Trying to update iTunes from 10.3 to 10.5 on laptop
My son just got an iPod touch and for the past 2 days I have been trying to update my version of iTunes 10.3 to the latest version. I have a 64 bit machine. I have uninstalled iTunes, then downloaded the latest, tried to get it installed and get a message
microsoft VC80.CRT.type"win32".version="8.0.50727.6195".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" .processorArchitecture="x86". HRESULT:0x80070424
The iPod needs 10.5. Does anyone know what to do?? I am getting so frustrated.
Patty
That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

I am trying to update ITunes from 10.4 to 10.5 I have tried from both the program, and from a download on Apple's website. Regardless, I get the following error messages: (1) Installation package for iTunes cannot be found. Try installing to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes. I can't find this folder. I have tried to completely unistall iTunes through the Control Panel, but it wouldn't let me: I tried going directly to the files themselves, but cannot uninstall. Any help would be greatly appreciated. System OS: Win XP SP 3.
Set the permissions for Everyone in the folder in which CCPackager created, to "Read/Write" enabled. This is strange since there is only an administrator account on the Mac (and that account already has read/write), but it seems to resolve the issue.

Hi everyone,
I have iTunes 10.2.2 (12) and now i want to update it to version 10.4. I tried the applicationupdate on the system menu, i tried the "look for updates" within iTunes, and i tried to download iTunes, and install it. But NOTHING works, it wont update to version 10.4.1, or to any other version either. And yes, I have tried to restart computer and doesnt work?! My OSX version is btw OSX Lion 10.7.1. But it didnt work on Snowleopard last week either. Please, what should I do to make it update?!Glad you got things working again, and many thanks for reporting back with your resolution.
A quick note for other folks getting the following complication:
After that, tried to install the new version and got a bunch of errors: "Could not open key:UNKNOWN\Components\ ~~~~a lot of numbers and letters~~~~~\ ~~~~~~a lot of numbers and letters~~~~.Verify that you have sufficient acess to that key, or contact your support personnel." that I also found referenced in these forums. I had to go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components and manually add the Administrators group with full access to the keys it complained about. After doing this, I got more of the same errors but for different keys - I assume each component that installs would error out after the first one and it would move on to the next component.
I had to do this and restart the installer about 10 times before the installer completed
The set of instructions from the following post are worth a try with that. (It's a quicker process, and for some unexplained reason tends often to work better than adjust each set of permissions manually.)

While updating/synching I have an error saying that my phone is in recovery; need to restore the phone before it can be used with Itunes. And the phone is frozen with a graphic of the itunes symbol and a connector. If I restore, I assume I will lose all my data. Can anyone offer suggestions on how to get around this? Thanks.
It should restore from the backup. If you don't have any backup then you will lose data but what you going to do you have no other alternative so go ahead and do it.

Hi Diesel vdub,
Did that and I tried again, download stops halfway through and comes up with same message I have already quoted. Wifi Signal is 5/5, network is working, just not letting me download via iTunes. -
When I click on the "Download iTunes button, I get the "accessing store" message and then...nothing.
Any ideas?
I just realised that I am in the wrong spot - I have no idea how I ended up in this thread. Soryy

Nano ver 5/6 doesn't show up in iTunes even after having to reinstall iTunes because of problems with trying to update iTunes after receiving message from Apple that an update was available. Other Apple products are showing up.
Hello Bill,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano. I recommend reviewing this article for steps to take when your iPod is not recognized in iTunes:

I'm trying to update itunes but not very successful and im not making much progress. Im currently getting a message on the screen from Window Installer quoting configuration data for this product is corrupt while trying
The path 'C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\iTunes.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.) -
Months ago I tried to uninstall itunes from Windows 7 after an update failed. I couldn't complete it because two files (ShellStreams.resources and ShellStreams.dll ) were in use. I'm ready to try again. Any Suggestions, please.
See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for tips on repairing the iTunes installation. One of the tools mentioned there, Unlocker, should be able to force delete the files that you are having trouble removing.

When I tried to update Itunes I get an error message that MSVCR80.dll is not available? How can I fix this? I am unable to update my iphone and Ipod. I can not open Itunes.
Click here and follow the instructions. If they don't work, perform a complete reinstallation (Windows XP, Windows Vista and newer).

I am trying to update itunes but keep getting 'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable - Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path folder containing the installation package 'itunes64msi' in the box below'.
I am unable to install and also i cannot uninstall itunes, can anyone HELP PLEASSSSSSEEEEEE!!(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
