Is this particular car stereo stated as being compatible with your iPod Mini?  If you aren't sure, check the manufacturer's support site or give the car stereo manufacturer a call.

  • I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod

I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod, neither of which is what I want to do.  How do I get it to shuffle songs in just one playlist?

The shuffle setting in the main menu will shuffle through the entire library as you have found out.
You need to go to settings>shuffle this will toggle through off/song/album. Once you have set this it will stay the same until you change the setting.
Now when you start playing a song in a playlist the iPod will shuffle through that playlist (or if you select your song through artist then it will shuffle through all the songs for that artist etc)

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

When you restore the iPod will also be updated. Make sure that you have iTunes version 11 on the computer.

  • Do I ever need to update my iPod classic software?

Do I ever need to update my iPod Classic software

It seems increasingly unlikely that there will be new firmware released for the iPod classic line, but it is always a possibility. In my opinion the major outstanding issue with the older iPods is the treatment of Artist vs. Album Artist which tends to break up albums on older devices when guest/featured artists are involved (see Grouping tracks into albums) however that could be addressed entirely within iTunes if Apple choose to do so.

  • I bought a new ipod and tried to sync it to my library but it said I needed an update version of itunes.  My mac os 10.5.8 won't let me update.  Do I need to update my OS to leopard then to lion?

I tried to sync a new ipod to my itunes library, but it said I need to update my itunes version.  When I tried to update, it would not let me. Do I need to upgrade my OS system to Leopard then to Lion?

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
10.6.8 is needed for full compatibility with the iPod Touch. You can upgrade to Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements, but it is not needed to use your new iPod.

If the gateway desktop is no longer working, what are you wanting to connect the iPod to?

  • I need to update my iPod without charging it.

I would like to update my songs without actually charging the iPod at the moment. Is that possible?

"My room mate told me that it's bad to charge the iPod if the battery doesn't need it"
That's completely wrong. Charge you battery whenever you feel like it.
See this link (question 8). http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=62018
And anyway, as I said, it's desirable for the battery to get power whilst updating from iTunes.

  • Need OS update but old Itunes/pc is dead

I hope I haven't hijacked another thread..I did have a quick look. I have an iphone 3G and desperately need to upgrade from 3.12 to 4.1. My old PC and original Itunes are long gone (the great crash of 09)and I now use my Wifes laptop. It has Itunes sync'd with her Iphone, however It keeps telling me that If I upgrade to 4.0 or newer it will wipe all files from my phone. I can't sync with wifes laptop as I will lose 14GB of music on my phone and a lot of Apps as well...How do I get an OS upgrade and retain my information? The phone really needs it as it is getting quite glitchy..
    Thanks in advance.

If I were in your shoes, this is what I'd do:
First, create another user account on your wife's computer with admin. privileges, for your use. Then:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes(under the edit menu in Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in Outlook or Windows Address Book or whatever supported applications you use. The entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, NO NOT SYNC or UPDATE at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline. This process of restoring from backup will also update your phone to iOS 4.1.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go, and if something were to go wrong, your data & content are now on your computer & can be easily restored back to your phone.
