Hi I am trying to unlock my old iphone 4s as i have upgraded and want to give ti to someone. they are on another provider and have a new registered sim. My provider is telling me to complete the unlock i need to connect to my old phone to my itunes account and a prompt should appear. It doesnt! it just syncs like normal. any help would be appreciated

kiltedtim your a star. should have asked you two days ago instead of the tech team for my provider.

Iphone 4 is stuck. I have tried a master reset and it didn't work. it won't slide to unlock or power off. I did somehow get to the passcode screen but it didn't let me enter anything. I have also tried on a pc through itunes but since I can't unlock it, it won't let me do that either.

the celular company make it by its system, and send me an E mail with the instructions to finsh the process by myself, throug itunes.
I did every step, and at the end appers a message telling that my Iphone is unlocked.
but it does not work with other celular company sim card.
It only works with the original sim Card company.
In the Iphone appears a message teeling that has no service with another company's sim CArd.
I don't know what to do.
I've been doing this, with different Sim cards.
sometimes appears a message informing that the SIM card is locked with a PIN. That i must instal the last itunes version and connect it again.
but every Sim card I have are with PIN.
If you can help me I;ll be very glad.

I have done a lot of restores to the Iphone, and resets also.
I;ve done holding both buttons as you sugested, but there is no signal appearing.
I am in Uruguay, South America and the original company is Movistar ( Telefonica) and the new sim card is from ANTEL ( the officail and biggest company in my country).
I don;t knoe what todo.
I have been trying for more than one mont.
I have gone several times to both companies. Aldo two times to Apple uruguay, and nobody can help me.

If you forgot your passcode, you have to use recovery mode to restore

I have Iphone4 brought from at&t USA(carrier locked) and i am in india now, i contacted at&t and requested for an unlock for me to use with indian carriers.
I got an email confirming the unlock has been completed from at&t and asked me to connect the device to itunes and do a back&restore, after the restore process i get an error message on itunes "your request cannot be processed, please try again after sometime" i tried it with my airtel sim card and also at&t sim card but did not work. I contacted at&t and they confirmed that the unlock request was successful but i still get the same error.

Excuse me. I am on a contract with O2 with an iphone 4s, suddenly xmas day it said "no service", took it to o2 who sent it to apple factory who refused to repair it because a screw missing. I wouldnt know have never opened phone in my life,wouldnt know how to, then went direct to Apple Regent St London who also said "screw missing, warrenty void, then produced a phone just out of contract due to upgrade,a vodaphone carrier 3gs, it was unlocked but then told by apple the owner had to go to vodaphone and get it unlocked on their books which could take up to 48 hours, it is now 72 hours later and i have the same error despite backing up old phone with i tunes and i cloud,am very angry and am paying alot for a contract every month, all i can see is "no service and waiting for activation" and all ths started when I upgraded to IOS 6.Am extremely upset and still under warranty but no one seems to want to help me to connect to WiFI, i cannot keep going to Apple Regent Street at lunchtime and be shooed of with excuses, this replacement phone 3gs should work and it doesnt. Recently I got my Iphone unlocked. Earlier I was using it on ATT n/w. After unlock i am using it in India with a service provider here.
The problem that I am getting is, the phone was able to pick up the network and am able to make calls and messages. Data plan is still to be activated so cant confirm on that, but all the apps that were there on my phone got wiped out on its own. Since I wasnt sure as to what happend, so I reinstalled the apps today morning. I saw the apps getting installed and then left to get ready for my office. after nearly 30 mins I saw nothing was getting syncronized so disconnected the phone and left for Office. On reaching office when I checked for my usual Apps, I could see only the apple apps and none other available there. Need to know whats the issue and how to resolve it. Please can someone help me on this?

I can not get to iPhone screen, so no way to get to Settings. That is the problem. When I connect phone to iTunes I get screen asking to insert SIN card. On the phone I'm getting Cinfigure screen asking Launguage , Country or Region, Wi-Fi, ( I can connect to my home wi-fi), and last screen "Activating your iPhone". I have a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS (eg: purchased from Apple). I received the same message at some point and eventually (after reading a bit more) accepted "Download and Update". No problem. No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

As kb1951 states, unless this phone was purchased directly from Apple, it is not officially unlocked. In the US, only Apple sells officially unlocked iPhones. The message you got generally means your phone was hacked to unlock it...jailbroken...Apple's servers have detected such & are preventing your phone from activating...there's nothing wrong with the activation servers.
You'll need a sim card from the carrier your phone is locked to in order to activate it. If you don't know what carrier, you'll have to call AppleCare in the US to determine this info. Be aware, US carriers will not authorize official unlocking unless you are a customer that used the phone on their network. Thus, there is most likely no way for you to get this phone officially unlocked.

yep, unfortunately can't reset without the passcode either.
With regards to doing a restore, do you mean:
open itunes on my computer
click on my device on the left
go to the device summary
click restore
it then asks if i want to back up before i restore (to which i say no)
then it asks me if i'm sure I want to restore to factory settings and that all of me media and data will be erased and replaced with the newest version ( to which I say yes)
then it takes about 90 mins to do this but when I look at my phone, everything is exactly the same.
Am I missing something? Obviously I'm technologically challenged, but I HAVE to get to the bottom of this!

I had one iPhone 4S buy from Singapore, have been using this phone about a year,
Things happen when update from iOS 6.1.2 to iOS 6.1.3 (non-jail break phone).
After update, when on 3G, phone become no service or searching. Had change new SIM card carrier vision 14.1.
Things never change, so I did another restore using iTunes , things get worst, phone stuck in recovery mode and ending error (error-1)
Had tried few time and same error.

I had the same issue until yesterday. been struggling with it for the last 2 days. I bought the unlocked 4s from the store a week ago and now I cannot upgrade from 6.1 to the higher version.
Although, after searching a lot on the net, I was able to find a software that'll get you out of the recovery mode. Hope this helps. Install the software and click on the 'Recovery Mode Loop Fixer' (2nd tab) and click 'Set Auto Boot True'
The software looks shady but worked.
