Trying to update my iPad, help???

I'm trying to update my iPad to the newest iOS that is suggested in iTunes but it tajes FOREVER to download the 794.2MB.  I've tried constantly for the last 24  hours and the closest I've gotten is 625 MB and then there is a disruption and I have to start over.  Why can't Apple begin where it left off like other downloads?  Why does it have to start from the beginning each time?  What can I do?  If I take my iPad to an Apple store, can they help?

Have you tried disabling your firewall and turn off your antivirus software while you try to download the update? It does take a while to download, and it has been well over a year (probably longer) that I updated any of my devices using iTunes, but I know that when I updated from iOS 4.X to iOS 5, it took no longer than 90 minutes, start to finish.
Yes an Apple Store would be willing to help, but make an appointment first, and backup and sync with iTunes one last time if and when you take the iPad to the Apple Store.
