my ipod touch is showing a usb pointing to the itunes logo on the screen and nothing else. It won't switch on beyond that. Please help!
Sounds like your iPod is in restore mode. Connect it to iTunes. iTunes will pop a little message up saying that your iPod is in restore mode and asking you if you want to restore it, click yes. Your iPod will restore to factory settings and you will be given the chance to restore from a backup. You can do this or set it up as a new iPod.
Here is Apple's page on restoring your iPod.

Hope that helps. -
Also do I have to take it to the apple store if it doesn't work when I try again?
You are sure there is not faulty cables or loose ends, right? Because I had this same problem last week when I updated to iOS5 and RecBoot saved the day for me. Is your iTunes uptodate as well.
Also check by using the exit recovery mode, if iTunes is not recognising the iPhone. I am sure you should be able to get past the screen you are on.

I tried updating my iPod 5th gen to iOS 8 but it only shows me a picture of the iTunes logo and a charger at the bottom, I'm not sure what this means or what I need to do. Can someone please help me?
After restoring to factory settings/new iPod you will then have to restore from backup
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store -
today i bought a preoned ipod touch 2nd gen and i restarted and erased everything so i can go on app store and that and now it just shows a picture of a usb pointing at the itunes logo what do i do

Why?
I assume it's the Video app that now won't work at all - if it's the iPad then try the second option below.
Have you tried closing the Videos app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the Videos app 'open' on-screen)double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Videos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
My ipad is frozen with an image of the power plug and the itunes logo. It won't move off this screen even if I restart/reset it.

Trying to get the ipad to open after doing a software update. I only get the itunes logo with an arrow pointing toward it and a lock symbol with a line going down towards the screen button. Any suggestions to get this to open?

i had a third update showing on my iphone 4, i had already updated to the 07 and downloaded the second update to help fix bugs etc. the second update only took a few minutes unlike the first original update that took 4 1/2 hrs! when i saw the third updade i plugged in the phone, connected to wifi and hit update. it showed the apple sign and the bar underneath showing the progress. i left the phone to do its thing and when i went to get it about 1/2 later the phone had a itunes logo and and a picture of a charger showing. it would not do anything. it was frozen. i looked up online how to fix it. it told me to connect to itunes and then to restore. it would make sure that i could keep my contacts and pictures. the restore took 3 hrs, as it started at 78 min which actually took way longer, then when there was only 30 min left it stopped and went back to the "do you want to restore" question and i had to start all over. when it was finally done, i still have the itunes logo and its still frozen..please help!

When I turned on my ipad the itunes logo is on it. I cant get to my home screen. I plugged it to my computer and went to the itunes and it states that the ipad is in recovery mode and that I have to do a restore. I have some important photos on it that I dont want to lose. Is there a way I can restore it without losing the photos. I tried the suggestions on this site but it dont work. My last resort is to restore it if I have to. Also, when Im on the itunes site it does say that i can update on March 15th Can anyone help? Thanks
Then you can select that backup to restore from if you want. If it is an old backup - then you will be restoring the iPad to the condition that it was on that date. You mentioned March 15 in your first post. If your only backup is from last year, then you will lose all of the photos that you have taken since then.

I tried to upgrade to ios4 by plugging my Ipad into Itunes on my desktop. I got an error message as it was downloading. Now my Ipad won't turn on at all. All I get is a pic of the plug and an arrow pointing to the Itunes logo. I tried to reset, but nothing works. When I try to plug the Ipad into my desktop and access Itunes, my Ipad doesn't show up on the Itunes screen.
You need to restore your iPad using recovery mode and the process is covered in this article.
