2011 Macbook pro running Mountain Lion).
I can now no longer highlight and select the large desktop window in Mission Control (the one that open apps appear above). This is really annoying as it makes navigating around much more of a hassle now.
Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried repairing Disk permissions already. Thanks.

I'm surprised that given the usual hysteria over anything new that Apple brings out Apple didn't realise that providing this upgrade solely via a downloading method may cause a few problems upon its release!!

  • Dictation interferes with Mission Control - MC shortcuts stop working

I just started using dictation about a week ago, and, although it works great, it seems to be interfering with the Mission Control shortcuts (F9, F10, etc.). The shortcuts just stop working, often after Dictation shows some stuttering (short episodes of freezing, or an inability to switch languages). They never malfunction when I don't use Dictation. After restarting the dock with osascript -e 'quit application "Dock"' everything functions normally, but it gets annoying when you have to do that 10 or more times a day. Does anybody know what's going on or maybe have a fix?
    Specs:
    27" iMac, late 2009
Processor  3,06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OS version  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
I should probably also mention that I'm using enhanced dictation, and that I've loaded two languages, English and German.

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Help with mission control

when i open up mission control, you know how u see apps on the top? how do i get apps up there? id appreciate help.

Open an app on any desktop. Then when you start Mission Control the app will be in one of the desktops shown at the top.
To move the app to another desktop, click and drag it to whichever position you want it. To insure that it stays on that desktop, go down to the dock and right click on the app. Then select the "Options" and check on the "This desktop".

  • Assign a Set Order with Mission Control to Full Screen Apps (On Startup)

Mission Control is great (not as good as Spaces as I enjoyed being able to go down as well as side to side to switch apps).
For me, I like to have all my apps arranged in a particular order so I can know how far I need to go to get back to whatever app I'm looking for. However, when I start up my computer, Mountain Lion seems to arrange it in its own order, the same everyday but not what I had arranged the previous day.  I arrange it back to the way I like it, and all is good until I restart when Mountain Lion rearranges it back to this other order.
I turned off the "arrange as I use" feature.
I know you can assign desktops to apps - but it doesn't seem like full screen apps can be assigned an order.  Is this just something I gotta deal with?  Is there anyway for Mountain Lion to just restart my computer as I had it?  Why does it choose their order over mine?  What's informing the order?

I have this too and have looked for a fix without any luck. I do have a workaround though.
On the remote machine open System Preferences > Mission Control
Select a hot corner from the list to activate mission control.
When you mouse over that corner on the local machine Mission Control will pop up.
Also the keyboard shortcuts will enable you to enter Mission Control if they are assigned differently on the two machine. For example I have ^↑ (Control Up Arrow) assigned on the remote machine to enable mission control but I use the mousepad on the local machine.
I'm still looking for a better solution and will come back if I find one.

  • I am having problems with an older ipod running 1.1.2 firmware trying to use earbuds with volume controls made for ipod. any suggestions?

I am problems with an older Ipod classic running 1.1.2pc using earbuds with Ipod inline remote. The earbuds work fine with my new Ipod but not the older one. Any suggestions?

    1) This is because of software version 1.1. See this
thread for some options as to how to go back to 1.0,
    which will correct the problem...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=3754
    59&tstart=0
    2) This tends to happen after videos. Give the iPod a
minute or two to readjust. It should now be more
    accurate.
    3) This?
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation
    point
    4) Restore the iPod
    5) Try these...
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo and Will Not Start
    Up
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo
I think 3,4, and 5 are related. Try the options I
    posted for each one.
    btabz
I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again

  • Does mission control interfere with mail?

I was experimenting with mission control. I had 2 desktops declared. I tried to use mail but it hung. I had to force-quit. Is there some incompatibility between multiple desktops and mail, or was it just a coincidence?
By hanging, I mean that messages were listed on the left side but did not appear on the right; the application did not respond when I clicked anything. It started when I clicked "get mail" and it took forever; no messages appeared. I quit from the menu. I could not get back in successfully (my memory is fading now); I must have gotten back in to observe the frozen state. I tried to shut down, but the system complained that I had to quit mail first; could not quit; had to force-quit.
After force-quitting I was able to shut down. Fired the system back up; got back in; activated mail; it paused for a long time (2-3 minutes), then proceeded to act normally.

This does not appear to be a question, so please send your feedback to apple.com/feedback and go back to snow leopard if you must

  • Mission control is a disaster.

    A suggestion/request:
I gave "mission control" a good try. I really tried to get used to it, over several months.  I'm kicking myself for ever upgrading to Lion -- all because of "mission control".  It is a complete disaster.
Apple doesn't like to admit their mistakes, and I have no confidence that they'll ever re-release Spaces and Expose for lion.
We need a developer to write a replacement that reproduces the unctionality of Spaces and Expose as they were in Leopard.
Especially with regard to multiple monitors and windows with dissimlar applciations.
For example, I'm a non-fiction writer, and I frequently have multiple windows open simultaneously - Firefox, Keynote, Scrivener, TextEdit and Finder, for example.  When I'm doing research, writing, juggling paragraphs, arranging data, etc. I need all these apps open and with several windows visible at the same time. Full screen mode is useless to me, and I use a three monitor set-up (Mac Pro, triple 30 inch monitors -- My vision is weak, so my fonts are large).
I may have several windows overlapping (a web page about hydroelectric storage, text windows with notes I took at a conference, a spreadsheet, for example) and Expose would show me all these windows so that I can quickly and easily find what I need, and not have to remember which **** application I happened to have that information in.
With Spaces I could move from any of four desktops to another in a single keystroke. I could "zoom out" and then launch Expose, AND then move windows from one desktop to another, and one screen to another, AND do this to as many windows as I needed to befor zooming back in to a specific desktop.
Mission control is a disaster.  To move a window from one desktop to another I have to first find that window via multiple keystrokes or swipes, go to that desktop, zoom out, then move that window to another desktop and zoom back in.  I have to repeat this process for every window I need to move.
My workflow has been seriously crippled since I upgraded to Lion, and if I hadn't stupidly upgraded most of my applications, I would have already re-installed Snow Leopard. I may do this anyway, if I can figure out how to recover the old versions of my documents and data. Unless someone will save me the trouble by developing a replacement for Spaces and Expose.
How about it. How many of us would pay $20 or more for it. Personally, I'd happily pay $100 for it. Considering how much time it will save me from downgrading to Snow Leopard, $100 is a bargain.

My configuration, workflow, and issues with Mission Control (MC)     are apparently similar to yours.
I encounter the problem of moving windows almost exclusively at     an unavoidable weekly site maintenance shutdown. When I start up     again, Firefox windows previously scattered among desktop/workspaces     are now all in just one.  It takes a few minutes to divvy them out      to their previous places, which is a pain.   The mouse-down+spacebar     magnification feature helps -- when I remember to use it.  When     there are lots of such windows, I find sorting through them     difficult, especially because I find it difficult to segregate out     those windows that need to stay in the current desktop/workspace.      However:  maybe the primary issue is with Firefox, not MacOS.  I     need experiment further.
I find using the trackpad to change from one desktop/workspace     to another to be unacceptably inconvenient. Mostly, I depended on a     one-to-one correlation between each desktop/workspace and the     primary application I use, which I assign to that space.  (Hang on,     I'll address the problems with this in a moment.)
During my workdays, I hardly ever swipe the trackpad to get into     MC; I  switch workspaces by clicking on the primary app in the dock.     (Full disclosure:  if you read some of my other posts, you'll     discover that this obscures a more complex reality of some shameless     software hacking I did, but that's a separate discussion.)
OK, now, about the problem of assigning a “flagship” app to     each workspace:  Yep, you got it, it's totally wrong in the case of     one app that's required for two or  more completely distinct     projects.   In my case, Adobe Dreamweaver is the central app for 3     of my 9 defined desktop/workspaces.   So far I simply haven't found     an alternative to folding these projects into one desktop/workspace,     which seems like going backwards.
Even so, I still feel that MC represents progress, because at     least I can use it to completely separate out the other  6      projects, getting them completely out of my way when I'm not working     on them.
I'm also willing to cut Apple some slack on the MC     implementation after reflecting on how difficult  I would find it to     give MC sufficient information to do better, both in terms of      initial configuration and moment-to-moment use.  I can think of a     way to modify the Dock options submenu to assign Dreamweaver to two     different desktop/workspaces,  with a  possibly unacceptable     increase in submenu length. But I can't figure out a satisfyingly     brief way to specify “ I want to work with Dreamweaver in     Workspace 2  --not Workspace 5-- now.”   Nor  can I figure     out how to deal with transient situations in which I need to use     Dreamweaver for a few minutes for a totally unanticipated purpose.      I'm certainly not going to want to define a new desktop/workspace.
Likewise, a file (or group of files) that is long-term pertinent     to Workspace 3 now may required for  Workspace 7 tomorrow -- for     about one hour only.   How to communicate that?     Or  if     --shudder-- a file or group is equally required simultaneously for     both workspaces?
You and I know the context of each app and each file, what     projects we are doing, and how these vary over time.   For the     moment, there just doesn't seem to be any practical way to     communicate all this to a computer  within the overall “desktop”     model.
In the meantime... I'm hoping that Apple will open up MC  by     making it scriptable.
