Trying to update iPhone 4 to IOS 5.  -402653081 Error

Updating an iPhone 4 (32 gig) on OSX Lion to iOS 5.  After trying to do the backup I get the following error -402653081 and then gives me the option to stop the installation or go ahead and do a fresh install but losing all data.  Anyone else getting this error?

+1
It has consistently failed in this way for each of 4 attempts. I have plenty of hard drive space and freed up 8GB on the device before the first attempt.
Where does the ~774MB iOS 5 update file reside after downloading in iTunes? I want to delete it and initiate a fresh download of the update.
Thanks

  • Trying to update iphone to Ios 5

I first updated my itunes as requested, then restarted computer, and then set to download the new update. It has downloaded fine but when I am getting ready to update it starts the back up for my phone and stops not even 25% in and states an error has occurred while trying to update my iphone (-43) and asks if i want to continue but warns I will lose everything on my iphone if I do, so I cancel out.  I tried searching here and googling my problem but can't find this error code anywhere. I have even done a 2nd reboot on my laptop but so far no update to 5 for me
Can anyone help or is anyone else getting this same problem?

I'm getting the exact same error, but I decided to go ahead and do it anyways as I had manually backed up my phone and done a separate sync today as well.  It then went on to start extracting the software but then fails with a 3200 error which I've seen a lot of reports of here.  I'll be reading those to find out how to proceed.

  • My iPad 2 it totally screwed up at the recovery mode of death after trying to update it to IOS 7. Error 27.

I have already open a case with Apple and they’ve already started to ignore me. I sent a lot of information to them and so far I haven’t heard from them. It is really frustrating! Apple should have tested the updated better and shouldn’t allow it to run if they knew it wouldn’t work in some devices.

Same error with Ipad 3 wifi version. Failed during upgrade and now restore compates but validating restore fails with error 27.
Cannot use device at all as it is stucked on recovery mode. Tried anything.
Apple parnter service did simply charged me for trying but did not know what is wrong with the device. The fix = new one.
This is totally a bug in the SW or the upgrade broke the Ipad. Good job Apple. Now we have to get new one.

  • I have never updated ios on my iPhone 4.  I am currently running ios 4.  I tried to update yesterday to ios 6 but many hours into the backup I got an error message saying that continuing would cause all of my phone contents to be lost. What should I do?

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.

There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.

If you did the update through iTunes, try going into the Settings App on your iPhone and doing the Software Update in there. The same thing happened to me, and the wireless update worked.

  • My Iphone 3GS went into recovery mode while I was trying to update to the iOS 6.1.2

My Iphone 3GS went into recovery mode while I was trying to update to the iOS 6.1.2
I need help fast. I'm on call and this is my only phone.

It finally restored. I saw that a couple folks said they kept trying and finally got restored. So I decided to keep trying and retrying while I researched the techno routes folks described--DFU, tinyumbrella, and scary programming processes. I decided I'd rather put my sim chip in one of our old iphones and take mine to a shop than suffer through a bunch of complication. I switched to Apple b/c I got tired of playing programmer. I digress. After a few minutes itunes would drop my phone from dashboard yet continued showing the checking with Apple...status. So I repeatedly force-quit itunes, restarted phone, unplugged and plugged back into computer. Each time I'd do whatever itunes prompted then walk away. After about an hour of this, for no apparent reason, it went directly into recovery. Didn't lose any photos but did have to reinstall most of my apps. It has to be an Apple network issue related to this particular upgrade.

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.

Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears
The servers are overloaded. There are a hundred million people all trying to download iOS 7 at one time. I would give it some time and try again later

  • TS3694 Trying to update iPhone 5 to latest OS. Now the screen is dark except for the iTunes icon and an icon showing the charger cable pointing to the icon. Bricked out at that point.

Tried to update iPhone 5 to latest OS. When I looked at the phone a while later, the screen was dark except for the iTunes icon in the middle of the screen and another icon showing the charger cable and an arrow point to the iTunes icon. Now I'm bricked out of the phone. When I hold down the power button after the screen goes completely dark, the Apple logo appears, then the iTunes icon I described.

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you only see the "connect to iTunes" screen on your iPhone, this means that the device is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. The information and steps in this article can help further:

  • Trying to update iphone and received msg that could not back up because it has not been set up yet?

    Trying to update iphone.
    Update did not work.
Now trying to turn phone back on and restore.
Received msg that could not back up iphone because it has not been set up yet.

I have iOS 8.02 on my iPhone 5S and Itunes 11.4.0.18 on a Windows 7 computer.  iTunes is not syncing newly added music CD's.   It's set to automatically import CDs when they're loaded using the AAC encoder and error correction.  After they're importedm the songs and albums show up in the iTunes library, but they don't sync with my iPhone.
I've tried the following: Went to the Genius Bar at the Apple store for advice, which was useless (unusual); deleted & reinstalled iTunes; switched from syncing all music to syncing manually (and checked every song, album & genre; deleted the newly-added CDs that didn't sync and re-loaded them.
Is this an iOS 8 problem?  Am I encoding incorrectly?  If not AAC encoder, then what?
