Trying to use QuickTime to convert music to ringtones

I'm trying to use QuickTime Pro to convert an MP3 file to a ringtone for my Nokia 6101 phone, and I am saving the tone as an AMR 3GPP file with the extension of .amr, but phone keeps on saying it doesn't support the format 3GPP, and the file's icon says "3GPP." Does anyone know of a way to correct this?

Simon-
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I actually don't have a Nokia USB cable (although I should probably think about getting one); instead I set up my own WAP webpage (instructions are readily available online), made that page have a download link to the tone file I created using QuickTime, and then accessed the page on my phone and downloaded the file.
I'm not sure about what you need for a direct connection; I haven't tried it.

I'm trying to use my iPad for music on my apple tv and my airplay compatible speaker. I want to use them at the same time and the music app on my iPad only allows me to listen to one at a time. I have to chose apple tv or speaker. Anyone know how to play both at the same time? Thanks!

    Hi there,
the 4 digit pin is usually default to 0000 or 1111.
If pairing, it can also be anything you choose, providing that you enter the same 4 digits into both items to pair.
    Good luck!

  • Trying to Use Mixer while playing music

Everytime I have the playhead paused, I can pull up the mixer with no problem but when I begin playback the mixer leaves the screen. How can I make adjustments if the mixer keeps leaving the screen?
Also, in the original Soundtrack, I was able to use Master Envelopes to add effects or Fade volume of the entire mix. In ST Pro, the master envelope just includes Transpose and Tempo! How do I fade the volume down at the end of the song?

On the first point of the mixer it's probably just a limitation of the program (which lacks the true DAW nature). In other words it can't compute real time changes to the mix.
On the point of fading, there are buttons on the toolbar that allow you to select audio and fade in and out in the Waveform editor.

  • Problem in converting music to ringtone

Not getting proper file type i.e. m4a while creating music file to AAC version ? So whats the problem?

    Hi Whitts1,
On my N80, I've to place the files under the directory "/Sound clips/Digital sounds" in order to use the music as a ringtone. You may want to check if you had placed it there.
The other possible issue is whether E65 supports the codec format of the music file. I supposed that your E65 can play this file. If not, you may want to convert it to ACC or MP3.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers.

  • Audio upsampling using Quicktime: best export settings?

I'm using Quicktime to convert audio from 32 kHz to 48 kHz, for use in FCE/FCP. Quicktime gives me several options for export settings. I want to make the conversion lossless, without increasing the size of the audio file too much.
These are the settings I'm using so far:
    Format: Linear PCM
    Channels: Stereo (L R)
    Rate: 48 kHz
Sample Rate Converter Settings: Quality: Best
Linear PCM Settings: Sample size: 16 bits
Are these settings the best choices? Does anyone have experience doing this kind of upsampling?
Here are the other options in Quicktime:
    Format: Linear PCM, A-Law 2:1, IMA 4:1, MACE 3:1, MACE 6:1, QDesign Music 2, Qualcomm PureVoice, and mu-Law 2:1
Channels: 2 Discrete Channels, Mono, Stereo (L R)
Rate: there are other choices, but I know 48 kHz is what I want
    Advanced Settings:
Sample Rate Converter Settings: Faster, Fast, Normal, Better, Best
Linear PCM Settings (when Linear PCM is the format): 8 bit, 16 bit, 24 bit, 32 bit (floating point checked), 32 bit (floating point unchecked).
The file size grows quickly as you increase the Linear PCM bit settings.
    PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 GHz 3GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT

What you have picked makes sense. The file will be 50% larger.

  • Strange error when using RH11 to convert .dita files to .html

I am trying to use RH11 to convert a bunch of .dita files to .html, but so far have had no success.  I have DitaOT installed in my program folders.
I've been opening robohelp, selecting new project -> import -> ditamap file.  select the ditamap to use, create a new folder for the project, hit next.
In the replace default XSLT file for conversion field, I put in the dita2html-base.xsl file.
In the DITA Open Toolkit home directory field, I navigate to the location of the DitaOT root folder, select it, and click finish.
When I click, finish, robohelp almost immediately gives me an error message saying "No error occurred", leading me to believe that I filled out all of the required fields correctly, but when I check the output folder I created, it is empty.
Any tips on things to try/ what I should change would be very appreciated (or if i'm trying to force RH to do something that it isn't normally able to do, that would be appreciated as well).

Can anyone show me how to do the translation extraction in this OAF version?

  • Using Quicktime to stream live internet content?

I've read the tutorial for both Quicktime 6 and 7 here, and anything else I could find about this, so please forgive me if this is a silly, or redundant question.
I've been trying to use Quicktime to embed a shoutcast stream for listeners who don't have access to, or aren't technically savy enough to open iTunes and type in a URL (there are a surprising number of these people.)
After reading several tutoirals, it seemed like the process would be quite simple. Open a new Quicktime player, connect to the playlist, save, and then link to or embed the file into an html document.
Another method was to embed the stream's IP itself using the same technique, only specify that the plugin is Quicktime.
These work. However, they don't work very well.
The stream is fine. Listening within Quicktime itself is fine. Listening with iTunes is fine. However, when listening through a browser the audio is jittery, and seems to skip quite a bit.
    Here's my code:
    [object CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" width="300" height="25" VIEWASTEXT]

    [param name="controller" value="true"]
    [param name="autostart" value="false"]
    [param name="qtsrcchokespeed" value="33600"]
    [/object]
Has anyone gotten this to work smoothly?
Would you be willing to share how you did it?

Funny, I've given the same advice to so many people.
I thought that a week was enough time to assume no reply would be forthcoming.
    color me mistaken!
I have actually solved this problem.
here's what was wrong and how I solved it:
    1. The above code does work, in that it loads a quicktime player, and will play the stream.
However, the reliability and quality are quite poor.
    2. Disable and intro or outro mp3 file you may have set up to play on your broadcast. At least under shoutcast, this is a source of many errors in terms of establishing a connection with Quicktime, and then suddenly changing the content, bitrate, sample rate and often the content tag.
    3. link to a quicktime file using the QTSRC tag.
this will tell quicktime that regardless of your ultimate conent (real time live stream which is theoretically not supported) that you want the browser plugin to use quicktime anyway.
    Example Code:
    [OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"
    CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab"
    WIDTH="300" HEIGHT="25" ]
    [PARAM NAME="src" VALUE="http://shoutcastip:port/listen.pls" ]
    [PARAM NAME="autoplay" VALUE="false" ]
    [EMBED PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"
    SRC="/quicktimefile_with_your_stream_embedded_init.mov" TYPE="image/x-quicktime"
    WIDTH="300" HEIGHT="25"
    QTSRC="http://shoutcastip:port/listen.pls"
    AUTOPLAY="flase" ]
    [/EMBED]
    [/OBJECT]
This is currently up and working fairly well.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Validation error when using a cutsomer converter

Hey i'm trying to use a customer converter to convert between an object and a string, i can get it to display but when i submit my form i get the error Validation Error: Value is not valid.

  • MPEG-2 : Jerky playback of recorded TV shows using QuickTime

    Hi
I am trying to use QuickTime to playback recorded TV shows on a new Intel Core Duo Mac Mini.
The MPEG files themselves have been captured using a Hauppauge WinTV card on a Windows machine - and on this machine (and every other Windows machine), the files play fine.
I have purchased the MPEG-2 QuickTime component for Mac OS X, but I have noticed that when I try to play the files on a Mac, playback seems to drop a frame or two every few seconds, resulting in jerky motion which becomes difficult to watch after a while!
I have tried playback on several macs - an iBook, iMac G5 and the Intel Mac Mini, at different resolutions, and all appear to suffer with the same problem. I am running QuickTime 7.0.4 - all Macs have sufficient RAM available, and using Activity Monitor it does not seem that the machines are overly loaded whilst playing.
Is there a to configure the MPEG-2 component to get around this problem? Or is there a limitation with the types of MPEG-2 file that the QuickTime component will play? Ideally, I do not want to have to transcode my TV recordings, just to get them to play properly on a Mac.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    John

Hi there - thanks for your reply.
It appears I may have mis-reported some information during my earlier post(sorry!). It appears that on the Intel Mac Mini, the clips will play fine in full-screen through QuickTime, but suffer quite badly when played back through FrontRow - as I mentioned earlier, the file jerks every second or so. (QT Playback on the other machines seems to vary in quality - but I am not as concerned about this at the moment - I just want to be able to view these videos in FrontRow!).
I ran the clip through the Fix Timestamps option in MPEG streamclip, but it found nothing to repair. When I show file info in MPEG streamclip, it reports:
    Type: MPEG program stream
    Duration: 1:04:28
    Data Size: 2.11 GB
    Bit Rate: 4.67 Mbps
    Video Tracks
    224 MPEG-2, 720 × 576, 16:9, 25 fps, 4.35 Mbps, upper field first
    Audio Tracks:
    192 MP2 stereo, 48 kHz, 256 kbps
    Stream Files:
    TestTVRecording.MPG (2.11 GB)
So it seems that the problem, at least on the Intel Mini, is limited to FrontRow.
Surely, though, Front Row is just using the same QuickTime playback mechanism as QuickTime Player itself?! What other processing could FrontRow be doing during playback that would have such an imact?
I am looking to use the Mac Mini as a HTPC - I have it hooked up to my TV and am hoping to use it to play recorded TV shows from my Windows box. I've only had the box a couple of days, and am quite surprised that a dual core intel machine is struggling so badly with a simple mpeg2 file that my old 1ghz windows laptop will quite happily play!!
I appreciate that FrontRow is in it's infancy, but even so, I wasn't expecting my new machine to be struggling like this!
    Any further suggestions greatly appreciated.
    John

  • Using Quicktime for all Video Types

I'm trying to use Quicktime for some WMV files, and I downloaded the "flip4mac" program, but it still isn't working. I can open the video and play it on Quicktime, but I can't skip around or anything. Is there something else I need?

If you happen to own a copy of Microsoft Office it contains Windows Media Player for Mac. It is only selected when doing the custom installation. It does not install during the standard install. Even when you select it, you will have to run the installer to get it to run. Once it is set up it works fine.
I have also used Flip 4 Mac with no issues and recently started using VLC, which is also needed if you use Handbrake to rip DVD's.

  • Trying to use Imovie to create a movie using a Mac OSX 10.6.7, 3.2 g Intel core. Using clips from my Sony CRX 150 and need to remove sound in order to add music to the movie. HEELLLP!

OK, I 'm attempting my first movie here using this Mac OSX Snow Leopard with IMovie. I have clips I created from an 8mm Movie projector copied on my Sony CRX 150 and the sound of the projector is all over these clips and I have no idea how to remove that before adding music. So far this has been great and this is my first bump in the road. Also I notice tho, that the icon for my camcorder has disappeared from the desktop and looks like I'm gonna have trouble "ejecting" it in order to shut things down!!!  HELLLLP!

Thanks. I tested it out and you were correct. I loaded 2 .dv movies from my external HD back onto my internal HD, and got them re-imported into iMovie, took a few short clips from each of the 2 iMovie events and pasted them into a new project in the Project Browser. Then I deleted these 2  "source clips" from my internal HD, closed iMovie and then re-opened it and found that iMovie would NOT export the smaller clips for a "highlights" .4mv movie without the "source clips" being available.
I read your link on Quicktime. It talks about mostly trimming, which is what I did with each iMovie event before I took each one as a project to export as a smaller .4mv file. But if I use Quicktime (do I need QT Pro or basic), what advantage is it to me to use QT over iMovie (I must admit I am a novice at iMovie and have never used QT or QT Pro as a tool)? Will it then convert any edits I make to a .m4v movie or do I need iMovie to do that?
Does QT allow trimming multiple segments out of a movie during one edit session, or can you only do 1 at a time? By that I mean that, for example, when I use Sonys Picture Motion Browser for my .mts movies, you can only set one Start and one End point for each edit/trim you do: it does not allow you to set multiple Start Stop points like iMovie allows in its Event or Project browser. You can only do one "trim" at a time, save it and then reopen to do another trim. not very useful.

  • No audio when using Compressor to convert DVD .VOB files to Quicktime...

    Hello,
From a previous post that I found, my understanding is that you can use Compressor to convert DVD .VOB files to quicktime files. I've tried this several different ways but I only get video and no audio. Is it possible to also get audio?
    Thanks!

    Hi:
As far as I know, no way to make ANY conversion from a VOB file using Compressor.
You can download MPEG Streamclip for free and extract the elementary streams from the VOB files . . . of course, you can do it from your own DVDs, not from commercial ones.
