Trying to update to iOS5.0.1, Newsstand content could not be transferred - not authorised

As the strapline says, I am trying to install 5.0.1 update to my iPad, but when i try to sync purchases before doing so (as it will remind me to do if i don't), I get a message saying:
"xxxxx" could not be transferred from the iPad "my iPad" because you are not authorized for it on this computer.
This message occurs for EACH Newsstand subscription I have in my Newsstand folder.
Please don't suggest I deauthorize and reauthorize etc., as the computer i am using IS authorized as I have proven by (a) attempting to reauthorize it , and (b) all my purchased iTunes content works fine.
Any ideas?
What i do NOT want to have to do is redownload gigs of Newsstand content after losing it when i update...

You have items on the iPad that were downloaded or synced to the device that are not in your iTunes library as the message states. That consists of apps, books, videos, songs ....anything that you have downloaded but not yet transferred into iTunes on your computer.
Prior to the latest updates in iTunes, those items would transfer automatically - the overwhelming majority of the time - when you synced your device with your computer. There were times however, when the transfer didn't work automatically and you always had the ability to do the transfer manually. You will read about that in the link that Niel provided. Now, iTunes sees those non transferred items and warns you about them before you sync so that you have the opportunity to move them to the computer first and so that they are not erased when you sync.
Anyway, if the songs that you have on the iPad were purchased from iTunes, they will transfer back into your iTunes library when you follow the instructions in the link. If they were no purchased from iTunes, you cannot transfer them back to the Mac without using a third party app like this one.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

You aren't likely to get an answer with that type of attitude. BTW, you are not contacting Apple on these forums. We are all volunteer end users just like you. If you want support, then call AppleCare and you can get one-on-one assistance.

I am trying to update to iOS5 on my iPad 2, but after the download completes, and file processing starts, I get an error message "There was a problem downloading the software ... the network connection timed out."  Diagnostic tests check out OK.  Any suggestions?

Temporarily disable your firewall and security software and see if that helps.

  • Error message (-43) while trying to update to iOS5

While trying to update to iOS5, I keep getting this message part way through the back up process:
An error occurred while backing up this iPhone (-43)
Would you like to continue to update this iPhone?
Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPhone.
    Continue - Cancel
Is there something else I need to try in order not to receive this error message?
(I have tried rebooting, using different USB ports, changing the sequence of starting iTunes and plugging in the iPhone, fresh install of iTunes 10.5).
If I click Continue, will iOS5 install and will I be able to restore my contents from a prior backup (manual backup before updating)?
I can't find any discussion threads with the same error code.

    Danny,
I lost nothing after the upgrade and "restore from previous backup." The only app that was not functioning after the upgrade was Copilot Europe, but the solution was to delete the app from the iPhone and reinstall it (did not have to pay for it again).
The problem after the upgrade was the fast battery drain and heat that others have been reporting with 4S, but that seems to be an iOS5 issue with some of the settings in Notifications and Location Services. I think I have pretty much solved that one by adjusting some of those. Also, there is already an update to iOS5 in the works.
I hope you succeed with the upgrade!

i cant update my iphone and i tried going on my pc on itunes and clicking check for update button but it says that "itunes could not contact the iphone software update server because you are not connected to the internet". But i checked my internet on both my pc and iphone and tried again but it still says the same thing. plzz plzz help

Were you definitely connected to the internet at the time? If you don't have iOS 5 on your iPhone then the only way to update it would be via iTunes, once updated to the latest version of iOS you'll be able to update your iPhone without connecting to iTunes "over-the-air".
Before updating however it goes without saying to Backup your iPhone, this should happen by default upon connecting your iPhone to iTunes.

if itunes can no longer pickup your ipod, and you cant even do anything to your ipod, your best option is to either call apple care, or just take it to the nearest apple shop. i had a similar problem, mines currently at apple care repairs and they might just end up giving me a replacement.

    Do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Whenever i click on my network name in the ( Choose a network.. ) the grey circle icon just keep turning around for minutes and still can't connect..
tried hard reset, factory reset, reset of router and everything.. still can't get in my ipad to connect to wifi.. help please!

Does the iPad connect to other networks?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
