Trying to update the First Gen Ipod to the newest IOS if possible!

Hello Im trying to update two older verison's IPod First Gen.
The one is verison... 4.2.1 (8C148) its a 8GB
model number MCC086LL
serial Number 1D034SRL75J
I dont know if this information is needed but i put it up here anyway.
The other one is verison.... 4.2.1 aswell its also a 8GB
model number is the same
serial Number... 1B951D5T75J
I was told that by the owners that they were having trouble getting apps and downloading them they had enough space on them so i told them i would restore them but of course i only started doing the one looked at all their apps and everything needed before doing anything i Back-up their ipod of course! but to find out that its already up to date it says! not sure if i can update to the newest IOS and start it from scratch or what Help is needed!

Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Check for Updates “...
If an Update Appears Install it...
if not... you are up to date for your particular Device...

Help needed to update a 4th gen ipod touch running version 4.3.5 (8L1) to the latest 6.0 version. When I connect and try to update i keep getting a box which states that a connection error occured and I cannot update.
I have been given a new laptop for xmas which runs on windows 8, and the new itunes version (which is in itself a hurdle as I am a technophobe!) and this is all becoming a bit fustrating.
I have connected, updated and synced my iphone successfully, but just hit a brick wall on the ipod. (which incidentally maybe where this laptop will end up!!)
Help if you can, but in laymans terms.......

Let me get this straight...... I have paid for content on itunes, bought the apple devicds in order to play said content, now I have to subscribe $25 for the privilage of playing MY library content on MY other devices. Which wasn't such an issue to do before the new and improved itunes version!!
Have I got that correct. I think I cannot associate my other iOS devices with my library because I am unwilling to pay further through the nose!!!??? or am I missing something?

Can 2nd Gen iPod run on newest iOS?

Was given a used 2nd Gen iPod Touch, can't download any apps because it says I don't have iOS 3.2....how do I update my iPod to get the newest apps?? And if I can't do that....how do I know what apps I can download???

I have the most updated iTunes I believe (10 dot something I think---not on the same computer right now).
My computer has Windows Vista on it.
I looked at updating a 1 G ipod, but the ipod I was given already has those updates...meaning either A) it is a 1G and was updated or is a 2G. It has the all silver back if that means anything.
Well, to solve all my problems I just asked for the most updated ipod touch for Christmas. Until then...all I can do I guess is download my cd's to this ipod.

Ok I got a ipod gen 1, my current firmware or i guess software is 1.1.5 and I was wondering how to update the software to 3.1.3. Or if there isn't a way to do that what is the lastest I can update my software too? I just really need the app store and i realized that you need an update for that. And I have heard that it makes your internet connection faster, since its so slow some mobile sites don't even open. Like Facebook is so glitchy and lags I cannot even use it! The only sites I can use on it atm is twitter and yahoo.

Yes, it does, or at least on my computer. And yes I do understand. You wish to upgrade your iPod from iOS 1 to iOS 3. The Apple instructions I linked, give you step by step instructions to do just that.

Trying to connect/sync first gen iPod touch to Compaq laptop

I've had this iPod touch for about a little over a year and a half and it's in perfect condition, it's just when I plug it into my laptop using the USB cord my laptop won't even recognize it and the iPod won't even charge, let alone sync. I know it's not the cord because it works perfectly when my brother charges/syncs his iPod on his laptop. My iPod will charge when I plug it into my dock I just can't get it working on my laptop and I haven't updated my music in a couple of months and it is absolutely killing me. What app are yuo using? The TV out connection only works for app that support its use and it does not mirror the iPod's screen. The native Video supports TV out.

Aside from the iTunes hanging, is your iPod working, can you reset the iPod to get the welcome screen?
1. does the screen shows the music menu or no display?
2. The battery status is fully charged?

If you have iOS 4.2 that's as far as it will go. You need a newer iPod if you want a newer iOS version.
