Trying to upgrade iTouch software

I tried to upgrade the software from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3. The first time I got an error message part of which read "Unknown error(1602)". The iPod disappeared from iTunes. Unplugging the iTouch from the system did no good. I then exited iTunes and restarted. The iTouch was back but iTunes complained that it was in a recovery mode and asked if I wanted to reset it. I said I did. Then I got an error message "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. Unknown error(5)." I again restarted iTunes and again iTunes complained that the iTouch was in recovery mode and asked if I wanted to reset it. I said I did. Then I got an error message "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. Unknown error(1604)."
After this I came here.

Follow the instructions in [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1358284&tstart=0]. Also make sure you are connecting to a usb 2 port directly on your computer, and not through any type of hub.

    I get the following:

      (3) iTunes error message - A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-42404) OK
      (4) iTunes error message - We could not complete your iTunes Store request. A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-42404) There is an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later. OK
    Okay, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Funny, iTunes can be found in a program folder, but it does not show up in the programs list. I tried to look for it using the command prompt ("wmic" --> "product get name") but iTunes is not there either. Doesn't even show up in the registry to try to uninstall.
    I just want to "properly" uninstall and reinstall iTunes (plus the other usual suspects, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, & Apple Application Support). If anyone out there has any suggestions, please help! (I'm running Windows Vista -- don't judge/laugh) :-)

    Okay, feeling like an idiot, but will share so others don't have to. I rebooted my computer and that enabled iTunes to reappear in the programs list. Don't appear to be having the same problems as before (no error messages now). Problem solved!

    Without more information all I can suggest is:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    While the upgrade to ios6 went on smoothly for my iPhone 4 and my iPads, while upgrading the iPhone 3GS, I came across this error message. Can some one help me how to get this sorted out ?Now the phone shows that I should connect it to my computer through USB although it remains connected and the error message comes only after the phone is connected and it tries to extract the software and update.

    How EXACTLY was it "unlocked"?
    ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Anything else is a hack.
    If it was hacked/jailbroken to unlock it, you can't get help here per the terms of service. It is most likely now bricked.

    If you are near an Apple store, you can take the cable, charger and iPad in for testing.
    Or like Anti says, try a different cable.
    I'm not familiar with Cheeseball cable, though. I've used Apple and Griffin with good results.

    We now have 3 iPods (2 3rd generation, 1 2nd generation), which are sync'd with a single iMac (running Leopard) with different checked play lists.   • ITunes will not run on my computer since I tried to upgrade the software

    I performed an upgrade a while back to my iTunes software. Every since then it will not open even though it says it is running in my task manager. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling a hundred times with no luck so far. I followed the steps and deleted the file with no success. I have tried to start it without my firewall and Norton completely shut down and this did not work either. I am really frustrated and could use some help.

    I know it sounds nuts, but it has helped probably 30 or more pple in the last day or two alone.
    There is a version of malware going around causing iTunes to not open. It started showing up sometime in October. Its a bear, but Ewido seems to be removing it for pple to open iTunes

    You must purchase Leopard. It's not an update, but an upgrade.
    Make sure your Mac meets v10.5 Leopard requirements.

  • Tried to upgrade the software...stuck on 100%

    I got the software alert, so followed through the steps to upgrade to OS10 on my Z10....and it said it had to restart.  Clicked Now...it restarted but then got stuck on the blackberry logo, saying 100% and would not leave.  I could not shut it off, so I removed the battery.  Started again and the same thing...stuck on 100%.
    What can I do??

    My itouch was working fine until an error occured while trying to upgrade the software. Now, when i plug it in it just shows me a picture telling me to connect to itunes, and i tunes does not recognize my ipod as being connected. i can not get the ipod to even go into the main menu

    Of course iTunes won't recognize an iTouch. That's not an apple iPod. Are you thinking of the iPod touch?
    Hah, I'm just kidding. For your issue here, I suggest a few things
    -Restart your computer
    -Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes by going to 'help' and then 'check for updates
    -Try another USB cord
    -Try another USB port and make sure your USB drivers are installed correctly and up to date (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538)
    -Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567)
    -Uninstall iTunes and reinstall (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925)
    Those steps should fix everything up for you but if they don't, be sure to try it on a different computer.
