I recommend an external drive to maintain your music. All your purchases are held in iCloud...so redownloading should be easy. Also, Home sharing is a great way to transfer to a new computer, but in the case of hard drive failure your options are limited. Home sharing is specifically for transferring to another pc. It is telling you that you need to install the latest version of itunes on your computer, not your iphone
Itunes is bult into the iphones operating system. You do not download itunes at all on your iphone.

Both my iPods and my iPad are freezing up at the same spot why trying to sync with iTunes. What's going on?

Several times and with several different iPods I've been trying to sync with iTunes and it gets to 653 of 661 and freezes up. Nothing will work I have to power down and reboot. Even if I do a smaller selection with just a few songs it is freezing up a few songs away from finishing. I've updated and run diagnostics, now both my iPods are empty and I can't figure out what to do next. Can anyone help me out here?

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

HT1386 I have a new Iphone 5. Have downloaded 6.0.1 am in the process of syncing with itunes and it is taking hours to sync. I do backup to the cloud. I synced my iphone4s to computer prior to plugging iphone 5 so the latest data would be on system.

I have a new iphone 5. Trying to sync with itunes on my computer. Prior to plugging in new phone i made sure my other phone had synced with computer so all data was current. My old iphone does sync with cloud. When i plug in my iphone 5 for syncing it gets to step 5 and continues on for eternity...it has never completed syncing. This has been over a hour. Any ideas...ps old phone 4s backed up to cloud also and syncs would only take a minute or 2.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

I do not think it included audio books.

I tried to update my ios(mine is 7.1.2) and it states that the iphone update server could not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. Likewise when I try to update my iTunes through the help column(check for updates), it also says the same thing as when I try to update my ios on iTunes. Please help!

iPhone 4s reboots many times when trying to sync with iTunes.
Since IOS 8, my iPhone 4s reboots many times when trying to sync with iTunes on my Mac. It will start running the backup and reboot, it will reboot many times when updating packages. It can take 12 hours to finish a sync with the mac. The phone gets hot during this. I keep deleting more and more pictures and apps, hoping that maybe it doesn't have enough space, but iTunes shows I have 4.9 Gbytes free, which I think should be enough. I am on IOS 8.0.2, I thought maybe I would try to upgrade to the latest IOS today, but I am worried that I will end up with a non working phone.
Is anyone else having these problems?

Well thats Od... I have never experienced that problem.. Maybe you should try to backup your phone and then wipe it by going to Settings<General<Reset

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

Restart your computer
While your computer is restarting, clear all of the applications from the background on your iPhone. You can do this by pushing the home button twice and swiping the programs off the screen by pushing them upwards.
After you are done doing that, restart your phone.
Wait about 10 seconds or so and turn your phone back on. By the time you get your phone back on your computer should be completly restarted and ready to go.
When your phone is back on, plug it into your computer. This should automatically bring up your Itunes, you may get another pop up that says autoplay, you can close that out. That's it. I hope it helps and good luck

Syncing with iTunes and now my iPhone is like locked and is stuck on the cable pointing towards iTunes and emergency call.

Syncing with iTunes and then asked if wanted to update the software version and i clicked yes (update). when update was nearly finished a screen showed up on itunes with an error say " the sim card insertted in this iPhone does not appear to be supprted"
when disconnected and connect it back to the computer - it still shows the same thing. (sim card not compatible with iPhone)
now my iphone is stuck/ frozen on a screen showing a cable pointing towards itunes and emergency call.
now my iPhone itself won't let me go to the home screen (with or without my sim card.)

It is - came over from a Droid (was a former 3G user)... forgot how smooth and seamless the iPhone experience was. The Droid was nice, and Android is interesting, but the iPhone is so much simpler and easy. I hacked the heck out of the Droid, and it's so nice to be back on a smooth, "just works" phone.

Hi,
USB recovery disk was used to recover your system when it encounter problem. You can try to use it to fix your problem instead reinstall system. However, there is no method to keep your program whenreinstall system.

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?
