TS1277 Where is our original iTunes library?

Hi
We recently moved from Australia to US.  Our iTunes library was created in Australia, through the Australian iTunes store.
Now we have bought new music and when we try to psynch iPod, the message ' this iPod is psyched to another iTunes library' and the choices we have are: Erase and Psynch OR Transfer Purchases.  Erase and Psynch will erase everything on iPod and replace with the 20 odd songs purchased in US, so we dont want that!  Do we want 'Transfer Purchases?  The way it is written is confusing.
The other problem is we cant see the extensive music list we purchased in Australia.  The library only shows the music purchased here in US.
To add more confusion, our account still shows as the 'region' of Australia so we dont understand why another library has been created.
We did change Apple ID passwords so that our devices would psynch.  Would that have screwed things up?
We really want our original library back and can go without the 20 odd songs purchased here - if anyone can shed some light we would be grateful!
thank you

Or, if you've been opening alternate libraries and are no longer sure exactly which one is the current library, try my script iTunesXMLPath which tells you where the active XML file is. The active library is the most recently modified ITL file in the same folder.

",the owner sold the ipod without clearing the songs and since the songs were not puchased from the itunes store then i believe i now own the songs"
    Not true at all.
It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium.

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

There is no problem about using one ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match, and another for iCloud and its email and syncing facilities. This way you can all use the same iTunes account but have separate emails and calendars etc.

The only way to do what you want is to log into your wife's iTunes Store account on your iPad. Doing this will lock you out of your account for 90 days.

  • Syncing to itunes from a new computer without having original itunes library

Hi there i am stuck in a tricky situation and would appreciate all the help i can get, first things first i know this is quite a frequently asked question as i have done a bit of searching on the net about it however could not not find anything that totaly matches my problem, i have recently purchased a brand new laptop which runs windows 7 compared to my old desktop which ran XP, i have tried syncing all of my iphone 4s contents onto my new laptop's itunes library including everything not just music or videos and i got the infamous pop up "The iphone is synced with another Itunes library. Do you want to erase this iphone and sync with this Itunes library" the problem is that my original itunes library does not exist no more as my desktop was completly wiped and had XP redownloaded onto it again because it had a virus, which also wiped all of my hard drive so i cant even get everything i backed up off of my phone from it, i have managed to sign in to the itunes store and allowed my laptop to work with itunes, i have also transferred my purchases from my phone to my new itunes library but this only includes my apps and obviously not my contacts and photos and everything, i still get the pop up if i go to sync my apps from my library anyway, is there any way i can delete my original itunes library without it even existing anymore so that i can just start afresh and sync everything i have on my phone now directly to my new itunes library? or do i need to purchase this iphone rip/backup/store software that everyone goes on about or something? to be honest its really annoying my now as i just want to be able to sync everything like how i used to, someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me i would be so greatfull for any good sollutions to this problem, thankyou

i also forgot to right that i really dont want to loose anything from my phone during this process, thanks

  • How do I sync old devices to a new iMac without our old iTunes library? Our orig iMac died with the library on it.

Our old iMac died and we got a new one. The problem is that our entire iTunes library was on the old iMac and all of our iPads and iPhones were synced to the old dead iMac. How do we sync the devices to the new iMac now?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Can't find original iTunes library...

I have two iPods (both Nanos - one 6th generation and one 1st generation) and recently used method three on this page (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495) to create a second iTunes library for my second device. I followed directions to a tee and now can only find the new library. Any advice? Like many of you, I'm sure, my original iTunes library contains tons of paid-for downloaded songs which I would hate to lose. I wish I were more tech-savvy!!! Help!

How did you save this file? iTunes doesn't actually have a save file feature so I am not sure what you did.

  • Can I restore all my original itunes library configuration from a back up?

Can I restore all my original itunes library & playlists' configuration from a back up?
hi...has anyone out there had this happen/done this?
    1. I just got a new PC as my old one finally fried on me.
    2. I installed the latest iTunes again on the new PC and
    3. I have all my itunes songs and the itunes library file backed up and I restored those files to their original locations (these exactly match the same locations on my new PC).
Problem: my original itunes library shows up fine in itunes, but none of the songs can be found when I try to play any of them - 'the original file could not be found' is the error message that comes up.
I have about 5,000 tracks, with many organized into playlists, and I don't want to have to start from scratch organizing this huge library again. I thought backups and the ability to restore files prevents problems like these.
If anyone has a workaround or fix, I would love to hear about it. Thanks.

  • I keep getting exclamation marks on my playlist on itunes, but this is only for the songs downloaded on my phone. I can't play any songs on my phone, only on the original itunes library. Whats going on??

but this is only for the songs downloaded on my phone. I can't play any songs on my phone, only on the original itunes library. Whats going on??

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not inlcuded synced media like apps and music. Thes those iTunes are not restored to the iPod unless they are in the iTunes library.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Our original iTunes account is on a computer with Windows Xp.  My iPad will not sync to that computer.  Is ther any way I can access that iTunes library of music on my iPad2?

My original iTunes account is on a computer operating a Windows Xp system. My iPad2 cannot access that music library. Is there any way the iTunes app on my iPad can access my iTunes music library without using that computer?  I have tried downloading the iTunes 10.6 to the computer, but it won't complete the download.

You say your phone will not sync but then you say, "when it does sync."
Does it sync or not? Did you remember to select music to sync onto your phone before clicking on Apply or Sync?
You do have to have iTunes on your computer in order to sync your phone. And your music must be in iTunes.

  • Where'd my other iTunes library go?

My 10-year-old got an iTouch for Christmas and I needed to set it up on my computer, which was already home to my own iTouch. I read the Apple support topic on how to use multiple iPods on a single computer and thought the best idea would probably be to make a separate library for his stuff. So I did that. Tonight, I tried to hook up my own iPod to the computer for the first time since then and... I can't find where my original library is. Yes, I'm holding "shift" when I open iTunes and choosing the library. The problem is, there seems to be just one library to choose now -- the one with about 30 songs. The one with the 3,000+ other songs seems to have vanished. Or else I can't figure where it is.
Help? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Sigh. This is so completely and fully screwed up and given how screwy it is, I have zero confidence that I will be able to do whatever machinations are going to be required to my computer and both iPods. But if anyone has any suggestions based on the information I'm about to give, I'd appreciate it.
There's indeed a folder called "iTunes library." When I open it, the title at the top says "previous iTunes libraries." There is no current or most recent version of my iTunes libraries.
But wait. That's not all. There's also a folder -- NOT a subfolder -- called "Sons iPod." It, too, contains "iTunes library" -- which now consists of the self-same "previous iTunes libraries" from the other folder. His library is gone, gone, gone -- not a tragedy since it consisted of about 30 songs from my library.
But things appear to me to be super-mega screwed up and I have no earthly idea how to:
    a) re-establish a current iTunes library for my iPod that won't wipe out more of my stuff. Is my library now dubbed "previous" because it was taken from a previous list? Or is that some other problem?
    b) establish some sort of iTunes library somewhere for my son's iPod that won't wipe out his stuff or my stuff or send me into orbit every time I try to sync one or the other iPods? Can I somehow ditch the #3 choice and establish him some other way on my computer? Even though that makes me quake with fear?
Hopefully, this can be solved in a satisfactory and not too time- or headache-intensive way but I am not hopeful. I am wondering if I will deeply regret buying my son an iPod. I can tell you I hate hate hate iTunes right now. Hate it. And I'm not exactly thrilled with Apple saying I could get technical support only if I pay them more f'ing money just so I can try to make their product work right. But I love Katrina.

  • My husband and I each have our own iTunes library on our separate computers. Is there a way for us to share each other's music/playlists?

My husband and I recently got married and we both have our own laptops and iPods with our own individual iTunes library. We would like to share the music we have downloaded over the years. I have read several discussions on the forums and think maybe Home Sharing is the way to go- but if I sign in my iTunes on my husband's computer, will it delete his iTunes library? I'm not very computer savvy.
I tried attaching some songs as e-mails and sending them to him, but it would only allow him to add the songs I retrieved off of actual music CDs to his iTunes library- he could not add songs I had paid for through the store.
If anyone could help us figure out if there is a way to share our music across both libraries/iPods, we would be greatly appreciative!!
    -K
Also, we use Windows, not Macs, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance!!!

if I sign in my iTunes on my husband's computer, will it delete his iTunes library?
LOL!  If Home Sharing deleted the other person's library, then Home Sharing wouldn't have too many users, would it?
Seriously, Home Sharing sounds like a fine solution to the need you express.
However, your question suggests that your library is not backed up, right?  You and your husband should each make a backup of your libraries.

  • Recover original iTunes Library

I have some music in different folders under the iTunes folder that I wanted to check out. I created a new library and pointed to the folder to look at the music. After I was done reviewing the folders I closed iTunes, held down the Option key to open my original library and it said it could not be found. It's as though the original libary file was written over when I created the new libraries from the music in the other folders. I can still see all the music, movies, home videos, etc. in the folder on my hard drive. What is the best way to get my library back? I use ratings extensively and had many playlists so it's important that I check all options before moving too much further on my own. I tried setting Preferences to the folder and consolidating. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

You may just need to hold down shift as you start iTunes and connect to the right library file. Otherwise, if you have damaged your original library in some fashion then this should help restore order...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
