TS Licensing hotfix 983385 - "this update does not apply to your system"

So my license server has been deactivated, per http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2010/03/30/event-17-certificate-corruption-on-terminal-services-remote-desktop-license-servers.aspx.
This KB article:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983385 says there's a hotfix for this issue, with the following prerequisites:
To apply this hotfix, you must be running one of the following operating systems:
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Windows Server 2008
Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Windows Server 2008 R2
Ok, fine.  I'm running Server 2008 SP2.  Click the hotfix link and there's no non-R2 hotfix listed.  Download the R2 hotfix, thinking maybe it was labeled incorrectly, but it won't work.  Sure would be nice if I could get a hotfix for
my operating system.  What gives?

Oh, ok.  Read way down in the fine print, and it says:
Important Windows Vista hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows Vista" is listed on the Hotfix Request page. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating
systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows Vista" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.
Brilliant.  Does this actually make sense to anyone in the universe?  SERENITY NOW!

  • SMC fan update does not apply

As some of you know apple released a SMC fan update to overcome the issues experienced with overworking processors.
I assumed it was doing something to overcome the BSOD which generally happens to me when I am playing WOW from as cold start.
Just for you information, this update does not apply to our models and as of yet still nothing coming.
I will be talking to a Mac person this afternoon.
Just wondering if people are still experiencing the BSOD on the 'better' NVIDIA cards.

    2011-06-13 11:25:29.289 PatcherApplication[1249:e07] Verifying from caps:2011-06-13 11:25:29.289 PatcherApplication[1249:e07] Version does not match.
In English: You already have patched another Adobe product that uses an external shared library e.g. for Bridge or PDF handling an it has locked the installer database because an older version is not allowed to overwrite a newer version. Short of completely uninstalling everything, deletzing caps.db and then re-installing in correct order there is no way to resolve this, so if there is nothing crucial going on that would make the patch something to die for, simply leave everything as is...

  • Hot Fix error message for KB979344 "this update is not applicable to your computer", on Windows 7 64 bit with SP1

I've been having issues with an external Esata drive.  Instead of being seen as a removeable drive, it is seen as a hard drive.  This has caused us nothing but problems since our full disk encryption software automatically starts to encrypt
    the drive rendering it useless.
The real problem I'm having is installing the Hot Fix, KB979344, for this issue.  when tring to install, I get the message, "this update is not applicable to your computer"  I've looked and this hot fix doesn't seem to be part of SP1, but
I could be missing it.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Hi Keithk,
This hotfix is already contained in Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
Please add the registry key to check if the issue persists. (For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.  )
    Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Storage
Create a DWORD Value, name SATAHotplugPolicyOverride,
    set 1 in Value Data.
Restart the computer to check if it works.

"This software is not supported on your system."
    please help me thanks

OK, so the firmware is the same as mine, and yet Apple Support offered this EFI and SMC update packages, which should give a message that our computers are updated.
However, the update packages fail to run.
Did Apple neglect to give the correct update for the mid-2012 issue of MacBook Pro 13-inch?  I have the i7 Intel processor, instead of the i5, and I was sold this unit as having two processors, but the System info only lists a single processor.
Is one of the problems with Intel-based MacBook Pro units that the integration wasn't without bugs that cause processor hang when running the OS Lion, even with updates to 10.7.5?
Shouldn't the EFI and SMC updaters run on these machines as stated in the Apple Support article?
What will Apple do for these customers?

Windows Virtual PC KB958559 never installs. It says "This update is not applicable to your computer." Here are my details...

    Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, build 7600.16539.x86fre.win7_gdr.100226-1909
Any ideas? I have seen the other posts but nothing seemed to be a solution. Another strange behavior that may (or may not) be related is that when I try to load the "Turn Windows features on or off" the box loads blank.

Firstly, please read the following article on how to resolve the blank dialog box of “Windows Features”:
The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, or you receive an error message that includes
the following code when you try to use Windows Update: "0x80073712"
    Then,
empty the Temporary Internet files and %Temp% folder.
    At last, download
Windows Virtual PC again and install it.

  • HT202239 This computer does not meet the recommended system requirements for 3D titles.

    Hey guys.
Today I downloaded FCP 10.2 and when enabling 3D text this message appeared "This computer does not meet the recommended system requirements for 3D titles". I ignored it and continued working on the 3D text, everything looked fine. Could someone tell me what the difference is when working on a not compatible computer?
    Thanks!

I guess you have the minimum to download, but VRAM isn't enough for 3D.

The MacBook EFI Updater File that I downloaded from the Apple website for Support:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
--> shows my Model McBookPro 9,2 as needing
EFI Boot ROM version MBP91.00D3.B08 (EFI 2.9) (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1593)
    SMC version 2.2f44 (SMC 1.8) (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1633)
I downloaded and tried to run both the files
    MacBookProEFIUpdate2.9.dmg 9/19/12
    AND
    MacBookProSMCUpdate.pkg
as offered on this matrix, which instructs:
"This article lists firmware updates that were released for Intel-based Macs. They update the firmware that originally shipped from the factory. If your computer does not appear on this list, an update from the factory firmware is not necessary.
If you are unsure whether your computer needs a particular update, simply download and open the update installer. The installer will alert you if the firmware update is already installed or not needed."
and instead of a message telling me of the proper update
"This software is not supported on your system."
So, why would the manual updater not tell me I already have the proper SMC and EFI updates?
What is the reason I get the message that the software I downloaded from Apple Support is not supported on my system?
Is this indicative of a larger problem with my MACBOOK PRO?

    [email protected],
why were you trying to reïnstall the Boot ROM and SMC versions that were already installed on your MacBook Pro?
I agree that  a “not supported” message is certainly less clear than an “already installed” message would have been.

  • HT5219 My Macbook Air (Late 2010) Will not let me install Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adapter software. It says "This software is not supported on your system." What can I do to stop this and install the adapter software?

    Help me

"This software is not supported on YOUR SYSTEM" seems to be a recurring theme in Apple Support site offerings for MacBook Pros and I suspect that Apple didn't really work this issue thoroughly enough to make their hardware updates viable.
You are not alone, Raigbow.  Many MacBook Pro users are finding the Apple Support update packages are not doing what their support instructions indicate should be happening.
I believe this is a bigger issue of Apple not thinking of previously sold units as worthy of solid support.  After the one year warranty, unless you buy more warranty - and I have - the half-hearted but very thorough documentation of non-working "fixes" shows they aren't all that concerned with your happiness as a user.... Only as a potential buyer of the next Apple showcase item.
After that, they will be on to the next big thing.  Kind of like the Japanese model, in which old things are discarded.
But save your work, your data, as the only fix the manufacturer will offer is to wipe your drive and reinstall the original software.
Or use the iCloud to save everything you do and value, since the device you use to access it is short-term.. Don't get too attached to your MAC, because it is terminal in nature.

  • X does not apply to your selection because it is not inherited...

    Hi
I'm trying to design a website using HTML and CSS. I have done the basic layout of the website using Div tags. However, the middle column of the website is showing up differently in Dreamweaver compared to on a browser.
I have researched the problem and found that it is caused by an error occuring on the middle column and the wrapper tag not applying to it: "x does not apply to your selection because it is not inherited. It is applied to an enclosing tag".
The code for my web page is here:

This is my CSS styles code:

This tells me you have unbalanced opening and closing <div> tags somewhere in your document.

  • Windows update does not work after using System recovery disk

I have a Toshiba Satellite c655 with WIndows 7 64 bit Home premium. The hard drive died on it, so I purchased a new hard drive and purchased the appropriate Recovery media from Toshiba. I followed the directions and installed the 3 disks on to the new hard drive. But Windows update does not work I get the following error: Windows update can not currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your PC    No matter what I try, I can not get it to work. And it will not let me install Windows Defender either. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time on this matter.

  • HT5242 When I click software update, this update does not come up. Updater says my software is up to date. Why?

Software update says, Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer at this time.
and this Java update has not been installed on my system. Why would that be?

Because you never installed Java. Lion does not install Java. Only the user can opt to download and install Java separately. If you don't have Java installed then you don't need the update which is why it does not appear.

I purchased simpsons donuts for 9.99, i have my receipt.  I have written the vendor every day for 7 days and of course you cant get through on their phone number.  I was on hold for 4hours and finally hung up.  I used my app card to buy the donuts, yeah stupid right.  Nevertheless, they stole 9.99 and will not refund my money or give me the donuts or respond to my support questions on this for 7 days.  I want this resolved this is bs.

Well, sorry, there is nothing we can do for you here. This is a user to user forum - we are just users like you. You need to contact iTunes to see if they can help you, since the vendor doesn't seem to want to respond. Can't promise iTunes can do anything but it doesn't hurt to try:

  • X does not apply to your selection because it is not inherited. It is applied to an enclosing tag.

I feel like posting screenshots may be the best way to explain this one. I'm building a website. Everything works great except my content DIV, which looks fine in design view, but completely un-aligned in Firefox/Live View. (See figures 1 & 2)
Now, when I comment out the content DIV, everything looks normal. I finally saw that my CSS Navigator had strikethroughs over the position and width/height attributes of the content DIV. I got the cryptic message in the title. Here is my code:
