Trying to update printer drivers

Upgraded to Lion recently.  Trying to update printer drivers.  All attempts to open official Apple printer drivers packages result in:
"The Installer can’t open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions."
Fussed with permissions settings and such.  No dice.  Any ideas?

You could try deleting the /Library/Printer/EPSON and the /Library/Caches/Epson/ folder and then reinstalling the updates.

  • Non admins trying to reinstall printer drivers

We are having an issue that started last night (after updates/maybe coincidental) That our users(Non-admins)  are having to reinstall the printer driver for the policy pushed printers. And unfortunately its prompting them for Admin creds. All the
printer deploys work just fine, and if a new user logs in the printer gets deployed fine. Its only when trying to refresh the driver. Only 1 driver that we are having issues with and it is the universal HP driver the other drivers are not trying to be reinstalled.
    Ideas?

    Dear friend,
Please enable the : "Allow non-administrator to install drivers for these device setup classes" policy

  • Trying to update Graphics drivers...and others

    Hello,
I am having a few issues with my laptop.  Think I need to upgrade the graphics drivers. Possibly update other things as well.  Doesn't seem like it's any of the basic "Windows Updates" either.  When I download the Intel driver update, it tells me I need to go to the computer manufacturer...which of course is Toshiba...instead of thru them.
Any guidance?  How do I update the graphic drivers and check for other updates, drivers or whatever else, for my Toshiba laptop?
    Laptop = Satellite P55t - A5118 running on Intel i7.
    Plz lemme know...thx.
    Dom

    Satellite P55t-A5118
    Downloads here.
Get all your drivers from the Toshiba site above.
Many use the Toshiba application "Service Station" to alert them for updates. It's already on your computer, but the latest version can be obtained from here.

  • Updating Printer Drivers?

I was unable to print anything on my Lexmark Z53 printer while using my new Mac Mini. The note said to update software under Apple so I clicked and the updates started which took several hours. But when everything was finished I still couldn't print out. I then went to Lexmark's web page and found the Apple support download. There I learned I should've left the printer on while downloading the updates and I would have gotten a prompt to install for the printer. Another option said if you're not connected to the Internet to install the Mac OSX DVD and an Option Install would appear and prompt for updating the printer. I'd like to know if that's what I should do? I don't want to reinstall something I already have. But I'd also like to avoid buying a new printer, if possible. Would appreciate any reply. Thank you.

Never mind, I got my own answer when I called Lexmark. Apparently my printer will only update to 10.3 so I'll have to get a new one.

  • Every morning Mountain Lion asks to update printer drivers but....

...... when I click OK, it says NO SOFTWARE FOUND.
    What's the deal?
I do a software update later and still no software found.

To get rid of the error message, you could try deleting the /LibraryPrinter/EPSON and  /LibraryPrinter/Canon folders and the /Library/Caches/Epson/ folder and then reinstalling the updates. It sounds, though, like you are current, so I'd only try the above if the message is making you crazy. You could also turn off checking for these updates.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't find printer drivers

I am trying to update the drivers for my HP Officejet 4315xi Printer but when I enter the model number it can not find the model of printer. What do I do next? Thank you

I ended up doing a search on the base product -- Officejet 4315.  The page that appeared showed three products and one of the products was the Officejet 4315xi
The actual driver page is located here
Select your Operating System and you will have the available drivers for download.

  • Wont install or update the drivers.. urgent! :(

    Hello,
Ive been used the BETA for a while now, and I was looking forward to upgrade to the final version 2.0.
When I insterted my Leopard disk and tried to update my drivers, it couldnt install the REMOTE, TRACKPAD or the KEYBOARD support.
I tried to uninstall these drivers through DEVICE MANAGER, so I can install the new ones from scratch, but they didnt want to install either.
Now my keyboard or my trackpad wont work under Windows....
    Can anybody help me???

You should not uninstall these drivers from the device manager but use the software uninstall option to do this. If you can still use a mouse and the keyboard (unplug & re-insert the keyboard) then try a few other options.
To install the updated trackpad driver explore the Leopard DVD in Windows.
You will see a Driver folder, go into the Driver folder and continue into the Apple folder.
In the Driver\Apple folder are the Apple drivers for the remote, trackpad and keyboard. Just execute the individual installs to update the drivers.
This is really the brute force method, I propose this since you are currently in a bad state.
If you run into a similar problem in the future please use the software uninstall option in the control panel to remove the old drivers and use the repair functionality in the Boot Camp installer.

  • WHAT are all these printer drivers?

does anyone know if (in the vein of monolingual) there's a utility (or just a way) to remove the gratuitous printer drivers present in OSX? is this advisable? i really don't think i'll be printing directly from this machine in the next few years any time.

IIRC there have been standard OS updates (point) that contain updated printer drivers. I think it was epson. You'll probably get them anyways. I wouldn't advise removing them. Sure, it's 2gigs or something like that, but it's a really useful 2 gigs (might be a little less). You may find yourself printing wirelessly and being really glad you kept all those drivers. The thing about Mac OS X just working is exactly what you're thinking about gutting.
In the vein of monolingual how bout gutting everything but C? I mean...who needs java right.
Calm down....it's not that much space... get a cup, stand outside a supermarket, and soon enough you too can get a larger hard drive.
But..yeah...I would advise against it as being 1) more trouble than it's worth, 2) unreliable, and 3) something you might regret.
You may not need a certain language input menu, but you just may need to print something out. Kinda a higher probability there.
Anyways it IS your Mac. Do what you want with it
    Good Luck,

  • Windows 7 clients need to update printer driver for no reason

I have a problem with my Windows 7 clients in domain. We have 2012 print server and multiple printers installed on it. I installed a brand new Canon IR printer with a new driver from Canon webpage. After I did that, almost all Windows 7 clients got a warning
that they need to update driver for printing. Those clients are NOT using the printer I installed, but the other ones (who worked fine until my installation). Is it possible that installing new printer cause other compatible printers to update themselfs???
Can I avoid it in the future?

    Hi IvanSa83,
The main issue is that installing a new printer will affect other printers, right?
Here is a similar symptom and the environment is Windows 7 ,Windows 2003 Server. The OP in this case has resolved this issue by modifying the Group policy called “Point and Print Settings Restrictions”. This policy will influence Windows Vista and the later
    version.
As the link posted by OP said: When an administrator updates a printer driver on a shared print server, the Point and Print feature automatically updates printer drivers from the print server to a client computer. Some printers may share driver files
across several printer models or across a family of printers. An update to one of these shared driver files will cause client computers to update the drivers for any device that depends on the updated files.
Here is the case link :
Windows 7 client "Driver update required" status when other printers installed / updated on Win Server 2003

Here is the group policy path: Computer Configuration \Administrator Templates\Printers

  • Updating bootcamp drivers

My macbook has vista installed using the bootcamp beta, and I've just tried to update the drivers with the Leopard DVD, unfortunately it doesn't seems to work.
It pops up a dialog stating "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'BootCamp.msi' in the box below."
The "box below" contains "E:\Mac Drivers\Drivers\Apple\", but I don't have an E drive. If I browse to BootCamp.msi on the disk it's in "D:\Drivers\Apple\", but using this just causes the dialog to continue coming up.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Cheers
    Iain

I have, but I'm running Windows XP. Same issues exactly. Did you find a solution?

  • I don't have an HP printer any more, but Apple keeps trying to update my HP drivers, etc.  Is there some way I can fix software update to avoid this?

Very minor problem:  Software update keeps wanting to update my HP printer drivers; I don't have an HP printer any more, and I don't want to waste either the time or the space.  How do I tell the software update program I'm not interested in this particular item?

Is the printer still mentioned in System Prefs?

  • Is there a way to prevent Software updates to automatically upgrade my printer drivers?

    Hi everybody!
Is it possible to prevent Mountain Lion to automatically upgrade my printer drivers?
I'm using an iMac with Mountain Lion at work, and for my printer to work, I need to keep an older version of xerox drivers (newer versions are not supporting some features we're using at a corporate level). Is there a way to tell software updates to stop asking me to update those drivers? I would love to use the "update all" feature without having to continuously reinstall old drivers...
Thank you so much for your help!
    Sincerely
    Neff

Thank you Barney-15E, I tried to right-click and hide this update and for the moment everything appears to work just fine. I'll let you know if the update request pops-up again at the next software update.

  • Trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable

I am trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 to be able to use the airprint feature but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable. I have tried restarting the macbook, turning on and off the printer, repairing permissions, deleting and redownloading the update what else can I do? The prinyrt works fine otherwise...

If there are no drivers for Yosemite you might be in trouble.. HP will tend not to support printers once they are EOL.
Getting it running over wireless rather than USB might be worthwhile.
Can’t connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Has the printer been working and now failed after update.. what update caused the failure if that is the problem??

  • Apple HP Printer Drivers 2.3 Update seems to hang at end

I tried to install this three times and even and after a reboot, with a repair permissions for good measure, on each try it never got passed the final "Running Package Scripts" with about a minute to go. It just sat there running at 100% CPU with "kextd" as the culprit.
I left it alone and after 14 minutes it FINALLY finished. Not sure what was going on, or why it takes 100% of the CPU for 14 min to install a print driver on my system, but it's done and an FYI to anyone else that sees this issue to just leave it alone and hopefully it will do the same for you.
Might just be my system? Any ideas what might be wrong?

Downloaded and installed via Software Update. From start of SU to finish, the entire process took a bit more than two minutes. This, from the install log:
