Trying to use MacBook to connect Wii to internet

I just bought a Wii yesterday and I am trying to connect it to the internet so I can buy old school nintendo games. I have already spent way too much time on it and it won't work. The wii is recognizing the signal from my computer, but it will not pass the connection test. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
I am running a MacBook 10.4.11 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
I have the internet coming into my macbook through ethernet DSL and it is being broadcast through airport wireless.
Again, thank you for your help!

Ensure that the firewall on the MacBook is disabled.
Unfortunately OS X's Internet sharing has no options. If the services required by the Wii aren't passed through, you will need to buy an inexpensive wireless router and use that instead of your Mac.

  • Need help in using my GPRS connection to surf internet on macbook

    Hi,
I have a Nokia 9300 communicator, with a GPRS conenction. I want to use it to connect to the internet on my macbook. Since I am in India, my service provider, not having sufficient knowledge of the mac, cannot help me with configuring it.
    can anyone hwlp me here?
i want to connect using bluetooth. Also, although I can connect the phone to the macbook via bluetooth and can trabsfer files to & fro, I cannot syncronise my phone book.
How do I go about doing that??
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Brian, Thanks for that. I went to meet my service provider (Hutch) yesterday. What he told me is very close to yours. Here it is
First, when we have to make the new connection, there are 2 options - dial up or GPRS line. We tried GPRS line and set up as follows:
    Username: Blank
    Password:Blank
Number to dial 99**# or *99#
Here, the guy wants to know where we can enter the APN number - & I have no clue.
Second, using these settings, I got connected, the MB says it was authenticating user and my call also showed the "G" sign, but it went away after a second, giving me an error message - Could not negotiate connection with PPP server.
Just for curiousity sake, this guy tried his cell- a Nokia 6230. & it worked just fine. There was this problem, though, that every few seconds, the connectiion went off, giving the message that the modem had unexpectedly hung -up (& the poor guy's cell would switch off & on again on its own). But this is still distant for me.
I need your help in getting the modem script that you are talking about. I can only see 3 nokia modems- & they are all ir, none of them are for GPRS.
My problem is that there is no store or anything like that in India. I just bought the MB when in London recently, as it looked nice. Not very sure what to do now.
    Awaiting more help

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.

Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • My AirPortExBS n-type will create a network, but not use it to connect to the Internet

I just got a new AirPortExtreme, n-type, and I can create a successful network but cannot use it to connect to the internet.  I can do both with my old APEx, g-type.  I can connect to the internet directly via Ethernet.
I've been in chat all **** day with Comcast, who insist it's Apple's fault, despite all the evidence to the contrary.  They just want an excuse to charge me a setup fee.  Jerks.
    Salient points:
g-type wireless network (while it's useful to tell the two apart, I'll miss the whimsical UFO-shaped device) works.
n-type device will create a network my MacBook can detect, but it can't access the internet.  I got my APExpress in the mail (two days later, even though they were ordered at the same time) today and I haven't tried bridging that in yet, too many headaches already, but I can print wirelessly over the new network when my printer is attached to the square APEBS.
I have power-cycled the **** things almost a dozen times at the behest of my Mac's setup guide and Comcast's chat people.
My best guess is that my modem, because I did not buy Comcast's (jerks) "Wireless Self-Install Kit" is somehow not compatible with the faster AirPort...  though why it wouldn't broadcast at the 2.4Ghz band, at least, I don't know.
I will be thoroughly grateful if you guys could help me out here.  I've never had a problem with any of my Apple products before, so this is a little disturbing.
    Thanks, Jenna

I have found several discussion boards and articles regarding iTunes not recognizing any device in Windows.  However, I haven't been able to find one that discusses this specific issue.  Does any body have an idea on how to correct this?????

Yes, that is the Tetheringn or HotSpot option.  Some models have this.  You will have to set up your phone to do this, and your carrier will likely charge you an extra fee for the tethering service.

  • Macbook not connecting to any Internet source

Hello, my Macbook recently, like last night, stopped connecting to the internet at all. This is a new Macbook, just purchased a few months ago, and I've never had a problem like this. At home I've got a Surfboard cable modem hooked up to a Time Capsule. I thought this might be the problem at first, because the Time Capsule has been reporting that it has no DNS servers. Today I took my Macbook to school to connect and it refused to connect even here where I know the connection is working. The school uses an http proxy to connect, but my computer has always been able to connect to the proxy as long as I turn it on. This time it says that I can't find it. I've tried plugging it in directly to an ethernet cord at home, but that didn't work either. Given, my home internet could be messed up. I haven't tried a direct ethernet connection at school, though I am not optimistic. Is something broken in my Macbook? Do I need an update? How would I get that if I can't even access the internet?

Are you able to administer your Time Capsule using AirPort Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities)?
    Best of luck.

  • Why won't my macbook air connect to the internet?

I recently arrived at my relatives house and connected to their guest internet via password. I opened network preferences, selected the network, and it connected. Then when I went to google chrome and safari, I was sent to a page where a login password was required. I entered this password and surfed the internet until mid day. Then this evening I went to log on to the internet and my macbook air wouldn't bring up the log in page like it had earlier this morning and yesterday evening. My iPod touch connects just fine, and so do the windows computers in the house. There is a three-device limit for the guest internet, but currently there is only one computer on it. I tried restarting my macbook several times, I deleted the account from the list of frequently accessed wifi spots, but nothing seems to work. Help please! And nothing too technical, I'm not really too computer savvy. Thanks.

I recently had a similar problem.  I tried many solutions that others propsed.
My particular solution, I "looked" into my Westell router and found its IP address. Seeing the other 5 devices (all were working on the internet), I saw how the ending number of the address identified the particular device on the router. I went to the System Preferences on the MacBook Air, opened up Network, chose Advanced and went to the tab TCP/IP and then in the Configure IPv4 address pull down used the manual DHCP and entered a new number that was 12 higher than another computer.
Example 192.168.200.1 was router, another computer was 192.168.200.68 and I gave the Air .80 as the last number.  It worked!
I don't know what will happen when I return to my usual home network where it was working as well as on others.
Best of luck to all who have this problem.

  • New Macbook wont connect to the internet

So i bought one of those new MacBook's. Its airport detects the network im trying to connect to, and shows it has full signal strength but refuses to let me onto any websites. Its as if there is no network connection active, despite airport saying there is.
I went into the Mac Store and asked a very helpful person in a blue t-shirt there and he mentioned adding the macbooks MAC address to the MAC Filter list. - that hasnt worked
The Network im trying to connect to is a WPA Personal, set up on a windows PC
    Can anyone help?!

You need to access the router from you Mac and verify that the settings are correct.
Enter the IP of the router into your address bar on Safari and log into the router.
You will need to know the IP address, and the login id and password.
Then check the WiFi settings. Type of encryption, etc.
Then on the Mac in Network Preferences, be sure you have checked Configure: Using DHCP
If you are connecting to the router you should see the router IP address next to Router:
and your own IP DHCP-assigned IP next to IP Address.
You might want to first set the computer up using a wired connection to the router to eliminate any issues with the WiFi, which is a bit more complex to setup and get working properly.
You will have to learn a bit about networking in order to diagnose and fix things.
Then there is the other issue: If your router does not have the latest firmware, Leopard may not work with it until it is updated. Leopard security is much higher than in the Windows world and if the router and/or WiFi part of it is not running the most recent firmware/software, Leopard may simply not connect. Many of us here had to update our router firmware to make Leopard work properly. It's easy to do and you can find the information on your router's website.

  • Why won't my Macbook pro connect to the internet, yet my desktop PC will?

My 13 inch Macbook Pro was purchased back in March of this year, but recently I've been unable to connect to the internet. Within the network settings it says that my Airport is on and has a self assigned IP and that both the ethernet and firewire are not connected. Yet when on my desktop PC, everything seems to be working fine. I've concluded that it couldn't be my router, at least I'm pretty confident it's not.
I've tried the usual reboot, unplug router routine but it still won't budge.
    Please help!

Just connected my ethernet cable directly to my macbook, and the internet is working fine. So is this an issue with my router then?

  • TS1398 My macbook is connected to the internet, but my iPad just stopped connecting.  I have "forgotten" the network and restarted, and I have "turned off" the iPad.  It still says it's not connected to the internet, but the wifi signal is strong.

My ipad was working, and then just said it wasn't connected to the internet.  I have forgotten the network and rejoined, I have turned off the ipad (slid on the arrow), and still no luck.  The macbook is working with no problem.  Help.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Only using WiFi for connecting to the internet

I'm hoping to get a Pay & Go iPhone in January. O2 provide unlimited browsing for the first year, but after that you have to pay £10 per month, or you can opt out. I would want to opt out, and just use the internet in free WiFi hotspots (like College, for example).
Do any applications (like Mail, for example) use the internet of their own accord, or will I only be charged if I actually use them (outside of a WiFi hotspot)?
Furthermore, is there a way of disabling internet access over 3G, EDGE, and GPRS?
    Thanks,
    Will

The answer to all your questions is no. Unless you put the phone in Airplane mode it will use whatever data connection is available - so if you are on wifi and it hiccups, you will use GSM/Edge.
If you open mail, safari, maps, weather or anything else, it will try to do a data connection and it doesn't care what is available.
Some carriers will put a data block on the phone - at least in the US, and they way the phone will NOT do data over GSM/Edge/GPRS. I am not sure if O2 offers this, but you can ask. Just make sure to ask if Texting (SMS) is still available if you care about that.
10 pounds per month is about half what we pay in the US.

  • Using iPad when connection to the internet is by ethernet cable

I'm going to be at Oxford this summer and hoped to leave my laptop home and just use my iPad2. There is wifi in the public spaces but to connect to the internet in the dorm, you must bring your own ethernet cable. The second part of my question is that I have the 3G iPad. Is there anyway to make that available in England?

CDMA vs. GSM: What's the Difference? | News & Opinion | PCMag ...
Code division multiple access - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is the protocol used for most all US cellular service. GSM is the protocol used in Europe. Unless there is a cellular provider in England that can provide CDMA service and is a partner with whomever provides your cell service in the US, then you would not be able to use your cellular capability. This has no effect on your other wireless.
