Trying to update iphone/app store, keeps defaulting to old email account

how do i tell the phone to use the new email account? i logged out and logged back in using the new email account, other than that i am not quite sure what to do, i know its going to be something simple but what and where!
thanks in advance

both update my apps and download new ones, i think most are downloaded/purchased via the new email acct, so i should delete them and redownload them? i know i did a restore on my phone a few months back when it died and apple replaced it, they could be tied to the old account because of that

    Sorry, you can't. Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any other Apple ID, nor can they be transferred to another Apple ID. You will have to update them using the ID used to originally obtain them.

    You should be able to log out of an account by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store and you can then log in with your new account.
    Any content that you downloaded with your old account will remain tied to that old account, so only that account can potentially redownload them and/or download updates to its apps. You should be able to reset the password on an iTunes account via http://iforgot.apple.com e.g. by answering the account's security questions.

    What you are getting is the AppleID (AppleID can be an email adress) used at the time of the purchase of this app.  It is an identifiant allowing Apple to link your purchase to your account.
    If you want to manage associated email, you can go at https://appleid.apple.com but the AppleID could never be modified.  
    I do not know if in your case, it is just that you no longer use your old email address or that you actually a 2 AppleID.  In any case, you will have to remember the password related to the account used for your purchase.  If you don't, just use the link above to try to retreive your password.

    I am getting the same message. This is what I did to update my apps.
    Go to the App Store and search for one of the apps that needs an update. When the app appears in the search - there should be an Install button next to the app icon. Tap on it and see if the download will start. It worked for me.
    After over two years of owning iPads and never having had this happen before -  this is happened to me twice now in the last two weeks. It's weird, but it happens.

    When you post for help, please tell us which Mac OS X you have installed.
    If you are running v10.6.8 Snow Leopard try the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
    If you are running v10.7 Lion, try the OS X Lion Update 10.7.2 Client Combo
    Either one of those combos reinstalls the App Store for you which may help.

    It sounds like you created a new Apple ID rather than changing the old one. Which means that purchases made on the old Apple ID can only be updated using that ID.

    Try logging out of the existing Apple ID at Settings > iTunes & App Store.
    Select your Apple ID and at the window that appears, select Sign Out.
    Sign back in with the changed Apple ID.

    Hi vegasbob,
    You need to do the following:
    1.     Go to Manage Your Apple ID https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
    2.     Sign on with your current Apple ID and password
    3.     Change your Apple ID to the old email address, but do not verify it - Save Changes
    4.     Go to Setting>iCloud on your iPad, and scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on Delete Account
    5.     It will ask you for your password to turn off Find My iPhone, type in your current password
    6.     Delete iCloud account
    7.     Go back to Manage Your Apple ID and sign in with the changed ID and current password
    8.     Change your Apple ID back to your current ID - Save Changes
    9.     Go back to Settings>iCloud and sign on with your current Apple ID
    You should be all set.

    Follow this procedure:
    1. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID.
    2. Tap your Apple ID.
    3. Tap View Apple ID.
    4. Enter your password.
    5. Go to Country/Region in the popup window to change to the desired store.
