TS 140 Windows Server 2012 R2 install failure error 0x80070570
Recently bought 2 TS140 70A4001PUX servers with Xeon E3 1245 v3 attempting to install eval version of server 2012 R2 (latest on site April refresh) and keep getting the following error at around 62% in the getting files ready for installation:
Windows can not install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570
I have seen web search results for various MS OSes that indicate this is due to bad memory, corrupt installation media or download, Nic cards, BIOS settings etc.
To rule out memory ran memtest for hours with no errors against the crucial 32GB mem 2 (CT2KIT102472BD160B) also tried installing against the 4GB mem that came with the system. I think I have done enough to rule out the memory.
Installation media, I downloaded the ISO from Microsoft's eval site three different times using Firefox, Chrome and IE burned the image to DVD 2 different times and tried numerous times using Rufus on an 8GB USB stick in different USB ports. I’ve tried installing the datacenter version with both GUI and server core options. Next thing I’m going to try is to install Server 2012 from an older ISO that I have used successfully many times in the past will update later though I would prefer to install fresh from R2.
I also have the Lenovo 1GBPS Ethernet I350-T2 Server adapter by Intel for ThinkServer. I have tried installing with it inserted and with it removed, also with nothing even disabling the on board Nic in the BIOS. Same result.
The SSD drive I have is the Samsung 850 Pro 128GB. After the failure I am able to mount this drive on another machine and see that a significant amount of files get copied to it so I ruled out the sata cable. I also tried with another no SSD WD HD with the same result. I even break out at install run dispart and clean the partitions.
Excerpts from setupact.log on SSD:

For BIOS settings I have reverted back to defaults tried IDE instead of AHCI and also tried CSM support enabled and disabled, NIC both enabled disabled.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks.

In case anyone is interested the Server 2012 R@ eval ISO I had issues with is the following file:

Windows Server 2012 Virtual Machine Failure
I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 Host machine. In Hyper-V, I created a WS 2012 VM. The VM starts out OK, but after a few hours of work (configure and install SharePoint 2013), starts throwing errors (Machine had to re-boot). Eventually, the VM becomes
unstable and unable to re-boot. Last attempt threw this error in Hyper-V Event Manager:
'BISP2013' has encountered a fatal error. The guest operating system reported that it failed with the following error codes: ErrorCode0: 0x7A, ErrorCode1: 0x400207A0, ErrorCode2: 0xC0000185, ErrorCode3: 0x57BA6860, ErrorCode4: 0x40F4234. If the
problem persists, contact Product Support for the guest operating system. (Virtual machine ID 7E140D89-25B9-4D3B-835B-7BB882C629BB)
This has happened on multiple attempts occasionally ending with Error 0Xc000021a. Creating WS 2012 R2 VMs does not present this problem.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
MarioHi Mario,
This should not happen here .
My suggestion is to download a new server2012 ISO and reinstall .
Also please refer to following "best practice configurations for sharepoint 2013":

Downloaded Evaluation Version of Windows Server 2012 Standard- install is asking for product key
I downloaded the evaluation version of Windows server 2012 standard from the Microsoft TechNet site.
When I try to install server 2012 as a new virtual, I'm prompted for the product key for server 2012.
I do not have the key. How do I get the key? Or, why is this happening on a evaluation version?
Does anyone out there have the key for Windows server 2012 standard evaluation version, or know where I can get it?
Thank you.
rhinoguy1Hi rhinoguy1,
Please down load ISO from following website :

I have a windows server 2012 Hyper V machine which acts as a web front end for my sharepoint 2013 farm.
It is set to install updates automatically.
I have 4 patch to install to correct an issue with my search:

These are Microsoft patches
Whenever I try to install them I receive an error
Googling the error, I have tried extracting the file and using CMD prompt to install the xml file to install but to no avail.
I have installed Windows Identity Foundation as a role. It is necessary for this to be
I have also noticed that all updates for a couple of weeks have failed. I have 2 other servers in the farm, both of which are joined to the same private network cannot look for updates with another error. Not sure if these are related.
Anyone know of anything like this?
Thanks in advanceright-click the file and select properties.
On "Digital Signatures" the tab, select the "Microsoft Corporation" entry and click "Details"
In the "Digital Signature Details" dialog, click "View Certificate"
In the "Certificate" dialog, click "Install Certificate..."
In the "Certificate Import Wizard" dialog, select "Local Machine" (though current user might work, didn't use it, so I can not attest to it) and click "Next"
Select the "Place all certificates in the following store" option and click "Browse"
In the "Select Certificate Store" dialog, select "Trusted Publishers" and click "Ok"

You should now be at the "Completing the Certificate Import Wizard" step of the "Certificate Import Wizard" ... click "Finish"
You should get "Import was successful"
You should now be able to install the package.

Installing Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2
Now that SP1 has been released, it is supported to run Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2
But since it is not yet possible to download Exchange 2013 with integrated SP1 (slipstreamed), is the following installation procedure supported:
- Install Exchange 2013 (without SP1) on Windows Server 2012 R2
- Install SP1 on top of Exchange 2013
If this is not supported, can someone tell me when the Exchange 2013 with integrated SP1 (slipstreamed) download will be released?yes the SP1 is the full product. if you need step by step instruction to migrate to this new version you can get info here : http://buenoflex.com/install-exchange-2013-sp1/

Hi there,
As per MS - SharePoint 2013 Enterprise SP1 is compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2.
I have Windows Server 2012 R2 installed - now it does not let me install SharePoint 2013 Enterprise (Standard without SP1).
AND SP1 can ONLY be installed AFTER SharePoint 2013 Enterprise is installed.
So how to install SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with SP1 on Windows Server 2012?
Thanks. You can download it at the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center:
https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter/default.aspx
or at the Microsoft Developer Network:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/
Please note that if you do not have access to either, you will have to work with the vendor who sold you SharePoint 2013 to get you a new ISO with SP1, or you will have to find a way to make a slipstreamed version on your own. I'm really hoping you
have VLSC or MSDN access, as this will make things much easier for you. -
We are using Windows Server 2012 Standard installed in VMWare / Virtual machine and to access this we use vSphere client and Remote Desktop Connection / service was already enabled and was working fine with User PCs / laptops remote desktop into the server
2012, until it gave an error message of: Remote session was disconnected because there are no remote desktop license servers available to provide a license. Please contact the server administrator. whilst logging into the server.
We DON'T use Active Directory nor and we don't use domain and not looking to use it any-time soon.
I checked the RD Licensing Diagnoser and it says the grace period has expired and the licensing mode for the remote desktop session host server is not configured. I have checked the Remote Desktop Gateway has been stopped and I tried to start it and it
resumed to stop, here I assume its where the licensing part comes in to re-enabled this.
I have been trying to follow these articles online: http://ryanmangansitblog.com/2013/03/27/deploying-remote-desktop-gateway-rds-2012/ and http://www.concurrency.com/blog/rds8-add-a-licensing-server-2/#Install the overview part that I cannot get into,
because I think we have to be is AD DS for this which we don't. Is there a way around this for non domain / just standalone set-up? Is it a must / requirement we need to be in a domain in order for Remote Desktop Connection to work?
Also, we have a Windows Server 2012 RDS CALs - 10 (software and licence key), will the licence key work for the Windows 2012 Server Standard? We do not want to install the other Server mentioned which comes with CAL / licence key as its time consuming
to reinstall other programs. I have installed Server role service of Remote Desktop Licencing and automatically installed other associated services needed. in the RD Licencing Manager, the Server had a red cross and I "Activate Server"
where I followed: http://www.concurrency.com/blog/rds8-add-a-licensing-server-2/#Install in Install Licences section and I have used the licence key of CAL - 10 mentioned above; it stated I have successfully completed the install licences wizard and displayed:
10 Windows Server 2012 - RDS Per User CAL installed, and in the RD Licensing Manager the server turned into a green tick and added the licence.
I then tested the Remote desktop connection from my PC and the same error message was there and checked the RD Licensing Diagnoser and the same error messages was there. I haven't restart the services of Remote Gateway / the server itself; do I really
need to reboot server?
Any advice / guidance would be very much appreciated and this is a urgent matter.
Thank you for your time.Hotfix Released here:

Create ISO of Windows Server 2012 R2 Physical Server - NOT VM
I have a windows server 2012 R2 installed on a physical server. I have windows patches and other firmware upgrades on it. I would like to create a gold image in the form of ISO, so that i can use this ISO and build my other servers. I have read many many
blogs but none of them have clear steps. I know there are tons of ways to do this for VM, but this is for a physical machine. I have used sysprep, completely messed up my server, i am used there is no warning or anything listed on technet for using this software.
If anyone has able to do this successfully please let me know. Please don't send me instructions for VM, this is not a VM, it is a physical server. Thanks in advance.Okay, it's been a while since I worked with MDT and my memory was bad. The best thing to do is to download MDT (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40796
for the 2013 version) and its documentation. One of the documents is a Quick Start Guide. It gives you step-by-step instructions on how to do what you are asking. It doesn't make sense to replicate all that content in a forum when there is
already a published document.
Then, if you have problems with performing the tasks, come back to this forum and ask specific questions about the issues you are encountering.
Note, the documentation assumes working with Windows 8.1, but it also says it supports it for Windows Server.
. : | : . : | : . tim
Thanks Tim. I started working on it, i do have few questions:
i) Why do i need 3 machines as per the document "Quick Start Guide for Lite Touch Installation.docx"? I am not quite following here, can i just do it on 2 servers, 1 which will capture the image and server 2 will be used to build using captured image.
ii) I was able to get till Step 41. (page 17 from doc 'Quick Start Guide for Lite Touch Installation.docx'), i do see the ISO created, but it is only 300 MB? My original ISO was 4 gb. I don't think i can just copy the 300 MB iso and build another machine, i
am lost here, any advice is appreciated.

Overlapped I/O error 997 installing SQL Server 2014 Express on Windows Server 2012 R2
I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2014 Express on a Windows Server 2012 R2 system. When I do the install, it fails (several times) with an "Error: 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.". From searching the web, I can see many people
have had this problem with this installer and other non-SQL server installers.
I've tried every solution I can find discussed, but none help with my problems The system is fully updated, with the exception of the KB2538243 (VC 2008 SP1 redist), which is probably failing for the same reason.
I've tried removing several updates mentioned in other articles (KB2918614). I've confirmed that I'm not using a temporary profile.
Does anyone have an idea of how I can solve this issue?
Thanks,
Zack

System: Dell PowerEdge sc1420 with dual xeon and Adaptec 2420SA SATA RAID (supported by OS); 10 GB memory (2x4, rank 2, organization x4, in DIMM1 & DIMM2; 2x1, registered, organization x8, in DIMM3 & DIMM4)
This computer is currently running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise which was installed with no problems.
Objective: clean install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard on an otherwise unused RAID array disk set.
All attempts to boot from DVD result in loading of files (grey progress bar on bottom of screen), brief dark screen, then black screen with a blue windows logo for about 2 seconds and then a flash of about 10 lines of error notifications on a black screen
for about 1/4 second (unreadable), and then a reboot of the computer.
Coreinfo.exe confirms that cpus DO support NX and PAE; do NOT support VMX (virtual machine enhancements).
Attempts to run memtest.exe from boot disk tool-menu startup result in an error message that the memtest.exe file is corrupt.
Running memtest.exe from Windows 2008 R2 install disk results in all memory tests passed!
Attempted booting with multiple DVD's (some +R, some -R, all verified) burned from .iso. These DVD's were used successfully to install Windows Server 2012 R2 on an HP Pavilion. Also changed DVD drives just to rule out DVD hardware.
Running CHKDSK from Windows 2012 R2 on HP Pavilion shows no problems; running CHKDSK from Windows 2008 R2 on the Dell system on the same disks shows some problems. Running checkdisk on the Windows 2008 R2 install disk from the Windows 2008 R2 installed
system shows no problems. All disks burned and verified on same system.
Also attempted to boot from USB thumbdrive with copy of DVD on it. Same results: system loads files then reboots at first Windows logo. So that would rule out disk quality issues per se??
Started to try an upgrade rather clean install to see if any errors were announced. None were announced as the system went through much of the process. I aborted somewhere along the way before committing to the upgrade because 1) the most likely
outcome was it would not boot after install (I don't really need the practice in restoring); and 2) even if it did reboot, having a system that can't be repaired by booting the install disk is pointless.
All disks and raid arrays are recognized and usable by RAID controller card and by Windows Server 2008 R2. Disks are within spec for use with Adaptec 2420SA (1TB @ 300).
Is VMX (aka VT-x) actaully required for ANY install even though Hyper-V is not intended to be used? If so, it is too bad that the Microsoft system requirements (
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303418.aspx ) don't make that clear. And lack of VMX support really doesn't explain the memtest.exe "corruption" issue.
Or is it maybe something unique about the files on 2012 R2 disk (or disk image on USB) that are causing some problem with the chipset processing? But why?
My vote would be for the latter of the issues, but I have no clue why or if it is remediable. Suggestions? So here is what I think is the final understanding of this problem:
First, one additional piece of important information: The computer successfully moves into and through the Windows Boot Loader phase and succeeding phase ONLY for Windows 8.1 32-bit, but NOT for Windows 8.1 64-bit nor for Windows
Server 2012 R2 (only 64-bit).
The Windows Boot Manager phase (which precedes the Windows Boot Loader phase) is either 32-bit or 64-bit (64 –bit for this case) and is loaded by the 16-bit stub program (Bootmgr) which starts in real mode.
Windows Boot Loader of course runs in either 32-bit or 64-bit (64 –bit for this case) according to the product being installed.
By inference, the essential problem is occurring in conjunction with the loading of a WIM file to start the Windows Boot Manager.
The boot manager starts ok and generally shows its essential screens (Windows Boot Manager; Advanced Boot Options) or proceeds to load files for transition into Windows startup in the succeeding Windows Boot Loader phase (that doesn’t “boot” but rather
loads the system). This is best confirmed by the announced corruption of the memtest.exe file when selecting Windows Memory Diagnostic from the Windows Boot Manager Screen.
If allowed to continue loading files to pass control to the Windows Boot Manager, the type of abort and resulting immediate restart that occurs is that which you would associate with unhandled cpu exceptions (invalid instruction, memory out of range,
wild interrupt, etc.) that most of us have not commonly seen for 20 years (since beginning to use well behave OS’s from Windows NT 3.1 and on).
So, the problem obviously is due to a failure to properly mount the WIM file and/or properly access it (probably the latter) when running in 64-bit protected mode.
This is independent of the hardware on which the install disk is actually mounted (DVD or USB-flash), so it is NOT a hardware problem
per se.
Since the WIM is mounted early in the process, Boot Manager may well have loaded it using BIOS routines to access the physical device on which it resides rather than loading 32-bit or 64-bit drivers of its own.
Hence, if the BIOS does not “mount” the WIM in a way that is later fully compatible with access from the 64-bit systems being loaded, it could cause apparent file corruption.
If it is only partially incompatible some functionality may appear quite usable (like loading files) until later detected.
This is vague on my part, because the exact nature of the incompatibility cannot be readily determined from the information available.
But the consequence is the same: the system cannot boot from the install disk, either for initial installation or repairs.
Incidental conclusion: The 64-bit boot manager code for Windows Server 2008 does not exhibit this faulty behavior, but the 64-bit code for Windows Server 2012 does.
So the problem is not inherent with loading 64-bit server OS’s.
Expectations: If the system were to be upgraded using the features of the install disk while running an installed OS, say Windows Server 2008 R2, it might well succeed and yield a fully functional system upgraded to Windows Server 2012
R2 (because the installed operating system is started from discrete files, not from a WIM file).
However, in order to perform a disaster recovery using Windows resources (such as image backups from Windows Server Backup), one would have to presumably boot from a Windows Server 2012 64-bit install disk or Windows Server USB recovery drive.
Of course we know that the Windows Server install disk will not boot and we can be fairly sure that the problem will migrate to any Windows Server USB recovery drive that is created.
My inspection of a Windows 7 System Repair CD shows that is based exclusively on boot.wim, not discrete files!
Of course a generated image for a WIM for Windows 2012 USB recovery drive
might not have the flaw that drives this behavior, but it probably would.
Problem conclusion: A BIOS upgrade would be required for compatibility with Windows Server 2014 clean installation
and any maintenance; and none is available from the OEM.
Problem not resolved, but understood for future reference.
Thanks to Tim whose comments helped me focus my thinking. -

User Action
Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user
right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.
If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated
with this node might be removing the right.
I found following article:
"MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID" error when you install WID in Windows Server 2012
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832204/en-us
To work around the issue, use one of the following methods:
Assign the Log on as a service user right to NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the GPO that defines the user right.
Exclude the computer from the GPO that defines the user right.
We moved the SCCM server to OU where no policies were getting applied and then applied the new GPO to that OU. Restarted the server and we were able to install WSUS role.

Hi,
Every time we try to install KB3000850 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 (Virtual), it says it installs successfully, reboots, but then before the logon screen comes up it says "We couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes..." and it uninstalls
the update. Yet, when you look at installed updates, it shows KB3000850 yet it's still availabe when you look for new updates, and if you run the update again manually, it doesn't say that it's already installed. What gives? :)
