Trying to win my friend over to Mac but you guys are making it hard

My friend has iTunes for Windows (because I told her that an iPod was the world's greatest invention). So she installs the software and now, every time she tries to log on, she gets the "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was reset. make sure your network connection is active." Which would make sense if I wasn't able to access iTunes via her network from next door using my Airport. So she calls Apple and they tell her they would be happy to help her purchase their online music if she would kindly give them a credit card number so they can charge $50.00 to it before they answer any questions for her. I suggested that she might want to re-register with iTunes until she told me that she had a $45.00 pre-paid account sitting there which iTunes is now telling her is worth $1.65. How in the world am I going to sell my friend on Apple products when this is the service she is getting?

Instead of bashing OS's and having a "my OS is better than yours chest-butting party", it might be better to focus on the actual problem.
Michael, we need a bit more information from you in order to help troubleshoot the problem:
1) How is your friend connecting to the Internet? (DSL or Dial-up)
2) Is your friend connected through a router and what kind?
3) Is your friend running a software firewall (what kind) and Anti-virus software (what kind)?
Nine times out of ten, the problem is going to be the software firewall and/or the Anti-virus software causing the iTunes disconnect. If you’re on Cable/DSL, and if you are connected through a router, and if your friend is using a software firewall and/or AV software, I would recommend temporarily disabling the software firewall and/or the AV software. If this works, be sure to re-enable your software firewall and your AV software when you're done.
Once you know that the problem is one of these two pieces of software, then go to the software developer’s web site and look for support in getting iTunes to work correctly with their software.
Let me know what you find out, and if you need more info...
Z.

My hard drive went out one of my Macs and I am trying to install logic studio on another Mac but the serial number is invalid. What are my options?

Check that the serial you are using is the correct one..
Typically the problem is either you are misreading the serial and therefore typing it in wrong. Check you are correctly entering zeros or O.. and so on....
    or...
You bought the LP9 upgrade version.... which requires the LP8 full serial as well.
If it is the LP9 upgrade serial.. (and not the LP9 full serial) you must enter your original LP8 full serial first and then the upgrade serial for LP9.. when it asks for it.
Failing that.. you can obtain a replacement serial from Apple.. using this form.....

Ask the same question in Adobe's Creative Cloud forums, your issue is with them not your iMac.

  • HT2499 I I'm trying to play a movie on my Mac but it doesn't play it. What is wrong?

I I'm trying to play a movie on my iMac but it doesn't play it. What is wrong?

Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac.  Tell us your Mac OS X version.  It is not running an iOS version.
By playing a movie, are you talking a commercial DVD movie with Apple's DVD player software?
If it is, was it purchased in the same country as the Mac?

  • HT4623 I upgraded my ipad to ios 7 and it's one requesting a passcode  have no idea what it is because I never had a passcode. Tried to connect to iTunes on my mac but still won't work

I upgraded my ipad to ios 7 and now it's asking for a passcode. Have no idea what to enter because I never needed a passcode. Connected it to iTunes on my mac but still doesn't work

    Hi Lmprettyman,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This article has more information on passcode lock and how to return your iPod to working order:
iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer
If you see one of following alerts, you need to erase the device:
"iTunes could not connect to the [device] because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the [device] before it can be used with iTunes."
"You haven't chosen to have [device] trust this computer"
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.
    All the best,
    Jeremy

    Good morning
I am trying to upgrade my iPhone via my macbook but the following message keeps coming up and the download does not work
"There are purchased items on the iPhone “Mark Price’s iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this"
Please advise how I can transfer these files, I am not sure what files are in question.
I've only had the MacBook a couple of days, I am PC savvy but this is all new to me so please keep it as simple as possible. I am a brit based in Bahrain.
    Regards
    Mark Price

okay I've done everything regarding the transfer process (via file>transfer purchases) and syncing, so everything on my iPhone device seems to have been transferred to my iMac... however, I still get that message ("There are purchased items on the iPhone..."), trying to upgrade the iOS Have tried several times the same process of hitting transfer purchases via file, but nothing seems to make that message go away! Would have been nice to know which files I actually do need to transfer, which I don't get any info on of course...
Starting to get really annoying this thing.. Any smart suggestions what's going on?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It needs Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup, insert the disc and upgrade. Finally, go to  > Software Update and install the most recent version. You'll be able to install that app now.
If you want, you can use Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx Open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. See if your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • I TRIED TO COPY AN APPLICATION FROM A MAC TO A USB. THEN I TRIED TO OPEN IT IN MY NEW MAC BUT IT SAID THAT I NEED TEH POWER PC STUFF. WHAT SHALL I DO??

IF U DONT KNOW WHAT I AMM TALKING ABOUT LOOK HERE
IF U DONT KNOW, ANSWER THIS IF U CAN: HOW TO COPY A APPLICATION INTO A USB SO U CAN OPEN IT IN ANOTHER MAC PROPPALY??

I must have posted it over one hundred times on this forum, but I am happy to copy over one of my typical responses to those who have the "PowerPC app not working in Lion or Mt. Lion" problem for your consideration:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will open your data files, modify them and save them;
    4.  Install Snow Leopard Server (with Rosetta) into Parallels or VMWare Fusion for concurrent use of your PowerPC applications with Lion or Mt. Lion:
Apple has now restarted to sell Snow Leopard Server at a 95% discount over its original price: only $19.99 + sales tax & shipping; telephone orders only, call 800-MYAPPLE (800-692-7753) -  Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A
NOTE:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics may not work well or at all in virtualization.
Workaround #3 appears to be the OP's best solution in this case.

  • IPad Air doesn't recognize podcasts I have already downloaded. When connected to my Mac, Podcast list is empty. I have tried transferring all my purchases to my Mac, but only apps

I have been transferring purchases, and recently, I decided to check if all of my purchases were really transferred. Unfortunately, some of my podcasts were skipped. The podcasts remain undetected when I click on the Podcast list under my iPad's name on iTunes. I have tried to make a new user account on my Mac then transferred the purchases. All my apps, books and songs were transferred, but those podcasts still did not transfer. I would like to know a way to reset my Podcasts app so that it would transfer those remaining podcasts. Some of my podcasts are no longer available on iTunes, and so it's impossible to download them again. Thanks in advance.

I have already solved the problem by using Macroplant's iExplorer. Thanks, Macroplant!

  • Tried to put OS Mavericks on my mac, but not enough memory. Seem to be stuck and can't get back to my original set up. Any ideas how I get out of this. Thanks.

I tied to install OS Mavericks onto my mac and now find there is not enough memory. Any idea how I get back to my original set up. Bit of a novice, so any advice welcome. Thanks.

Not sure what you mean as it shouldn't have installed at all if it didn't meet the system requirements.
But here are some step by step instructions to revert.

I'm trying to empty my Trash on my desk top but a window pops up saying "The operation can't be completed because the item "UpgradeDockTail" is in use.
It then has stop or continue to choose from but nothing happens when I click on either one. What does this mean and how do I stop it?

Log out, log back in, and try again. If that doesn't work, reboot.

  • How can I keep iTunes on my Mac but the Movies on an external hard drive and still have them accessible to my Apple TV etc through Home Sharing?

I have a 2TB external hard drive that I want to store my ripped movies on and free up space on my Mac. How can I do this?

Is there a reason you don't want to keep your entire iTunes folder on the external.
Everything will work just fine and it is simpler if everything in iTunes is in one location (the iTunes folder).
Copy entire /Music/iTunes/ folder to external.
    Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external.
That is all you need to do.

I have tried everything I can find online to correct this.  Nothing works and all I can find online is dated 2008.  Surely Apple has found a cure for this problem by now.  This happened with my hp Photosmart Premium c309a as well.  I thought it was a printer problem but It's happening now with the 7510 that is only a week old.  And please, if you have a cure, don't explain in high tech computer language.  I'm ok with the computer but not that up on high tech stuff.  Thanks.

It is connected wirelessly.  The other printer was connected with a USB.  Getting it to print again---usually by just turning printer off and back on again.  This usually results in getting 1 page printed.  Then I have to do it again.  I have deleted printer and reinstalled.  I have changed IP from automatic to manual.  I unplugged printer for a short time (1-2 minutes) and plugged back in.  I have restarted both IMAC and printer after each process.  This is really frustrating and time consuming, driving me nuts.
