TS1363 Every time I plug in my Ipod it causes Itunes to lock up. Can't sync it or anything.

When ever I plug in my Ipod to sync with my PC it launches the Itunes program. The mouse turns to a circle showing it is doing something but never finishes. I can't exit the program, select any of the menues or anything. As soon as I reach down and unplug the Ipod Itunes starts responding. If I plug it back in it locks it back up.
I have tried downloading everything several times. It will usually work for the current day but as soon as I plug in a couple of days later it is doing it all over again. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

On my registered iTunes computer, the following message appears every time one plugs in a device and refuses to load said device to be synced: "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started". Each device has been registered onto this account and this computer, and all have worked finely in the past. I am so confused as to why now seemingly without reason, none of our apple devices (one iPod, two iPhones) are allowed to have music and other material downloaded onto them. Also, as a side note, they still are charged by plugging them into the computer, however they do not even show up on the left-hand sidebar in iTunes.
It should also be noted that for my iPhone it does not allow for the new update software to be uploaded; it just says that an error has occurred, nothing more.

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Every time I plug in my ipod an error message 42404

Every time I plug in my ipod an error message 42404. I have un and re installed itunes over 5 time and I have re set the factory setting on my ipod so now I dont have any music on it at all. Help please.

    Hello Rach 27,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to sync your iPod nano.  I recommend following the link in step 2 below for Error 42404:
    "Error 42023" through "Error 42408"
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.

  • Why do extra, empty "on-the-go" playlists appear every time I plug in my iPod? It's really annoying.

I have an iPod Nano 3rd Generation that has never given me any problems, but iTunes is acting ridiculous. Every time I plug my iPod into my computer, one or more "on-the-go" playlists randomly comes into existance. It is always empty, and there have been times I have ended up with 8 or 9 new, empty on-the-gos. iTunes has been acting stupid for a long time now, and this is just about the last straw for me. Anyone know any reasons and/or fixes for this?

Not sure why they are happening, but you might my KillEmptyPlaylists script useful. Have you tried resetting or restoring the device yet?

  • Why does my computer restart every time I plug in my ipod?

I got my ipod touch a few weeks ago, and for the last two weeks, every time I plug it in, my computer restarts. It continues to restart every time it reaches the XP loading bit (where the bars travel across the screen, I don't know the technical name). I put the computer into safe mode and it doesn't restart, but my ipod isnt recognised on itunes so I can't sync it.
Does anyone have this problem, or know how to fix it? Thanks in advance

I've got a first gen. Ipod touch and I had a problem with my computer and had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows! since then when I plug in my touch it restarts my computer.
I'm looking on the forum for a solution before I try anything but to me it looks like we have a similar problem.
The only things different on my system since the last time it worked properly are I updated/reinstalled itunes yesterday and I installed NORTON 360 about a week ago so I think it must have something to do with them!
what browser do you use? I'm using firefox.
If you find a solution can you post an update and I'll do the same, thanks.

  • Why does iTunes shut down every time I plug in my iPod nano?

For the last few months every time I plug my iPod into my mac iTunes automatically shuts down and an error message shows up. I have an iPhone and this problem doesn't happen when I plug it in. I have already taken my iPod to the apple store to see if they can fix it and they restored it but, when I took it home and plugged it in nothing has changed, iTunes still suddenly quits. I am running out of ideas on what the problem could be.

If the Apple Store Genius Bar was able to connect your iPod to a Mac and run a Restore, iTunes did not unexpectedly quit, so there is probably nothing wrong with the iPod.
Since you can connect an iPhone to your Mac and there is no problem, there is probably no hardware problem on the Mac.
That leave the iTunes installation.  So, I would download the latest stand-alone iTunes installer and install iTunes again.  If you use 10.5.8 (as it says in your profile), you should be able to use the latest version available here
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you are not using the latest version of iTunes already, please post back with the version you are using (and the reason you are using an older version).

  • My iTunes crashes every time I plug in my iPod!

I have two rather older Apple products A 160gB classic ipod and a MacBook with OS X 10.5.8. Lately, everytime I plug my iPod in my itunes crashes while attempting to sync. The computer recognizes the iPod ad I am able to safely eject it but I can't get anything updated! I then have to force quit Itunes. Thoughts!

To be of any further assistance,
    What is your iTunes version?
What is the iPod firmware number as shown in the iTunes summary screen?
Have you tried switching to other USB ports?,(don't use any USB Husb or the USB port on the Keyboard.)
    Have a nice day!

  • 80 Gb ipod classic causes itunes 8.02 to freeze during sync

Itunes 8.02 w/ 80Gb Ipod classic. Owned and synced to same mac for a year. No hardware changed.
Initial problem occurred over a week ago when connecting ipod to mac. Error popped up and told me I would have to restore ipod to factory settings. Clicked on restore. ipod rebooted and cleared itself.
Since then I have trouble syncing completely. Ipod and itunes seemed to be syncing properly but slowly and then stopped with progress bar still-came back over an hour later, and progress bar still at same place and sync icon on itunes and ipod still spinning. Tried to cancel, change settings, and/or do anything in itunes and it freezes with spinning cursor. Will not force-quit. I have to manually reset or unplug ipod from connector to resume.
I have been able to load music (9.96Gb) onto ipod by disabling auto-sync, syncing of podcasts(over 300), 1 audiobook, and 1 .pls file-radio station (which never tried to synced to ipod before). All of these items I have had long before the problem. I loaded a new cd into itunes and created a new playlist. Itunes accepted this with no problem. Ipod will not sync the new music when I manually click sync.
*if thread already exists please send link-tried problem solving using other posts, but to no luck
    Thanks

I found someone online who has the same problem, and claims that it can be fixed by reformatting the ipod in windows. I currently have not yet tried this, but I have tried reformatting it through disk utility on my mac pro, but to no avail.
I am planning on trying to reformat it through windows, and I will let you know what the outcome is when I get around to it.
Here is the link I found http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/550903
I hope that this may be useful to all the other people with this problem.

  • Is iTunes 10.3.1 compatible with Windows Vista? Every time I plug in my iPod iTunes pops up a window saying "iTunes cannot connect to this device because an unknown error occurred. Ex8000001."  Any Solutions? Please Help.

It happened once before, but it fixed itself. I read about it online and people say they brought their iPods to Apple and they said its Windows causing the error. Its not one of their error messages.

1st : Install SP1,SP2 and ALL Microsoft Online Updates. There were known issues in Vista with Apple ipods usb syncing feature in Vista, but in the lifetime of Vista it was fixed several times, so update the OS.
2nd : If you have a x64 version of Vista you MUST use itunes also in 64bit, because it installs drivers into the OS. 32bit drivers wont work properly in 64bit OS, even if the application itself will start.
See the "Welcome Center" in Vista for computer details.

  • Every time i plug in my ipod (2nd Gen) to charge it keeps restarting

i've tried to restore it but it still doesn't work

What about the answer to these questions:
    Was the restore successful?
"DId you try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod? If so and still haveing the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order."
You also asked: "Do you think apple will fix it for free because i am thinking of buying a ipod touch 5th gen when it comes out"
A doubt it, a lot of users think about purchasing things. Apple will give you a 10% discount for turning in an old iPod when purchasing a new one.

  • New ipod classic crashes pc every time I plug it in

I've been reading the forums, and know I'm not the only person experiencing this, but here goes...
I bought a brand new 120gb ipod classic and downloaded itunes yesterday. I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 and the latest available download of itunes. I have the latest available drivers for my printer, webcam, and USB 2.0 card.
I have tried plugging the ipod into my USB 2.0 hub, into the computer direct, into different USB ports, and disconnecting all other USB devices, all to no effect.
Every time I plug in the ipod, Windows recognises that the Apple ipod USB Driver has been connected, then my computer restarts. I simply don't know what else to do. I've reset the ipod, what on earth do I try next? I've wasted a whole day, and it's made me absolutely miserable.
    Help, please.

Hmmm... The guy writing that article indicates that the problem is to do with the Apple USB driver. It appears that for him, and many others, Apple's temporary fix of rolling back the USB driver from version 1.35 to version 1.29, has resolved the problem of Blue Screen Of Death.
It hasn't fixed it for me. I've got the XP sp3 and the new iPod Classic 120GB, and I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it from the Apple website several times. I've checked, and my version of iTunes 8 has version 1.29 of the USB driver. I've tried with the iPod in disk mode too. But I keep getting the BSOD, with the message "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL".
However, my old iPod Photo 20GB from 3 years ago works fine!!!
