Trying to subtract a complex path from another, can't get the result I need

I'd really appreciate some help on this. I'm not familiar with illustrator and am stuck trying to accomplish what I hope is an easy task. I've uploaded my .ai here just in case anyone can help.
I have two layers, one is a collection of lines/paths which make up a line drawing of a tree, then the layer above that is a bunch of paths using a 'distressed' brush. I've read several tutorials on using the pathfinder tool to subtract one from the other but every time I'm left with way more of the tree deleted than I want. I tried a simple test case (subtracting a single distressed path from a rectangle shape) and it worked as expected. I don't know why this one isn't working other than maybe it's just too complex.
On the left (tempoary red background) is what my layers look like, on the right is the effect I'm trying to achieve (the white parts removed from the black parts). I need this to end up being a vector so it can get cut out of a vinyl decal.

That worked perfectly, thank you. I selected everything on the tree layer, made compound path, then did the same on the texture layer. Then the subtract worked great.
Just so I understand what's going on here - make compound path means take all the selected stuff and make it into one single shape/path, vs. having a bunch of separate paths on the same layer?

You need to post code that actually has the problem.
Given that you are using names, rather than indexes, usually the problem is that the name doesn't match what is actually in the meta data. Try printing the meta data. And try using indexes just to verify that there is in fact a result (which would be another reason for not getting it.)

Mainly in the code snippet from the second URL I could find that this is nothing but a variable.
for example vWinCal above , is a local variable which points to the calendar above.
similarly gWinCal is a global Calendar-Window object and nothing more.
You were not able to find it - since you will not find much of code level variable definitions
anywhere.
It is everewhere used as a object only which has reference to the calendar window.

Trying to make a disc.img from an iMovie project get the mssage that some of the audio clips are not available. The clips still show as green bars in the project but do not play.

I successfully made a disc.img and then burned a DVD of the project but found an error in a title. Went back to the project, corrected the error, and tried to create a new disc.img but got the message that some of the audio tracks were unavailable. They still show as green bars in the project but do not play. Tried deleting and reinstalling them with no success. They do play in iTunes and in the iMovie editing pane

Look for it in the folder stated below:

SDK_Add_On_Registration
If you cannot find it or do not have this folder, then search for the filename "AddOnRegDataGen.exe" on your product cd.
If you still cannot find it, contact SAP. I do not think it is available for download.

I felt the path of the file is wrong instead of D:/jdevhome, the path in above shows :/D:/jdevhome/jdev.

I'm trying to compile a .java file from another .java file using Runtime.exec...

If anyone can help me in atleast getting the command prompt when Runtime.exec("cmd.exe") is executed...that would be great...I tried out notepad.exe, calc, explorer instead of cmd.exe...all the commands display their respective windows..except cmd.exe...the command prompt doesnt appear...
Please help me ASAP....
