Trying to use the Airport Utility it repeatedly asks me for a password

It has the trying to access loading bar pop up for 10 seconds, then asks me for the password, which I type in. It then accepts it and loads some more.... and then asks for the password again.
One time it eventually loaded up so I could configure, but most of the time it just repeats this indefinitely, and when the loading bar finally hits the end (after asking 15 times for the password) it goes back to the beginning.
This repeats until I get frustrated and quit trying or it gives me an error message telling me to make sure the connection is valid (error 10057). Obviously its a valid connection because I'm posting this right now.

With the phone connected look in iTunes. Click on the phone's name. Is Encrypt Backup checked? At some time in the past it was checked and you entered a password to encrypt the backup. In general this is a smart thing to do, but you need to remember the password. After the first time it will not ask again. If you have a Mac the password may be in your keychain. The good news is that you get as many tries as you want to guess the password. Think about what you might have entered as a password the first time you backed up the phone. To speed up the process uncheck "Encrypt backup". It will immediately prompt for the password.
If you have a corporate Exchange email account on the phone the requirement to encrypt may have come from your Exchange administrator. If this is the case try some old domain passwords.

Downloading the right file for XP?  Check to make sure that you are running XP SP3.

AirPort Utility is required if you need to set up or change the settings on an Apple AirPort router.  It is not required if you are simply connecting to the wireless network from a PC.

  • Would using a Apple Time Capsules be easier to use as you can use the Airport Utility to set everything up? Would using encryption affect the speed / durability / life span of the drive in a computer or Time Capsule?

Would using a Apple Time Capsules be easier to use as you can use the Airport Utility to set everything up?
OR would there be better programs out there that would do more than Airport Utility on a non Apple drive?
Would using encryption affect the speed / durability / life span of the drive / Fusion drive in a computer or Time Capsule?

    1. Time Capsules are the easiest device to setup for Time Machine.
    2. Sorry this is unclear. There are a huge number of routers available that have far superior controls than apple routers.. some support Time Machine.. most don't. They negate your question 1. in being difficult to setup. And alot of 3rd party devices that claim Time Machine compatibility are unreliable.
    3. Encryption is irrelevant.

I am not 100% what isn't allowed.. but I am assuming you want to spread the backup across the two disks.. internal TC and 6TB external.. this is not possible.. It has to be one or the other. TC has no way to build a raid JBOD or anything else. Nor would you want to as that is the most likely to fail and kill your data.
Let me add, backing up 6TB over USB on TC.. will be the most excruciating experience of your life.. cf child birth or passing kidney stones.. large ones.. being the male equivalent.

I'm guessing it needs a password to update your system - that is, the administrator password. Most software needs this when you install it.
This is the password you (or someone) chose when you first switched on your computer.

  • 11n AirPort 5GHz Band configuration using the Airport utility for PC

I am trying to configure a new AirPort Extreme Base Station to operate in the 5GHz band. I am using a PC with the Airport utility to connect to the base station. Using the utility, in the base station manual setup I am able to select 802.11n (802.11a compatible) however I am unable to select a channel in the 5GHz band. Also, once I update the settings (5 GHz band) to the base station it goes to channel 1 which is in the 2.4 GHz band. As a result, I have the following 2 questions:
    1) How do I set up my base station to operate in the 5GHz band?
    2) How can I specify a channel in the A band?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Windows XP

You should be able to configure if the Airport Extreme (n)'s LAN ethernet is plugged into your ethernet. If the WAN is plugged, you will be blocked untill you specifically setup the AEXBS to let it be configured over the WAN port. But to do that you need to be able to configure, so see my first statement. Or use wireless, as someone else has suggested.

  • HT5622 I had to change my iTunes password. Now, when I try to download a song, it repeatedly asks me for my password. This is frustrating! Can anyone tell me what I can do about this??

I had to change my iTunes password. Now, when I try to buy a song, it repeatedly asks me for the password and doesn't seem to register it and go to the next step. It's becoming very frustrating. And, equally, if not more frustrating, is the fact that there is no simple way to contact Apple to find out how to fix the problem. I hope someone here has the solution.
    Thank you!

After you changed the PW did you go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and sign out and sign back in?

  • I paid for Lightroom and have been using it for over a year now. Ive just tried to open the app and it's asking me for a serial number.

I purchased LR just over a year ago, has been working fine until I tried to open the app this evening and it's now asking me for my serial number. There is also no past records of product purchase in my CC account. Has anyone had this problem before and how can I fix it as I am now back on a 30 day trial.

Have you subscribed to the creative cloud photography package?
If you have, does Lightroom show as being available to install from the CC application manager?
Did you update your Lightroom just before this problem started?
    What operating system?

  • How do you get the itunes store to not ask you for your password?

Please help. I used to have this happen, but now it asks for my password everytime i buy an app.

I know it's a very tedious process, but unfortunately you cannot disable it. It's for your own security and iTunes credit. For example, without this, someone may use your credit card or iTunes credit to buy a song, app, book, etc. without your permission. This method prevents that.

  • Kids are using the WiFi all night long and not sleeping... How can I temporarily turn off the WiFi at night using the Airport Extream or Airport Utility?  I must keep the guest network up as I have a tenant in an apartment over my garage using that.

My kids are up all night streaming Netflix and using the WiFi on their iPads and Apple TV. The next day they don't want to get up and go to school. Is there a way I can set up a separate access point for just the kids in AirPort Extreme and then turn that one off when i go to bed? Or somehow turn off the main network when I go to bed, without having to reconfigure the entire router the next day, and then simply turn it back on the next morning?  I have to keep the Guest Network up as I have a paying tenant living in an apartment over my garage that uses that network.
In the event it's not possible with the AirPort Extreme, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

You can configure the AirPort Extreme for Timed Access using the AirPort Utility. Basically what you are doing is restricting the time of a wireless device by its MAC address has access to the base station's wireless network.
To access this feature: AirPort Utility > Select the Extreme > Edit > Network tab > Enable Access Control: Timed Access Control...

  • What program(s) opens the airport utility download file

I am installing on PC and have nothing to open a dmg file - any suggestions

1} do I bypass the router and hook the Airport Extreme directly to the phone line or
That won't work as the Extreme does not have a built-in modem. Your older router must be a combination modem & router or gateway device.
    2) (as the guide suggests) connect an ethernet cord from the LAN output on the existing router to the WAN input on the Airport - I have tried both with no success so
This is the correct connection for the Ethernet cable. The key now is to reconfigure the Extreme as a bridge. This will allow the existing router to continue to provide the necessary NAT & DHCP services for network clients connected to either router to gain Internet access.
To configure the Extreme as a bridge, either connect to the Extreme's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN port of the Extreme, and then, using the AirPort Utility, change the following these setting:
AirPort Utility (v5.x) > Select the Extreme > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection tab
    Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update to apply the new settings.

  • My MacBook Pro is currently online via wifi, but the airport utility doesn't recognize the airport time capsule base station and has not backed up in 10 days

My early 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch is currently online, with good (albeit slow... although that is due to the service provider) internet connectivity via wifi.  The icon shows that I am connected to my network with full bars.  I use an Airport Time Capsule as my wireless router, purchased late last year, and it has worked well until now.  Internet comes via cable modem (provided by the cable company), and can be patchy and quirky, so I am often rebooting the modem, but the airport wifi router typically does not need to be rebooted with the modem to regain connectivity.
My problem is that my time capsule has not backed up in more than 10 days.  When I went to investigate this, it claims it cannot find the time capsule.  when I open the airport utility on the laptop it claims there is no airport connected (although there is the green light next to the internet icon).  I checked on this using the airport utility app on my iPad, and it has no problem identifying the router as an airport time capsule.  I did update the firmware on the router using the app on the iPad, but it made no difference to the laptop.
First question: Do you think this is a problem with the Airport router or my MacBook?
Second Question: what can I do about it?
My MacBook feels like it is on its last legs anyway, so I am currently looking at replacements, but I really want to make sure it is backed up in case it dies before the new one arrives!!  On the other hand, we have serious power issues here, and while the router is on a UPS, the UPS battery is basically fried and conks out in about 5 minutes, so the Airport is constantly being cycled on and off, which I worry could also be causing problems with the proper operation of the device (although the fact that it works with the iPad makes me think that is not the case... but I don't really know).
    Thanks!

  • Renamed Airport Express with the Airport utility, but iTunes shows old name

I renamed my two Airport Expresses using the Airport Express utility because I have moved them in the house and the old names don't make sense anymore. In the AirPort Express utility, I can see the new names. However, iTunes (and Apple Remote on the iPhone) do not recognize these new names, they are still showing the old names. How can I get these devices to recognize the new names?

Actually I have solved my own problem. I hadn't realized that the Airport Utility has essentially two names for each Airport. There is the name of the device as the Airport Utility sees it, and then a different name called the iTunes Speaker name (look under manual setup in the Music area). This latter is the name that appears in iTunes. As soon as I changed this, iTunes recognized the new name.

  • So my airport extreme recently had some nat/dns issue and in the airport utility displayed a warning about it and to correct it. I wasn't sure what to do so i pressed the resolve icon and now my guest network is not working.

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.
