Trying to Transfer Quark to a new Mac

I have a new Mac. Both the new Mac and old Mac have Lion.
I am trying to transfer QuarkXpress to the new Mac.
I get an error message on the new Mac that it can't be done because I don't have permission to read the file.
On the old Mac I went into Preferences Sharing and selected applications and set it to allow anyone to read and write. When that didn't work I specfically added QuarkXpress and selected it to be read and written by anyone. Still it doens't work.
I don't have the install disk for Quark...i think it was a download.
Thanks for any assistance.
Jon

If that is the Power Macintosh 7200 mentioned in another post, remember that CD-RW discs do not work with many older Macs. Use CD-R. Try burning at a low speed.
The only file system recognised by Macintosh computers running operating systems earlier than 8.1 is HFS (Standard). Do not use HFS+ (Extended) under these circumstances.

I backed up my old core 2 duo imac and and was trying to transfer files to my new 2011 imac and when i go to oppen a folder from what i transferred it says "The folder “Music” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents".  Why cant i access the files from my old mac?  I tried the time machine and that isnt working either.  I have files that I need to use on my new mac, all my old programs and such.  I thought they said it was easy to get your files from one mac to another.  Please help.

Your account names are probably different on the two Macs. If you know the UNIX command line, open a terminal window and run:
    $ id
You should see a line that starts with something like this:
    uid=501(your_user_id_here)
now check the owner of the folder you copied over:
    $ ls -ld Music
    drwx------+ 8 some_user_id_here  staff  272 May 14 16:08 Music
Do the IDs match? If not, you could change the ownership. Say your id is "johnsmith"
    $ chown -R johnsmith Music
Now try and access it with iTunes.

Did you downgrade iTunes? What version is listed in Help> About iTunes?
If you don't have iTunes 10.5.2, download it from here -> http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you have iTunes 10.5.2, try re-creating your iTunes library.

    From About Windows Migration Assistant:
Outlook and Outlook Express contacts, and Windows Contacts from the Contact home directory are transferred to Address Book.
Migration Assistant will create a new user account and copy things into it.
If you want to put them into an existing user account, see the Manually Migrating section of Switch 101: Migrate your Windows files or system to your Mac, especialliy the Tip, "export PC contacts to vCards, and import them into your Mac Address Book"

  • I am trying to transfer my photos from old mac to new mac.  I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!  What happened?

And how do I turn off FACES?

I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!
According to you youo did not do what I instructed - you said you imported the old library into th enew library which can easily take a 2000 photo library and turn it into 12,000 including two ro three versions of each photo pus all the face thumbnails
The correct procedure has NO importing involved
drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac
    That is it

  • Itunes says my music files are 6gb, my user/itunes music folder says its 23gb. I am trying to move it from old/new mac with 8gb ipod

I am trying to move my sons  library to his new mac using his 8 gb i pod as a hard drive.....
itunes 9.0.1  says his music files is only  6gb.  But when I go to transfer his itunes folder it says his music folder is 23gb.  I know I can home share transfer but his wireless is down.  Either way I am wondering
    1)  why is Music folder so large compared to my music library?
2.) Can I simply move the 6gb of music and the playlist info etc....using his 8gb ipod?
3.) Can I delete his previous library files ?

No, I have the music I want to move from the laptop to the phone selected. Then I go under file, devices, and try to click sync but it is not available to click.

  • Trying to transfer songs from PC to Mac using home sharing.

I just bought a new Mac and am trying to get my songs from the PC to the Mac. I managed to transfer the songs using Home Sharing, but, when I tried to add the songs to my Library in iTunes, any songs that were not purchased on iTunes (burned from a CD, etc) are greyed out, will not play, will not delete. What gives? Is Apple trying to make me buy my entire library on iTunes?
I'm trying to get these songs to my Mac so I can wipe the music on my iPhone (which was linked to my PC) and manage the music on my Mac. It doesn't seem I'm able to do that either. Does this have something to do with the PC.
    THANKS!

When using home sharing you must use the same Apple ID on both machines. It does not mattter what apple id the machine uses to login to iTunes with.
Then you can click on the orange house icon in Shared in the left sidebar of itunes. Select what to import and click import at the bottom right

  • I have a Toshiba external hard drive that i used to back up my Windows 7 HP -- I want to transfer files to my new Mac and it won't accept. Help?

I have a Toshiba external hard drive that I used to back up my Windows 7 HP -- I am not able to get the files off of it (pictures) onto the Mac. I am NOT a very technical person. IS there a simple easy way to explain and do this -- OR a simple way to just say it is not possible?

If you connect the external hard drive to your Mac does it show up in the Finder? If so, do the files you are trying to transfer show up? What happens when you try to move them over?
What kind of Mac are you using and what operating system does it have running on it?
Let us know, we'll keep helping you.
    Best of luck.

  • I'm trying to download CS5 on my new mac, .dmg says its not recognized.

I am downloading from the official adobe site. http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html
I have had a pc version for a couple of years and i just got a new mac. I have a license that I can transfer, but the software isn't downloading correctly?

If you're planning to use your CS5 Windows serial number to license CS5 on your Mac then it won't work.
Creative Suite serial numbers are licensed per operating system. So Windows serial numbers will not work on Macs and vice versa.
Platform swaps are available (to swap Win to Mac or vice versa) but it only applies to CS6.
Order product | Platform, language swap
You'll either have to upgrade to CS6 for Mac (known as a crossgrade) or join the Cloud.
Or run virtualisation software such as Bootcamp or Parallels on the Mac and install the Windows version in a Windows environment on the Mac.

  • Transfer setting to a new (Mac) Computer

Hi. I just got a new Mac. How do I transfer the settings
(FTP, site locations, etc) from DW on my old computer, to my new
one? Both versions of DW are the same.
    Thanks!

Well, it may be too late for this, but the easiest way to set
    up a new mac
is to just connect it to your old one via FW during set up to
    transfer
    everything.
Otherwise, you can import/export them individually:

  • Transfer from old to new Mac impossible

I can't transfer the information from old G5 to a new Mac Pro 8 core. Using T mode, as described, transfer doesn't occur after two hours at all. There is a window "Transferring information" but nothing happens. Using SuperDuper! or Migration Assistant from OS10.4.10 to copy the entire bootable volume from the external HD, is impossible. However, it's possible to copy the old volume to a second, non startup disk, but without libraries, which is worthless.
Do I have to manually transfer the libraries to the new computer in order to use the old applications? It's going to take for ever. I have no idea why the simple transfer from the old Mac to the new doesn't work as advertise.
    Milan

When you booted up the new machine the first time, did you use the migration assistant? If not, you might want to try using the Restore disk and restore the Mac Pro to its factory state. Also, take a look at:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773 and A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs. Those should get you started in the right direction.

  • HT1229 How I can save my EVENTS of IPhoto , from my old Mac ,  in my external disc to transfer it into my new Mac

    Hi, i need help !
I need to save All my EVENTS of iPhoto in my external hard disk, to transfer the EVENTS to my new Mac .
Please help! When I try to do it the name as I organice it disappear.
    How can I do it?

You need to transfer your iPhoto Library intact as a single entity - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
