Trying to use iMessage on iPad 2

Imessage is set up on my iPad 2, however when I try to choose a contact and message them, all of which have ios 5 on their iPhones, and are using iMessage to message each other, it is saying I cannot message them as they are not registered with IMessage.

Hi, I've managed to sort iMessage on my ipad2. I was actually being stupid! First you have to enter your apple account username and password then it asks for the email address you would like to use. Mine is working fine now.

I was trying to use imessage to share a photo with iPhoto. I go the message "couldn't communicate with a helper application"
My iMessage works fine for everything else. I am currently running yosemite and every app has been updated.
I restarted the macbook pro and i didn't resolve the situation. Is anyone else having this issue?

Are you getting that message window after clicking on the "+" button to access your Contacts?
That's what happens to me. I know of now way to fix it.
My workaround is to create a new message in Messages and drag the photo from the iPhoto window into the message section of a new message and use the "+" button there to get the address to use

I have just upgraded to OS5 and have been trying to use iMessage, however the send button is not highlighted and I cannot send messages?

That refers to iMovie, not iPhoto, and photos in Events can certainly be shared to Email.
What email option have you selected? IPhoto? Or some other one?

Using iMessage on iPad

I just upgraded from iPad 2 to the new iPad. I can no longer use iMessage . I turned it on in settings using my apple ID and password. I open iMessage and it asks me to chose email for messages. I choose my .mac email and it says verifying. Says it can't verify and tells me to check email for verification code, but there is no message. My email is the same as my apple ID.

Problem solved! I had 2 apple IDs . For some unknown reason my apple ID, that is also my @mac.com address is not verified. I logged into my old account where the same @mac.com address was verified. I removed the @mac.com address from the second account and added a new email address, my gmail.com address. Verified it and used that Apple ID to sign into FaceTime and iMessage. Works.

i have my new phone and it has all my pictures an contacts and I've been putting in my password but the only apps that arnt taking it is my FaceTime and imessage

Especially check Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure your time zone is set correctly.

Hi,
My girlfriend and I are both using iOS 5 on our iPhones. Up until a couple of days ago everything was going fine - SMS and iMessage messages were appearing alongside each other in the Messages app. The other day, however, I picked up my iPad and sent her an iMessage from there, and it created a second user/stream in her Messages app. Now, whenever I send her an iMessage from my phone, it appears in the new/separated thread but when I send an SMS it goes into the original thread which contains all our other messages (including all the iMessages sent before my iPad messed things up).
Also, when she opens the original thread, she is only able to send me regular SMS/MMS, and in the new thread she's only able to send me iMessages. Is there any way to get the two threads combined in her phone?
Incidentally, this only happens on her phone. In the Messages app on my own iPhone, everything is still combined within the one thread and from there I'm able to send as SMS or iMessage.
Both threads on her phone are titled correctly with my name, and tapping the "Contact >" button at the top of the message thread displays the exact same contact card for me.
I've tried going into her contacts to ensure my phone number and registered email address are both contained within the same contact - and they are. I've even tried removing my contact details entirely from her phone and re-importing them, but that didn't work either.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can solve this issue and merge the two threads (or message streams if you prefer) please? In the meantime, I've had to turn iMessage off entirely as it's too hard to follow the thread of a conversation when my messages can be appearing in any one of two places.

Yes, but only by no longer using Messages on the iPad. I removed my account from the iPad, AND my iPhone. Set it up again on my phone and specified that I can only recieve iMessages via my mobile phone number.
Alternatively - and I only spotted this after upgrading to iOS 6. There's a setting (new in iOS 6?) which allows you to specify the address/number from which iMessages are sent - if you set that to your mobile number on all your devices, everything stars to work as it should in that iMessages and SMS appear in the same place on the recipient's phone.

I have successfully setup iMessage on both my iPad and iPhone devices.
I was wondering if anyone can help me with the following problems:
When my iPad is in stand-by mode or with the smart cover on the screen, it will only receive the iMessage on my iPhone and not iPad. If I have both devices turned on and are readily available then I will get the iMessage on both messages at the same time. Is there perhaps a setting or a setup step that I have missed to enable my iMessages to be in sync?
Can I change the display name of my iMessage rather than it coming in under my full email address eg My Name instead of [email protected]

Assuming you use the same iCloud account for all devices, check the following on each device:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached at > enable the phone number and email addresses you use..

I have ipad 2 with Kensington Keyfolio keyboard. Emoji will not display when the keyboard is connected. It works when I disconnect the keyboard and use the touch keyboard. Is Emoji not supported using the Keyfolio keyboard?

IMHO, forget about doing any meaningful Excel work an iPad unless you want to be a slave and spend 3-4 times the amount of time it would take to do inputs on a normal computer. Now, IF there was mouse support, then it might be worth the effort. I tried it and gave up.

I have an Ipod Touch and it wont let me send a message in Imessage. And do u have to send it to another Ipod touch or can u send it to a normal phone?

The Messages app will only send Messages to other Apple iOS devices (iPhone, iPod touch or iPad) that have iOS 5 and have activated the Messages app.

The iPad has no cell voice capability (text messages, I.e. SMS, is not sent over cell data) so you can't send normal text messages as it is not a phone. There are apps such as TextFree that will allow you to send SMS.
