Trying to transfer m500 to Mac OS X 10.4.11 from windows

I am not very computer literate- so be patient.
I am trying to use my Mac to manage and Hotsync my old m500. I am moving from a PC
My Mac doesn't recognise the software disc I got with the handheld.
I have downloaded PalmDesktopMac421EN.sit but when I click on it I am asked to chose an application...this must be basic but I am lost. I then downloaded filemanager_enUS.sit and have the same message.
Any help would be great - talk me through it simply with minimal jargon. Thanks

You need some software called stuffit expander to open the installer you downloaded. This is available free as a download from http://my.smithmicro.com/downloads/trials/downloads.html and will download as a .dmg file the will mount as a removable disk on your desktop when you double-click it. The follow the instructions to install it. When you've done this you can go back to the palm software you downloaded and it should open straight off. If it does ask for you to choose an application like it did before, click on 'choose application' and find where you installed stuffit (probably in your applications folder) and select stuffit expander. It will then decompress the palm package and create a folder in the same place as the folder you downloaded the palm installer into. In this folder you should find an application called Palm Installer or something similar. Open this and select an 'easy install', probably into your applications folder or wherever you prefer. Then click install and wait. When it's finished you can open palm desktop from the location you installed it and start setting up your hotsync settings.
Hope this helps

  • HT1296 I am trying to transfer all of my music, photos, movies and apps from my IPAD to a new computer I just purchased for home use.  Currently I have been using a work computer.  How can I do this?

I got a new computer for home and I am trying to transfer all of my music, movies, photos and apps from my IPAD.  I have been using my work computer ofr this in the past but want to change to my new home computer.  I can't figure out how to do this without erasing everything from it.

This is an extract from one of our senior participant; hope he doesn't mind me reproducing it here
    Syncing with new computer
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • After trying to install the new update, I am getting a message from Windows saying that an MC file is missing, reintall Itunes-which I have now done 3 times. How do I fix this?

I received the new update from Itunes and after installing, I couldnt get into my Itunes.  I get a message from Windows saying that an MC file is missing and  to reinstall I tunes.  I have reinstalled 3 times, the first time I didn't remove the old version, I installed the update over it.  Next I tried the repair function under Control Panel.  After that, I uninstalled Itunes and reinstalled again from the website.  I still get the same message about missing files from Windows.

Reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service:
    1. Disconnect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod from the Mac.
    2. In the Finder, locate iTunes in the Applications folder and drag it to the Trash.
    3. Move the iTunes icon to the Trash.
    4. Choose Go > Go to Folder.
    5. Enter /System/Library/Extensions and click Go.
    6. Locate the file AppleMobileDevice.kext and drag it to the Trash.
    7. Choose Go > Go to Folder.
    8. Enter /Library/Receipts/ and click Go.
    9. Locate the file AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg and drag it to the Trash. If prompted, authenticate with the administrator password.
    10. Restart the computer.
    11. Choose Finder > Empty Trash and restart the computer.
    12. Download and install the current version of iTunes.
    13. Connect your device to the Mac again and open iTunes & see if you can sync now.
This will not affect your iTunes library.

  • Mac can't display some images from Windows .doc files.

I've opened .doc files written in Windows Word in Pages 2009, Mac Word 2008 and Mac Word 2011 and they all fail to show some of the images within these documents. When I open these files in Windows Word, they show up just fine. Why aren't the Macs showing them properly?

Try downloading OpenOffice or LibreOffice and opening them in one of those. They do a better job of importing Word documents than Pages. Once you've got them open, you can save them as RTF and load them into Pages. Pages is nicer to work with, but OO/LO (basically the same application) has better features.

Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?
Any computer is compatible as long as it can read and write Office files. But for perfect (or at least near perfect) compatibility, you would want to purchase Office 2011 for Mac.
How can I transport from Windows to Mac?
You can't directly transport any installation of Windows. All PC's come with a machine specific version of Windows intended for that PC. They don't have all of the hardware drivers the retail disks cover.
If you want Windows on your Mac, you would first purchase a full version copy (NOT an upgrade disk) of Windows 7 or 8. Those are the only supported versions on newer Macs. You install it through the supplied Boot Camp utility that comes with the Mac to create a new partition for Windows, and then install the retail copy of Windows you purchased.
The reason only these versions of Windows are supported is the same basic reason as a machine specific version of Windows for a PC. Apple only includes the necessary Mac hardware drivers for Win 7 or 8 on new Macs.
Once Windows is installed, you could then install the version of Office for Windows you already own. The nuisance of a Boot Camp partition is that you have to physically boot to either Windows or OS X, so you can only use the apps of the OS you're in at the time. To use both at once, you'd have to use virtual machine software (Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox) and then install Windows within that. Then you'd be able to run Windows inside of OS X and have access to both at the same time.

  • External Hard Drive (from windows to Mac)

    Hi Mac users!
I just moved from Windows to Mac and I'm very glad I made the switch. However, I am having some issues with my Win-Mac transistion. I have 3 external hard drives that I used under Windows to keep backups of my videos and personal files. Out of the 3 external hard drives, only one is recognized by OS X (10.5). I really need the other 2 to be recognized to transfer some more data to my new Mac system. Could you please help me to figure out what to do??
Here are some information on my 3 externl hard drives:
1 is a WD My Book (working fine)
1 is a La Cie Porsche model (Not working)
1 is a Ximeta (Not working)
I tried several USB ports, USB hubs. I have checked the Utilities to make sure the hard drive is not recognized/detected. Please, i need help to recover some important information and to complete my Windows-Mac transistion!
    Thank you for your help!

I had to ask...I also have to ask, when you tried a USB hub, was it an externally powered hub? Sometimes a USB disk won't mount because there isn't enough USB power. However, Mac OS has always given me an explicit message to that effect...
If your LaCie came with a CD, you might use it to install drivers. In principle, that shouldn't be necessary, but is a possibility. If it is a drivers issue then you may be SOL for the Ximeta; glancing at their website--but not necessarily for the right product--they seem to claim that their hard drives require Windows. But I've never had to install drivers on a Mac to use an external hard drive.
It shouldn't be an NTFS issue because NTFS is still readable, just not writable, as you already observed with the WD. The filesystem(s) should still mount.

  • Can't see mac library from windows iTunes

    Hello!
I switched on home collection to synchronize library between Mac and Widows iTunes. I can see and open Windows library from my Mac. But i can't from Windows. It doesn't show Mac library.
And how i can select main library? Or i will have same data in both iTunes?
    Thank you

Please see windows 8 does not recognise Macintosh HD, No drive Letter.
You can verify if you have CoreStorage by executing diskutil cs list in OS X Terminal.

I have I tunes and photos in pictures in my mac OS 10.8.5.  I am trying to transfer them by backing up with a stick to my HP, windows 8?

    Hey carolmonline,
Thanks for the question. For iTunes, see this article for information on transferring your library to a new computer (via the external drive option):
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
For your photos, it sounds like they are located in your Pictures folder. You can simply copy the photos to a new folder on your external drive for transfer to your new computer.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

The file was corrupted somewhere along the way (assuming it was still readable on the Macintosh).
The platforms don't matter, but you still need file transfer that doesn't corrupt files...

If you see Devices in the big list on the left-hand side of iTunes, it should show the name of your iPhone right below it. You can right-click (or hold ctrl and left click) on the name of the iPhone there, and choose "transfer purchases from iPhone".
If you're on iTunes 11, you won't see the big list of the left until you go to the View menu at the very top (where you see iTunes/File/Edit/View/etc) and choose Show Sidebar. Then do the same thing: right-click or ctrl and left-click on the iPhone's name below Devices and "transfer purchases from iPhone".
It'll ask you to authorize the computer for your Apple ID if you haven't yet; to do that, you just type your Apple ID and password in when it asks. If it says you are not authorized but doesn't automatically give you an option to do so, then you can go to the Store menu at the very top and choose "authorize this computer".
