Trying to update pages

A year ago or so I was cleaning out my Mac and accidently deleted Pages. I don't remember what version it was, but it came with the iWork 09 pack. Since then I've been using Open Office (which has led to a lot of difficulties), so I asked my father for some help. He downloaded the iWork 08 on my computer, thus giving me Pages version 3.0.1. It doesn't work. When I try to type on it, it won't type. And NO, it's not on layout mode. I've searched a lot of discussions on the support community and not of them have solved my problem.
I went to download 9.3 from the Apple support website, but when I opened the file it said "An eligible Keynote application was not found in the location /Applications/iWork '09."
OKAY, first of all, I don't even have an iWork '09 folder in my applications folder. I have an iWork '08, and it has:
• Pages, version 3.0.1
• Keynote, version 4.0.1
• Numbers, version 1.0.1
By the way, none of them work. I try typing, and it doesn't show up. When I highlight the 'typing', all that shows up is a bunch of ¶s.
PLEASE HELP!
***I downloaded the newest software update on the App store, and none of the three apps from above were updated

That is Apples new trick giving such a message even for older Apple products not bought through Mac AppStore. There is a dafult setting in the Mavericks system preferences that can be chagned. You can get rid of the message by going to the System preferences > Security & Privacy
Click on the button Anywhere or maybe the MacAppStore and identified developers.

  • Trying to update "Pages" from App Store. An old email address shows up and am unable to delete.

I am able to purchase a new app from Apple App store using my current email address and password. I am not able to update a previously purchased app (for instance "Pages") that I purchased some time ago when I had a different email address. When I try to update Pages a "grey out"  edition of my old email address is sitting in the id box and I am not able to delete it or get it out of the box and use my newer (2 years) email address. I have even tried to update my current email address with a new password which has absolutely no effect when I try to update Pages. Anyboday have an idea on how to get the old email address out of the id box?

Delete Pages and then download it from the desired Apple ID. This may require repurchasing it.

  • I purchased my Mac Air from a friend.  I am trying to update some programs but his AppleID defaults and I cannot enter mine.

How do I rid the computer of his AppleID  I am using my ITunes and have purchased apps on my acct.  I am trying to update Pages.

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.

  • Updating pages, message says bought by other user?

I'm trying to update Pages, and I keep getting an error message -- This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled. I (stupidly) have 2 Apple ID's, and get the same messages for each one. I bought iWork with my first iMac, when it came on a disc!
How can I get the new versions?

Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
    1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept it and the other iWork applications into your Apple ID, do so.
    2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
    3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
    4. Buy them.

  • When I click to update pages in the app store, nothing happens but it says it's downloading?

I am trying to update pages in the app store. It says it is downloading but nothing is happening. It just asks me to put in my password over and over again. Now I can't even open pages because it says it is being updated, but it's been that way for days. What to do?

Sign out of the App Store and sign back in with the new password.

I understand that you have tried to update plugins but there is a never ending loading.
What part of the plugin page is this happening in? And which plugin page?
In the meantime it is possible to open this page in your browser:

  • When trying to update app I get a message saying " Safari cannot open page because address is invalid" help! I use iPad 1. Thank you.

I have the iPad basic first edition. For some reason my app store app is missing. On my games when I tried to update the apps I get a message that says safari cannot open page because address is invalid, but this happens even when I click directly on the prompt message that comes up when loading game. Also, it seems that my app store app has been deleted? I don't know how to get it back. When I try to download it I get the same safari message as afore mentioned.

Swipe to seethe farthest home screen to the left. Type in App Store in the search box and see if the app may have been accidentally placed into a folder with another app.
You cannot download apps using Safari.

  • I'm trying to update from OSXLion 10.7.5 to OS10.9 in order to use pages s5.2.2. However when I try to update i'm told "no new software available". I bought my mac in 2008. is it too old to accommodate 10.9?

I'm trying to update from OSXLion 10.7.5 to OS10.9 in order to acces pages 5.2.2. When I click "update software" i get message that no update is available My computer is from 2008. is it too old to accommodate OS 10.9?

Thanks Just figured this out when I tried to download Mavericks and got the same message .The reason i wanted to upgrade OSX was to access Pges 5.2.2 because I'm sharing a document with someone who has the latest Pages version. Any solutions? Or I'm just stuck?

  • I had a disc of pictures in my imac and tried to update the software to 10.9, after realizing the disc was in there i ejected it and now its stuck on the os x page. any info of how to get away from that screen and onto my normal pages?

i tried to update my software to 10.9 and forgot i had a disc of pictues in the computer. i stopped the istall as it was trying to go onto the disc of pictures. now its stuck on the os x page and i cant get it to my home screen. can anyone help?

I'm not really sure what you mean by "the os x page". It sounds like the installation did not complete.
    I would try this:
hold down the power button until the computer shuts down
take out the disk with the pictures!
restart and see if it will boot up
if it boots up normally, I'd probably try to repair your HD: Boot into your recovery partition (hold down ⌘R at restart until you see the Apple symbol), go to Disk Utility, and repair your hard drive. While you're there, repair permissions too. OSX Tips Using the Recovery HD
Then I'd try to reboot and run the installer again. I think it's a good idea to do the installation in safe mode : Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? .
if it won't boot up normally, I'd try booting from the recovery partition and repairing your HD.
if it won't boot into the recovery partition, your options are:
Try to repair your hard drive with internet recovery: OS X: About OS X Recovery
If you have access to another (working) Mac and a USB thumb drive, download Recovery Disk Assistant, which you can use to repair your hard drive or reinstall OSX: OS X: About Recovery Disk Assistant
Try to boot into single user mode and repair your hard drive: Repair Your Hard Disk in Single User Mode | Everything Macintosh

Have you the latest version of iTunes installed on your computers? Sometimes it is a matter of agreeing to the (new) terms and conditions. If all else fails, uninstall iTunes and then re-install it.

You are doing all that you cn do right now other than to update the apps in iTunes on your computer and sync them to the iPad.
There has been a problem with the App Store updates tab for a few days now and we are all waiting for Apple to fix it.
Look at all of the discussions on the iPad forum that are talking about this right now.
